Tesla cars: are you getting rid of yours?

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:16

Disclaimer: I can't afford a Tesla anyway!

However, I do know of several very decent people who own Tesla cars. They paid a lot for them and know that they can only sell them at a loss. It doesn't seem fair really.

If you have one, what are your future plans with it?

On that note, what will happen to the cars next do you think? Will the company go bust?

But I'll continue to drive the car I bought in good faith and continues to serve me well. I couldn't give a shit if strangers are embarrassed for me in the car park.

Exactly, I cannot understand how people can get embarrassed on behalf of anyone else. The whole point of embarrasment is that you get embarrassed or you are embarrassed about something someone else did that reflects on you. So either way YOU are embarrassed not the person with a Tesla

I think it's fascinating how someone who was somewhat lauded a few years ago can really fuck up their image so quickly.

To be honest, was he? His behaviour has always been visibly strange and not, in my view, in the best interests of anyone but his ego long term. Remember the Thai school kids in the cave rescue and how he spoke about the actual rescuers when they politely turned down his silly submarine? I think the writing has been on the wall that it hasn't just been an honest business doing broadly useful things for him.

LameBorzoi · 14/03/2025 10:04

I'm now wondering if I can purchase one second hand, as I'm not giving money to the company.

I have always thought he was a fucking idiot but that played no part in my car buying decision.

Exactly. Some of the posters here are a little embarrassing to be honest 🫣

loadalaundry · 14/03/2025 10:06

@Mydadsbirthday

Because I personally don't want to support Tesla any more.

So you understand why people do assume a new Tesla owner supports Elon?

There was some odd stuff before, but it seemed more "just eccentric" beck then, rather than nasty, which is what we are getting now.

loadalaundry · 14/03/2025 10:08

I am not embarrassed for Tesla drivers, I feel sorry for some that may lose a lot of resale value when they decide they need a new car. And as I already said I would assume a new owner had views that aligned with MAGA which is completely their choice.

See this is the kind of shite that makes me even more determined to keep mine

So you are influenced by strangers as much as those who would get rid as quick as possible

I judge people who drive them

loadalaundry · 14/03/2025 10:11

@Chunkilumptious well I was thinking before the Thai thing. I think he was seen as quite revolutionary & innovative & why so many liberals liked his cars. Now he seems just weird.

I do think if the core Trump voter becomes the epitome of the new Tesla driver (unlikely because I don't think they are particularly environmentally inclined) that will tank sales faster than suspect Nazi tendencies!

How many times are you going to keep
repeating that you really don't care what others think?! 😆

Using 'Virtue Signalling' as a label to throw at people is as manipulative as calling someone a 'Karen'.

Purely designed to shut down legitimate discussions, concerns and disagreement.

Agreed. It really shows a poster's true colours.

loadalaundry · 14/03/2025 10:16

Tbf doubling down is understandable and also very Trump like

yes it invalidates their argument. If they truly didn't care why would they be repeating it ad infinitum!

I completely agree. Everyone I know who has one is a really decent person and not aligned with Elon in any way. I do feel bad for them.

Do you know the owners political views of every branded item you buy. This is is a joke surely!! I’m laughing anyway!

JasmineAllen · 14/03/2025 10:18

watchseehear · 14/03/2025 09:53

"Is people want to boycott then that's understandable, its the picking and choosing of what to be outraged about that I think weakens the argument."

I guess it makes sense to be aware of the other companies and what they have done (and I think most on this thread probably are, but the "picking and choosing" relates to the most important issue to people at this current time, this is why people do it. It makes the most difference.

If you can't fight every cause simultaneously (and no I am not promoting the idea of buying a VW or whatever) then choose the one you can that makes the most immediate difference or is the biggest issue to you right now.

To be a human is to be a hypocrite some of the time. I'd rather be that, and make a small difference.

I can see what you mean @watchseehear and I agree to an extent. I just get irked by the puerile name calling that politics has turned into and the pick and choose outrage/boycotts/cancelling that happen.

I don't like EM or Trump, but I would be completely behind people not buying Tesla because they think EM is an unelected idiot with too much power. It's the linking him to nazism when there are wealthy companies who actually grew and succeeded on the back of the nazi party and no one appears to care about that, that I have a problem with.

Yes, it was along time ago but many of those companies flourished under the actual real Nazi party, not an idiot doing a salute.

It makes me suspect some people aren't entirely honest about their reasons for boycotting Tesla and it's more to do with their dislike of Musk/Trump rather than they are repelled by links to the Nazi Party.

Hitler came to power in 1933. He died in 1945 (the 3rd Reich with him).

It's now 2025.

Hope that helps.

Regarding your final paragraph, I think it's because people are watching the current descent of the US towards fascism with open mouths. Trump and Musk are some of the main (if not THE main) perpetrators of this (excepting Putin, of course). The actions Trump is taking run parallel in many ways with what happens in any fascist takeover. I truly worry for the democracy of the country, Trump posted an anti gay Nazi symbol the other day, each day it's some other hideous thing that promotes fascist ideology and chips away at civil liberties.

We own a Tesla ( lease from company) and cannot give it back for 2 more years without loosing money.
Have free charge for the next year and I intent to use it as much as possible.
Won't be getting another one when due for renewal.

i’m in the exact same position. Desperately hoping Musk is somehow no longer associated with Tesla in 2 years’ time as I bloody love this car and none of the other EVs we tried fit the bill

The point is @JasmineAllenthat those companies such as VW or hugo boss are no longer propping up the Nazi party. By your logic, noone would ever be able to deal with a German company for the last 80 years.

Elon Musk is doing damage now. He is making decisions now and propping up a regime very publicly which is causing immense harm to people. Now.

Everyone has their line in the sand, where they withdraw support.

Not letting politics affect your car choice, is still a very deliberate decision.
