So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

Frozen jackets were a godsend for the newborn days with beans and cheese or tuna/sweetcorn etc and a side salad. They’re obviously not as delicious as the real thing but fine with plenty of butter and a wet filling like one of the above.

drspouse · 11/04/2025 19:49

Pastries, we like the pains au raisins at the weekend.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/04/2025 19:49

The M&S one is really finely chopped, much finer than I'd ever be able willing to do by hand. I love it!

I use my mini chopper and almost blend it to mush! And I cheat by buying the ready trimmed celery because we would never get through a whole bunch of the stuff because I otherwise hate celery, I think it's vile.

In summer I don't even bother with the celery for soffrito, I blend a large handful of lovage instead, it tastes exactly the same.

Berries (NOT StRAWBERRIES)
Peppers

I got some amazing frozen whitebait from Aldi about 5 years ago and I've never seen it again. I am a real saddo look for it literally every time I go

gmgnts · 11/04/2025 19:51

Pigs in blankets - Tesco do them all the year round! And mini Yorkshire puddings - delicious!

Ice cream.

Frozen spanakopita from Costco. Deeeeelicious and good enough to serve to guests for lunch with a big Greek salad.

Bramblecrumb · 11/04/2025 19:53

M&S do mini frozen chicken kievs which are just basically delicious garlicky chicken nuggets

Sgtmajormummy · 11/04/2025 19:54

Browsing Iceland’s website is my guilty pleasure, they have Greggs, Cathedral City cheesy dishes, Slimming World, Findus galore and their Finest range often wins awards.

I’ve catered a funeral buffet with their “3 for £10” gammon or turkey roasts served cold and in sandwiches plus an assortment of hot vol-au-vents/sausage rolls and frozen cakes (ordered online and delivered to the relative’s house). They’re quite an ethical company, too.

But my advice is frozen croissants 12 minutes in the air fryer on a lazy Sunday morning. An emergency cheesecake for improvised celebrations. Frozen berries and yes, buttery mashed potatoes.

NOT StRAWBERRIES

I remember Nigella describing frozen strawberries as 'frozen slugs'. She wasn't wrong.

Aldi pistachio, Magnum, ice lolly dupes.

Frozen blueberries and raspberries are a fraction of the cost of fresh. I use them for baking and in sauces, and really can't tell the difference.

Frozen big bags of "natural/untreated haddock" in Iceland, really good quality.

Chocolate Tartuffe by Crosta Mollica. Tesco were selling them for a while and now seem to have stopped 😭. I don't care for choc ice cream, by these are heavenly - excellent vanilla bombe inside dark chocolate ice cream and coated in cocoa powder - not too sweet, ice cream for grown ups - am gutted they’ve stopped selling them.

Waitrose sell them - I bought them on offer and the pistchio, we ate
wth tiny spoons to make them last longer, lovely

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/04/2025 20:04

Frozen blueberries from Aldi. Fresh are so tasteless in comparison and they are delicious. Also frozen hassleback potatoes by McCain. Absolute laziness I know, but they are really nice. I’m also partial to frozen cauli cheese from Aldi. I add extra cheese and it’s quick and easy. Mash is a no brainer.

Joy Kitchen Thai food- I only had coconut curry so far but the flavour is awesome!
Morrisons’s own garlic mushroom and pecorino flatbread.

Forgot about Lidl’s goodies and their world cuisine’s week. Once I bought all food for DC’s birthday party from their Greek week selection. Everything was pretty much hoovered by kids and adults and most asked me “where did you get that”

Shana frozen punjabi samosas only takes 10 mins in the air fryer or 20 mins in the oven.

2025willbemytime · 11/04/2025 20:07

Boring but sliced onions, peppers and cubes of crushed garlic. I've also tried sliced mushrooms but they can't compare to fresh.

IdLikeThingToSpiralIntoControl · 11/04/2025 17:38

I’m sorry, there’s decent frozen mash?
Can you tell me the brand please? I have a cooked portion of cottage pie filling in the freezer I can’t take to work because I can’t be bothered to make mash for one, & don’t eat mash with anything else.

Picard, sold by Ocado.

EveryDayisFriday · 11/04/2025 20:15

Y to cauliflower cheese and frozen mash. I often do a frozen salmon on top of cauliflower cheese in the air fryer as an easy dinner. Frozen mash and air fryer sausages as a quick dinner.

Uricon2 · 11/04/2025 20:16

Waitrose chopped shallots and soffrito mix are great.

Delphiniumandlupins · 11/04/2025 20:17

I was scared off frozen spinach when I discovered a large moth in my Iceland bag! I got compensation and an apology but it put me right off which is a shame because it was really handy.

I am still not persuaded to try frozen mash but agree with berries, prawns, meatballs and mixed veg. Also a fan of Aunt Bessie's UNCOOKED Yorkshire Puddings. Not the cooked ones.

Wackadaywideawake · 11/04/2025 20:21

PumpkinScarf · 11/04/2025 17:43

Veggie base mix - its carrot, celery and onion finely chopped. Saves so much time on busy days. Also frozen stir fry veg is handy to have in and prawns too.

Yes! The frozen veggie base mix from
Morrisons is a game-changer for bolognaise etc

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/04/2025 20:21

I forgot to add, Bannisters bacon and cheese potato skins are lovely.

Cyclebabble · 11/04/2025 20:24

So for me onions (I hate the chopping and frozen works well). I also buy garlic and ginger frozen. I also freeze chilli and then use them pretty much as I would fresh.
