Tesla cars: are you getting rid of yours?

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:16

Disclaimer: I can't afford a Tesla anyway!

However, I do know of several very decent people who own Tesla cars. They paid a lot for them and know that they can only sell them at a loss. It doesn't seem fair really.

If you have one, what are your future plans with it?

On that note, what will happen to the cars next do you think? Will the company go bust?

Me and DH own a small used car dealership. We sell a lot of EVs. Up to 3 months ago Tesla’s would be in and out the door within 2 weeks, usually always bought on finance too. Personally I wouldn’t own one based on the build quality. However they WERE popular. We now have 7 in stock with not a single enquiry and we can’t sell them. So clearly people aren’t buying them at the moment and the ones we have are ridiculously well priced.

Probably an obvious answer but do you think you will just stop buying second hand ones /expect a much lower price now if you do buy them?

Is there any reason you aren't dropping the price drastically of the ones you do have? Are you hoping Tesla can turn their PR around?

I do actually feel for owners and businesses caught out by the sudden plummet in value

We will hold fast at the moment and see what happens. We can’t afford to just write them down by thousands of pounds. Things are tough enough at the moment. Personally I think the prices will drop so much that people will start to realise how cheap they can own one for (the tech is a massive gimmick and a draw for a lot of people) and so some will start selling. Then when they start shifting and demand increases slightly because people are buying them again the prices should hopefully go back up. But we will see.

I can understand you taking that approach, it can't be easy to figure out quite what will happen next!

I hope those getting rid are not shopping at Amazon or temu/ shein or anywhere apart from the ethical brands really! Privileged virtue signalling! I couldn’t afford a Tesla and if I had one, I’m certain I couldn’t afford to sell it at a loss and buy another car!!

Not used Amazon in years and wouldn't touch Temu or Shein with a bargepole. Don't buy random shite anyway.

No I absolutely love my Tesla. We were planning on getting another as it has the longest range and we drive a lot but not sure if we can really now

Plenty of cars with a longer range and better tech than Tesla now, and I say that as an early adopter of the EV with a model S 10 years. My last Tesla, a Model 3 LR would just about do 260 miles at UK motorway speeds in the real world. My current BMW will easily do 300, and the latest Audis and Mercs 10% more than that. With the added advantage that the German cars don’t phantom brake and have working lights and wipers 😂😂

If anyone is interested in a much better built, faster and sexier EV we have just bought an i4 M50 it’s absolutely awesome! About 250 miles if you drive like Miss Daisy, 0-60 3.8 seconds

That’s good to know, we last looked around 18 months ago and none were as good but maybe it’s changed! Thanks I’ll check them out!

We test drove quite a few but the Tesla came out on top, we will have to see for next time.

My sister owns one and wouldn't even think of it she laughed when I mentioned this thread.

Musk shot starlink out to Ukraine and it's vital for their survival so on a serious note, absolutely not

Petuniaspetal · 18/03/2025 19:51

Musk is a nazi. So for me it would be like buying a car at Adolfs garage in the early 40s.

Musk is currently buying the next election in Wisconsin so if you're good with dictatorships buy a Tesla.

Funny, because my 2019 model 3 performance, although admittedly not better built, was faster, longer range and cheaper.

297miles

I was listening to a podcast today and by all accounts Tesla is behind with other EVs eg byd.... and other Chinese models which are more advanced in technology.

Tesla were caught out by the Canadians trying to diddle the books to get subsidies for their evs. Eg claimed they had sold some ridiculous amount of cars in a very short period of time. They might even have banned them

The share price is tanking, there are some rumours about musk being asked to go as CEO, and someone has sold 500000 shares . It doesn't look good. 😃
