What other brilliant frozen food have I missed?

So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

Frozen cherries. Heat up in pan for a few mins, don’t need sugar. Add to Greek yogurt. Elite breakfast.

Or add to overnight oats so they defrost overnight in the fridge.

NoMoreLifts · 11/04/2025 19:24

Frozen baby broad beans. Have to peel them but lovely w pasta or w toast and marmite as quick wfh lunch.

I've never tried a nice frozen mash. Have tried a few but they weren't good. Are some better than others?

I tend to avoid freezer food as it's usually full of pointless preservatives and fillers but Aldi do individual portions of creamy pesto prawns that are delicious over linguine and the ingredients are basic.

Usually have less preservatives as they don’t need it being frozen.

I think the majority of frozen veg is fine to cook with but I wouldn’t choose to eat it on its own. Agree that frozen soffrito and frozen casserole veg makes a great base for a soup. I find that frozen butternut squash is best if you roast it first.
M&S frozen prawns are fab for throwing in a quick stir fry or pasta dish.

Frozen berries. Add to gin instead of ice

Very clever and getting your vitamin C in at the same time 😃

Cyclingmummy1 · 11/04/2025 19:26

Mango and spinach.

Usually have less preservatives as they don’t need it being frozen.

Not when it's Birds Eye etc.

Most convenience foods are full of shite.

Frozen grapes and mango

I buy tinned mango and then freeze into cubes myself as you can get better quality mango that way (Alphonso, Kesar)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/04/2025 19:30

I don't know if you've ever seen frozen peas? Yes, I know, peas! Can you believe it, PEAS!

But according to, I think, Encyclopedia Britanica 'frozen peas are as sweet as the moment when the pod went pop'.

Good enough for me. (I have chucked the tinned peas out, now, of course.)

SoOxon · 11/04/2025 19:31

what a great thread!
I’m making notes
VolauVent cases! JusRol, bought in Morrisons,

Baby carrots, tiny sweet juicy, Country mix veg, and lifechanging Magnums! ha ha

OP - I think you’re gonna need a bigger freezer

PonkyPonky · 11/04/2025 19:33

I know it’s already been said but frozen onions are the best thing in the supermarket. You can have the right amount with no waste, no more crying whilst cooking. Just brilliant.

CoconutSky · 11/04/2025 19:33

Lidl frozen rotisserie style chicken wings as well on my list. They are lovely

FizzingAda · 11/04/2025 19:34

Chocolate Tartuffe by Crosta Mollica. Tesco were selling them for a while and now seem to have stopped 😭. I don't care for choc ice cream, by these are heavenly - excellent vanilla bombe inside dark chocolate ice cream and coated in cocoa powder - not too sweet, ice cream for grown ups - am gutted they’ve stopped selling them.

@CheepcheepcheepI saw the cauli cheese and wondered what it would be like. Do you have to oven cook?

We had some Asda frozen cauliflower cheese on holiday once and we all thought it was disgusting. Not a patch on homemade

Soubriquet · 11/04/2025 19:35

We love a McCain frozen jacket potato here

Don’t get me wrong, freshly made is always 100% better, but in a pinch it’s so easy. In the microwave, and then 5 mins in the air fryer and it’s done. Lovely and crispy

MoominMai · 11/04/2025 19:38

IdLikeThingToSpiralIntoControl · 11/04/2025 17:38

I’m sorry, there’s decent frozen mash?
Can you tell me the brand please? I have a cooked portion of cottage pie filling in the freezer I can’t take to work because I can’t be bothered to make mash for one, & don’t eat mash with anything else.

Aunt Bessie’s frozen mash I find is the best in terms of ingredients and taste. Only potatoes, milk, butter, salt n pepper.

Snorlaxo · 11/04/2025 19:39

Frozen croissants and pain au chocolat

Frozen doner meat

saraclara · 11/04/2025 19:39

I live alone, and the McCain jacket potatoes are wonderful for me. Much better than I expected and only a few minutes in the microwave.

Also frozen mixed berries are really good, and frozen raspberries on their own are great. A minute in the microwave for a single portion, pour over a Tesco Finest American pancake, splodge of greek yogurt on top. Heathy heaven.

Rizzla · 11/04/2025 19:42

Frozen pastries! Almond croissants, pain au chocolat, cinnamon swirls… they’re amazing straight from the oven

sabbii · 11/04/2025 19:42

Frozen global and dumplings, not too shabby

Wilfrida1 · 11/04/2025 19:42

Pippinsdiary · 11/04/2025 18:48

I buy them occasionally but the potato is powdery. They are weird

Aldi ones are lovely, but I can go months and they don’t have them in. McCain ones went in the bin, they were vile.

mydogisthebest · 11/04/2025 19:42

PickAChew · 11/04/2025 19:02

Most of them are no more convenient than cooking them from scratch and end up so tough but the Bannister ones are pre-cooked and delicious.

I thought they were awful. I ate 1 and then threw the rest away. I never throw food away usually as I hate food waste but no way was I going to eat the rest of the bag

1AnotherOne · 11/04/2025 19:45

Jacket potatoes - follow microwave instructions then rub with oil and air fry for 8 minutes

paratha for sure. always have in the freezer.

ditto soffrito mix and gyoza

also when I remember frozen pastries like croissants or Portuguese custard tarts

Fi970 · 11/04/2025 19:46

Pret frozen croissants with chocolate and their other pastries are a nice treat and a fraction of the price of buying a chewy one baked hours ago in the shop. Makes the house smell amazing too.
