What other brilliant frozen food have I missed?

nahthatsnotforme · 11/04/2025 17:33

So the recent thread resoundingly in favour of frozen mash made me buy some… and yes Mumsnet is quite correct.. totally converted. Which got be wondering what else have I missed?
My frozen foods are just the usual chips, peas and fishfingers. What other game changers are out there?

Wtaf, Mumsnet discover frozen food isn't poison ©2025

What are you on.

Single50something · 12/04/2025 18:39

Agree on the frozen veg ans fruits. Also really like the birds eye steam fresh pasta with peas and brocoli:) perfect in a rush tea for one :)

Well, obviously, but this thread wasn't started to break the news to anyone that frozen peas exist, was it?!

Everyone knows frozen fruits and veg exist!

Ah - but do they realize that not all convenience foods are full of additives and preservatives? (Which is what my point was - obviously.)

Frozen, pre chopped garlic and onions have been a life changing investment for us! Saves so much time and effort, no smelly fingers and no having to constantly rebuy fresh produce when they inevitably go off.

Islandgirl68 · 12/04/2025 19:03

Morrisons own mozzarella sticks, mccain french fires, last year Aldi did biscoff ice creams, frozen meatballs in Morrisons, not own brand.

Julia001 · 12/04/2025 19:07

I use Sainsbury’s frozen mash. You just season to taste and it’s fab

Blueberrypot · 12/04/2025 19:11

mydogisthebest · 11/04/2025 19:42

I thought they were awful. I ate 1 and then threw the rest away. I never throw food away usually as I hate food waste but no way was I going to eat the rest of the bag

You can give opened frozen away on Olio. I gave away quorn dinosaurs.

LushLemonTart · 11/04/2025 18:13

Where do you get frozen soffrito?

Ocado - it’s fab , but every now and again I get all
the stuff ff and make about 5kg of my own but chopping the carrots are a complete ballache

Agree with pps. Find doing my own much nicer, and not anymore effort. We couldn't eat the pre frozen, I'm all for freezing, but not the jacket pots.

Edited to include @mydogisthebest

Love these

whats The brand please?

Suzypoo10 · 12/04/2025 19:39

To take your frozen mash up a notch, stir in some double cream and black pepper.

MrsChumleyWarner · 12/04/2025 19:48

Iceland's southern fried potato wedges.

Frozen parsnips, better than fresh.

I totally agree. Aunt Bessie's honey parsnips are so good I'll never buy fresh to roast again. Even my mum buys them now & she cooks everything else from scratch.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 12/04/2025 20:20

I love those honey parsnips they get so crispy I have them in place of potatoes which as a PP said are always dry

Crosta and mollica pizza

Yes, this and M&S quiche Lorraine are our stand by suppers.

Croissants

I’ve only just recently started buying frozen croissants and probably won’t go back to fresh. Not because they’re better but they last longer than a fresh pack in our house.

Birds Eye ultimate chicken fillet burgers are the bomb. Sainsbury’s hash browns.

my DS swears by Iceland salt and pepper chicken but I haven’t dared try them yet

@ohyesido have you had the BE ultimate chicken fillet burgers recently? They've completely changed the recipe for the worse. Unrecognisable from what they were. Gutted!

Daftypants · 12/04/2025 20:32

Frozen chopped garlic , ginger , chilli , coriander and parsley are all good standby items .
Also having a bag of frozen chopped onions 🧅 is very handy and stops 😭
Frozen blueberries 🫐 are great too , very handy for baking , adding them to yogurt or to porridge for breakfast.
My freezer usually has all those plus frozen chips , jacket potatoes, M&S breaded haddock , peas , spinach

Shmee1988 · 12/04/2025 20:32

Iceland do frozen bags of chicken and pepper rice. Chuck in some chorizo, some smoked paprika and some tinned tomatoes and it's like paella. So yummy and just £1 per bag and feeds 2 adults.

Sayithowiseeit · 12/04/2025 20:35

Frozen spinach, it comes in squashed blocks. I bought it for feta and spinach bake but now I chuck it in nearly everything! Especially anything with pasta

Yes we do too!! We have gotten them for years. We tried fresh one Christmas, and were really disappointed!

These M&S maple butter carrots are totally delicious .. take a little while in the oven but are perfect for roasts/sides..
also I second frozen onion for cooking - total game changer- no crying, no smelly boards!

Chantenay Carrots with Maple Butter | M&S

Ready-to-roast tender Chantenay carrots tumbled in a sticky, sweet and savoury maple butter, these make the ultimate fuss-free but oh-so-delicious side.

Waitrose rosti - I prefer them to hash browns now (unless it’s Premier Inn hash browns)
