@JamesWebbSpaceTelescope agree, also it is American!

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 12/04/2025 10:29

@ilovecardigans
If this helps they sell paratha in Asda it’s in a seperate freezer with all the Asian goodies it’s the brand ‘shana’

You can get peeled frozen broad beans in Asian food shops!

This is a revelation! Is there any particular name to look out for?

I don’t get posts like this. What is the point of putting the OP’s comment into AI and generating an answer.

If the OP wanted to ask ChatGPT she could have done that herself. She wanted real life recommendation from real people.

And we don’t have Trader Joe’s in the UK as far as I’m aware.

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 12/04/2025 11:21

@LillyPJ 🤣 yes that’s so true Asda call it vegetable mix and to the PP it is a very small dice

Yes - the posh ones call it soffrito. Normal ones use English.

It’s actually really easy to buy a couple of carrots, onions, and celery and then dice and bag it up and freeze it. Probably a lot cheaper as when I’ve bought it in Waitrose for a lasagna base, it was about £2 for one meal.

Yes. I've never actually bought any pre-chopped stuff, frozen or otherwise. I find chopping by hand very therapeutic!

Iceland frozen long grain rice

nahthatsnotforme · 12/04/2025 13:13

Well thank you everyone, I’ve made a list and am actually looking forward to my weekly shop and a good look at the freezer isle.. one I usually don’t pay much attention to.

Such a great post, OP. Thank you … such good ideas from everyone.

Peasinthefreezer · 12/04/2025 17:14

I really like M&S frozen chicken nuggets, much nicer than any others I tried.

Also Birds Eye mini hash browns (tater tots) - so good!

agree with others Crosta & Mollica pizzas, Picard pastries, any frozen berries, edamame and blocks of frozen ginger.

I tried some frozen cauliflower cheese from M&S - disgusting.

Excited to try Parathas and will try some frozen mash!

LillyPJ · 12/04/2025 06:34

Frozen doesn't necessarily mean what you're thinking of as convenience food - but frozen vegetables and fruit ARE very convenient!

Well, obviously, but this thread wasn't started to break the news to anyone that frozen peas exist, was it?!

Everyone knows frozen fruits and veg exist!

I’m sorry, there’s decent frozen mash?
Can you tell me the brand please? I have a cooked portion of cottage pie filling in the freezer I can’t take to work because I can’t be bothered to make mash for one, & don’t eat mash with anything else.

I love Farm Foods own! Tried Aunt Bessies and it's not a patch on FF!

Laurmolonlabe · 12/04/2025 17:47

Frozen mixed veg, cheaper than fresh just as nutritious, no prep and you can use as little or as much as you want- I get the Sainsbury's own 99p for a kilo.

I haven't got any at the moment and didn't make a note. But if you Google there seem to be lots of brands - Mediterranean as well as Asian. I got them at a big Asian supermarket in Leeds.

1AnotherOne · 12/04/2025 17:51

Back again to add some more!

diggers crispy chicken strips are amazing - 10 mins in air fryer then stir through sweet and sour sauce. Easy quick dinner.

aunt Bessie’s ready made dumplings. I just chuck them in the slow cooker for the last 45 minutes.

frozen cherries on top of porridge

Kjpt140v · 12/04/2025 18:12

Ice-cream, lollies.

honeyrider · 12/04/2025 18:14

I love this, game changer especially as I can cook the entire packet or just a portion in the microwave, €1.49

Especially since Trader Joe's isn't available in the UK. As usual chat GPT doesn't live in the real world.

Frozen sweetcorn kernels from M&S.
Taste completely different to the tinned version!
