They are my Pointless watching glasses. Capital letter optional.

I found them under my Pointless watching chair!

Excellent 🤓

Do what you like. I have enough respect for my fellow posters in this thread to stay off the subject. It's not about protecting the "feelings of genderists" but about respecting that we have different views and it's too emotive to discuss here.

Same. Everyone is free to post as they like although it would be courteous in a long running thread to observe its culture. Equally everyone is free to ignore any posts about subjects it’s been agreed not to discuss.

Just had a look at the Guardian website. Not a peep about transgender protesters. Just like on here. Head in the sand.

The protests were reported in the Guardian. 2 days ago. When they were actually taking place. Plenty of reporting on the ruling itself too. So I'm not sure what your point is here.

There are plenty of ongoing protests. Including a particularly nasty toilet protest. Were there any opinion pieces about that?

pointythings · 21/04/2025 21:47

There's also other news. This ruling is one piece of news in a world where big things are happening daily. The UK's TRAs are really not that important.

On this thread it's absolutely not head in the sand. I am very aware that I have different views from some long-standing posters on here. However I have a lot of respect for them and I absolutely don't want it to be a subject that divides us so I would rather keep it to elsewhere. It's called respect, not head in the sand.

Do you have a link to the toilet protest you mean, please?

Why the need to patrol these threads?

MN is a big space.
There is no limit on threads you can start. Plenty of space to discuss almost any topic you like and lots of willing posters.

And yet some lurk here to complain about the content of specifically these threads, trying to direct posters to discuss their chosen topic.

the suggestion seems to be that the existence of these threads somehow limits their opportunities to have a discussion - which is obviously nonsense.

its weird.

I suspect people are afraid they're missing out if they're not in here trying to set an agenda.

derxa · 21/04/2025 22:30

People can post anything they want within guidelines on any thread.

cardibach · 21/04/2025 22:30

I’m concerned it’s getting very close to the end of the thread and @DuncinToffee has logged off. I feel way too much of a newbie here to start a new thread so can someone else? My nerves can’t stand it!

And everyone else can ignore it if they like.

BIossomtoes · 21/04/2025 22:35

I’ll do it.

MissMarplesNiece · 21/04/2025 22:35

I had a reply from my MP to a letter I wrote to him about the proposed changes to PIP. He didn't say so directly but I think he's going to abstain when the changes are voted on. I do see abstention as a bit of a cowards way out, tbh, and would rather he had a bit of backbone and voted against the cuts.

Zonder · 21/04/2025 22:47

Thank you @Blossomtoes I was hoping you would do it!

BIossomtoes · 21/04/2025 22:48

My pleasure. ☺️

It’s not weird at all.

These threads are, bar cats and the occasional dog, about politics. And they’re very obviously frequented by people who support Labour or Labour policies. No, not every policy or every politician. But support for Labour and the left in one shade or another is the core of your discussions. Which inevitably brings criticism and condemnation of others, including the Tory party.

Voices like mine come along to make opposing arguments and to point out Labour’s dishonesty, hypocrisy and stupidity. And to point out that posters on here are very selective politically about what matters.

If you want to be regulars on what is essentially a pro-Labour series of threads on an open, public platform you must expect others to disagree with you. This is not a WhatsApp group.

Zonder · 21/04/2025 23:06

"And they’re very obviously frequented by people who support Labour or Labour policies."

You're still saying that? 😂😂

RafaistheKingofClay · 21/04/2025 23:08

I don’t think we’ve had any issues pointing out Labour’s hypocrisy so far.

Zonder · 21/04/2025 23:14

Exactly @RafaistheKingofClay

Notonthestairs · 21/04/2025 23:18

It’s a chat group that seems to be under constant monitoring. As if contributors need to provide news commentary to the standards set by self selected group of lurkers who have their own political biases.

I don’t see that on other threads. I certainly don’t lurk elsewhere and then pop up solely to tell them where they are MNing wrongly.

There is also a double standard in complaining about a lack of commentary on one topic when the poster complaining has remained silent on any number of other topics that have been raised.

Zonder · 21/04/2025 23:20

"to tell them where they are MNing wrongly"

That's a great phrase - exactly what it seems some people are trying to do! And you're right, it doesn't seem to happen on other threads. Thank goodness we have people popping on here to tell us how to MN rightly 😂

Zonder · 21/04/2025 23:21

Let's hope we don't all keep MNing wrongly on the new thread!
