Poppadom etiquette

I am curious as to the etiquette of sharing poppadoms in a group meal.

a) Do you see a pile and break a piece off the top one and then others do the same

b) karate chop through all the poppadoms then take pieces when you want

c) take a whole poppadom and break into pieces on your own side plate so you have a pile of poppadom

I am option A and was flabbergasted at seeing C on Saturday.

C. I want my own not what some CF or greedy, thoughtless person deigns to leave. Also my own pickles/chutney

There is nothing more satisfying than karate chopping a pile of poppadoms 😁

As long as they are yours.

MorrisonsBitch · 31/03/2025 18:18

C… I have never been to a restaurant where you don't order the amount you want? I have 1, DH has 2 so thats what we take?
Even at home with a takeaway we have what we have ordered?
who on earth breaks bits off or smashes them up, just wrong!

I'll just take a whole one, but I won't eat anymore after that anyway as an appetiser.

DonaldMacRonald · 31/03/2025 18:20

C. Otherwise some people will keep breaking bits off and scoff way more then their fair share. At least with C, everyone has their own one poppadom.

Boxfreshrussell · 31/03/2025 18:20

C, I don’t want anyone else touching my food.

Sharing???

I heard about this. A concept I am not familiar with when it comes to my curry.

CheesyRaver · 31/03/2025 18:20

C, unless it's close family I wouldn't want eat one that someone else has touched

Bailamosse · 31/03/2025 18:21

C, you order one (at least!) per person

Wildywondrous · 31/03/2025 18:22

C.
There's usually a poppadom each unless you order extra so you take one and make a little pizza with the mint sauce, chutney and chopped salad.

I've never seen anyone do A or B.

I think if someone did A I would take the full one from below it.

tedibear · 31/03/2025 18:22

C as everyone breaking off a bit and all touching them is gross. I’d go along with it though if that’s what was started but I’d be thinking wtf! Just order enough for everyone to have one each.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 31/03/2025 18:24

C

TheSixQuarks · 31/03/2025 18:24

Curious. For the people that don’t want eat something that someone else has touched, what happens when the naan comes along? Do you order one of those each too?

Very glad I trust my friends are hygienic.

AgnesX · 31/03/2025 18:25

Depends on who I'm sharing with.... anyone that's not family and it's C.

Naan shared within couples. I’d order a single chaoati anyway.

CaffeineNChaos · 31/03/2025 18:26

Option C!

Naan shared if not hungry with close family by cutting in two. Individual if hungry. Wouldn't share with anyone else Envy

ApolloandDaphne · 31/03/2025 18:28

Never ever C here. A or B every time. I love to karate chop poppadoms.

SparrowFeet · 31/03/2025 18:28

I grew up being A but DH family is C which I have to remember every time we go for a curry.
Popadoms are like sharing nachos- you don't count them out!

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 31/03/2025 18:29

Pedallleur · 31/03/2025 18:17

As long as they are yours.

Where is the fun in that!

The bigger the pile, the more fun with the karate moves! Gotta negotiate as to who gets to karate chop the food of course, as its too much fun but only needs one well placed chop. Everyone then has to be quick to try to get the biggest pieces.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/03/2025 18:29

Also tear off bits of naan. Fight to the death for the nubbly end bit. I suspect me and my friends/family are rather uncouth.

Simonjt · 31/03/2025 18:30

You should only ever touch food that you yourself are going to eat, touching food and expecting someone else to then eat it is very poor manners.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 31/03/2025 18:30

The evening before a work conference, the team went out for a curry. The manager just ordered a load of different curries to share instead of letting people order individually.

I was horrified.

I think it’s pretty clear I’m a C.

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 31/03/2025 18:31

C every time, never known anyone do anything different!

LucyIsImmoral · 31/03/2025 18:31

I thought everyone did B. Maybe my friends are weird.
