So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

My friend raves about frozen jacket potatoes. Not sure if she buys McCain or just any old supermarket brand ones.

I haven't tried them so no idea if they're as fabulous as she says.

I’m sorry, there’s decent frozen mash?
Can you tell me the brand please? I have a cooked portion of cottage pie filling in the freezer I can’t take to work because I can’t be bothered to make mash for one, & don’t eat mash with anything else.

nahthatsnotforme · 11/04/2025 17:39

@IdLikeThingToSpiralIntoControltheyre all good I believe. I had tescos and it’s SO much nicer than the fresh stuff (and cheaper) and as good if not better than homemade.

Frozen seafood mix. Great for risotto and pasta, I get mine from Lidl

Unijourney · 11/04/2025 17:41

Onions & red peppers- game changer as I used to dread chopping onions due to sore eyes.

CoastalCalm · 11/04/2025 17:41

The Aldi ones are great. I have them for lunch all the time

chilli

aldi do frozen hash browns similar to McDonald’s…

PumpkinScarf · 11/04/2025 17:43

Veggie base mix - its carrot, celery and onion finely chopped. Saves so much time on busy days. Also frozen stir fry veg is handy to have in and prawns too.

TooManyRabbitsAndNotEnoughChickens · 11/04/2025 17:44

Frozen chapattis and parathas. Just a minute or two in a frying pan and they taste amazing. A million times better than shop bought naan breads, which always seen really dry.

Aussiegold · 11/04/2025 17:44

Garlic, ginger, croissants, pain au chocolat, Swedish meatballs......

Drowninginprobate · 11/04/2025 17:45

Sainsbury’s frozen fruits, mango, raspberries, nectarines, pop a handful of each into a tub to defrost in the fridge and then add some canned mandarins, take a portion every night and add fresh grapes, kiwi, apple etc for an economic fruit salad, I was binning so much fresh fruit this has helped me save some money

VexedofVirginiaWater · 11/04/2025 17:46

I freeze my own baked potatoes - cook a load while the oven is on for doing a few, wrap them in foil and Bob's your uncle (Fanny's your aunt).

Cheepcheepcheep · 11/04/2025 17:46

A bag of frozen cauliflower cheese and some quickly fried bacon lardons and I am a very happy woman.

ohyesido · 11/04/2025 17:47

Birds Eye ultimate chicken fillet burgers are the bomb. Sainsbury’s hash browns.

my DS swears by Iceland salt and pepper chicken but I haven’t dared try them yet

Yes we recently bought a pack of frozen parathas - they are so handy to have in, cook so quickly and taste great!

@CheepcheepcheepI saw the cauli cheese and wondered what it would be like. Do you have to oven cook?

Frozen mince! It comes in little tiny pieces so
you Don’t have to cut it and or seperate it like fresh mince, it gives a really good consistency!

Yep, takes a while but it’s a bung it in the oven and stick on a box set job. My go to when DH is away for a lazy evening.

minnienono · 11/04/2025 17:50

Frozen seafood mix (can cook from frozen) and prawns of course, frozen pies are often better than refrigerated ready made pies (Lidl deluxe ones are great with the aforementioned frozen mash!) I always have frozen cauliflower cheese too, just like other things, home made is better but when time is short it is better than most other frozen veg. Frozen garlic and frozen ginger cubes (world foods aisle) are game changers as far as speed goes

Elle771 · 11/04/2025 17:50

Frozen cauliflower cheese for easy addition to roast dinner

GooseAttack · 11/04/2025 17:52

Itsu frozen gyoza are really good - usually on offer every now and then so I stock up. Don’t follow the steaming option, that makes them soggy, just shallow fry.
