So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

Frozen whole leaf spinach, frozen leeks, frozen sweetcorn, frozen seafood mix, frozen fis for fish pie, frozen garlic, frozen ginger, frozen sofritto, frozen chopped onions. All good.

No to frozen cauliflower, frozen brocoli, frozen peppers. Soggy.

Frozen green beans are passable, but not great.

Smithson85 · 11/04/2025 17:52

Gyozas - and in particular the Ajinomoto chicken ones.

Takes around 5 mins to fry up for lunch and top with spring onion, hoisin sauce and crispy onions 😋

Bags of frozen berries and frozen kale cubes in Aldi also to throw into smoothies, mix in some boiling water to soften, then add milk and honey, delicious

Frozen herbs. Save time and money nd don't go soggy and brown in the fridge.

Lovemydaxie · 11/04/2025 17:55

Frozen parsnips, better than fresh.

kitchenplans · 11/04/2025 17:55

Oh and frozen parsnips are OK. But frozen roast potatoes are little nuggets of disappointment. Frozen yorkies are good (especially the batter ones), frozen stuffing is not.

whyamisolazy · 11/04/2025 17:57

The tiny frozen samosas in the Asian section they are lovely and much nicer than the fresh ones.
You are supposed to fry them but I just bake them in the oven and they come out great

My friend raves about frozen jacket potatoes. Not sure if she buys McCain or just any old supermarket brand ones.

I haven't tried them so no idea if they're as fabulous as she says.

They are awful, really dry! Is this the same friend?! I was recommended them too 🤯

Frozen chapattis and parathas. Just a minute or two in a frying pan and they taste amazing. A million times better than shop bought naan breads, which always seen really dry.

Exactly this! We don't bother with Naan bread anymore. We just buy a massive family pack of frozen Paratha (sold in every major supermarket) and fry one as we need it. Way better than naan, more economical & make a great quick lunch with leftover curry. Or even a snack if you fry one and stick some yogurt/mango on a plate in a pinch!

I haven't bought fresh onion, fresh garlic, fresh blueberries or fresh cherries in years (Morrisons!)

My recent discovery is the diced beef in Morrisons. A couple of bags in the freezer v handy for a quick stew or chilli.

Frozen broccoli, great to make a last minute guilt free pasta for the kids.

MaeDuptag · 11/04/2025 17:59

Frozen avocado (m&s or Sainsbury’s)

Chicken skewers from Iceland.

diced onions.

garlic.

chilli

aldi do frozen hash browns similar to McDonald’s…

Agreed. Lidl does them too. Stick them in the air fryer and they're exactly the same!

nahthatsnotforme · 11/04/2025 18:00

Have added paratha to my list…

Iceland used to do good croissants

Sparklehead · 11/04/2025 18:05

Frozen fruit from Aldi is great! I love the cherries, mango, blueberries and breakfast topper. Also, frozen bao buns and gyoza which I get from an Asian supermarket.

glittereyelash · 11/04/2025 18:07

I love most of the frozen veg, cauliflour cheese, corn on the cob, brocolli, broad beans, chopped chilli. Also love spicy bean burgers, dumplings, breakfast topper fruit, croissants and bread rolls. I also make and freeze loads of bits for my son: fish fingers, goujons, jambons, pizzas, sausage rolls, sourdough. His diet is really limited so I try and make as much of it myself as I can.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 11/04/2025 18:08

Frozen pineapple pieces - I always either cut a pineapple when it's unripe or overripe with brown bits. Frozen is perfectly ripe and I love a homemade ham and pineapple pizza (sorry) so I can just defrost a few pieces at a time.

CowboyJoanna · 11/04/2025 18:09

We live off McCain chips Grin

GooseAttack · 11/04/2025 17:52

Itsu frozen gyoza are really good - usually on offer every now and then so I stock up. Don’t follow the steaming option, that makes them soggy, just shallow fry.

Best way is to steam and shallow fry at the same time (the proper way to do it)

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/04/2025 18:11

YY to frozen mash.

Also chopped onion, especially handy as its just me and DD now so a lot of fresh onion ends up wasted.

When the kids were little I bought bags of chopped butternut squash, steamed it and then blended to stir into bolognaise etc. They werent veg avoiders but I thought it wouldnt do any harm.

sHREDDIES19 · 11/04/2025 18:13

Sorry if already been mentioned but I add frozen spinach to a lot of my meals like butter beans and kidney bean chilli and also red lentil curries. Absolutely stunning and a bag lasts ages!

LushLemonTart · 11/04/2025 18:13

Where do you get frozen soffrito?

GooseAttack · 11/04/2025 18:15

Flutterbyby · 11/04/2025 18:11

I did try that once and couldn’t get the hang of it. Maybe I need to try again.

Drowninginprobate · 11/04/2025 18:16

I used to make huge batch cooked pot of mash for DH, then use an ice cream scoop to put dollops on a baking tray and open froze, then popped them into a zippy bag, whipped out one or two or more as needed and reheated in the microwave. (I’d do this alongside cooking a stir fry or something where I was in the kitchen a while but had time to make it alongside another meal).

lazymum99 · 11/04/2025 18:17

Anything made by Picard. Superb frozen food. Especially good ratatouille.

Occasionalcyclist · 11/04/2025 18:18

Frozen spinach - in chunks so I add a few chunks to curries near the end of cooking time when spinach is in the recipe
Frozen ginger - in the World Food freezer section, comes crushed in ice-cube-sized chunks. Again really handy for curries and soups.
Co-op have frozen pastel de nata. Yum.
Agree about frozen parathas, so delicious.
Frozen hasselback potatoes were quite nice last Christmas (Lidl deluxe range)
