Poppadom etiquette

I am curious as to the etiquette of sharing poppadoms in a group meal.

a) Do you see a pile and break a piece off the top one and then others do the same

b) karate chop through all the poppadoms then take pieces when you want

c) take a whole poppadom and break into pieces on your own side plate so you have a pile of poppadom

I am option A and was flabbergasted at seeing C on Saturday.

C stops greedy people taking more than their fair share!

Condensedmilkdrinker · 31/03/2025 17:57

C 🤷‍♀️🤔

Sirzy · 31/03/2025 17:57

Order x amount each and then take one at a time onto side plate

C is more hygienic

viques · 31/03/2025 17:57

C

think of it like bread from the bread basket in a different restaurant. You take your bread and put it on your side plate, that is then your bread, you don’t break all the bread into little bits and take a little piece at a time.

SoftPillow · 31/03/2025 17:58

B or C for us

OrigamiOwls · 31/03/2025 17:58

Absolutely C

Sevenamcoffee · 31/03/2025 17:59

C but if I was with someone who did A or B first I would mirror them to be polite.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 31/03/2025 17:59

As long as there's enough for everyone it would be c) for me, I don't want to share food with people that may not have washed their hands

Christmasbear1 · 31/03/2025 17:59

C

Iknowaboutpopular · 31/03/2025 18:00

My husband and I are B we fight each other for them

In polite company, definitely C.

IberianBird · 31/03/2025 18:00

C.
Why were you flabbergasted?

RaininSummer · 31/03/2025 18:00

I would find B very odd. A would lead to fast eaters pinching my share

ThePoshUns · 31/03/2025 18:01

C here as well

JohnTheRevelator · 31/03/2025 18:01

C.

MagicalMystical · 31/03/2025 18:01

I mean, I’m giving the side eye to the arsehole who’s unilaterally deciding to karate chop the whole pile. But aside from that, I think I’m option d - watching what everyone else does and then doing the same (and hoping people go option c because I want a whole one ideally 10 to myself)

commutemovequeries · 31/03/2025 18:01

I’m C but B reminded me of Tim Key and ‘shall I be mother?’ (For for any Off Menu fans)

ErrolTheDragon · 31/03/2025 18:01

c, assuming there’s one poppadom per person why wouldn’t you? If you don’t want a whole one then maybe wait till everyone else has taken theirs and break off as much as you want of the last one

BogRollBOGOF · 31/03/2025 18:02

There should be enough ordered to do C.
B is weird.
A, I'd only do if there was a non-matching number to share them out more evenly.

TheNightingalesStarling · 31/03/2025 18:02

C.

I don't like sharing food as I get worried about taking too much etc so often don't eat much.

(I'm ok with buffets and close family)

threenaancurrywhore · 31/03/2025 18:02

Of course it’s C. I witnessed B once and the whole table did this: 😱

A is bloody weird. Why are you splitting up a giant crisp? Why are you touching the food? C risks the least contamination; A is just grubby. B is sociopathic. You’re poppawrong.

CurlsLDN · 31/03/2025 18:02

Definitely C! I’ve heard of B but glad to have never dined with a poppadum puncher.

never heard of anyone doing A, and would feel a bit urgh about it for reasons others have said

PersephonePitstop · 31/03/2025 18:02

Anything other than C is minging.

TheMasterplan23 · 31/03/2025 18:03

C

That way everyone gets the same amount and you don’t have other people’s potentially grubby hands touching numerous bits of poppadom.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 31/03/2025 18:03

Option C

I don't understand why you were flabbergasted?

I wouldn't eat part of a poppadom that somebody else had touched
