Tesla cars: are you getting rid of yours?

CrazyOldMe · 13/03/2025 21:16

Disclaimer: I can't afford a Tesla anyway!

However, I do know of several very decent people who own Tesla cars. They paid a lot for them and know that they can only sell them at a loss. It doesn't seem fair really.

If you have one, what are your future plans with it?

On that note, what will happen to the cars next do you think? Will the company go bust?

Our director has one. He is quite well off; said yesterday he's either donating it or burning it, and buying something else.

Papadonut · 14/03/2025 00:25

If anyone is thinking of selling theirs at a loss please let me know! I'd love to drive one.

But buying a Tesla now is like giving money to Hitler then. Tesla is actually owned by a dangerous fascist right now.
Chatting about other car brands etc is just, at best, silly whataboutery

I stand corrected, this wins! Holy shit. They’ve done a number on you.

Hardly.... Jeez

TooBigForMyBoots · 14/03/2025 00:28

If I had a Tesla I don't think I'd get rid of it because Musk is a twat. But Musk being a twat would put me off buying another and I'm trying to cut my reliance/expenditure on American stuff atm.

Other more efficient and reliable EVs are available for less cost.

Gosh you're clearly the marketing wing of Tesla UK aren't you?

I won't be selling mine, I enjoy driving it.
I bought it around 18 months ago and I imagine it would be a bad decision to sell it now for financial reasons anyway.
I also don't make financial or life decisions based on politics. The virtue signalling around Teslas annoys me and makes me less not more likely to get rid of mine.It is nobodys business what car I drive.
My main concern is that while I charge at home around 90% of the time on longer journeys I do sometimes need to charge and prefer the Tesla chargers, so if there are fewer of those I won't be happy
Even so I will make it work

I totally judge people who drive Tesla’s now. Most people o know who have them have got rid of them. It’s fucking embarrassing!!’

Explainthe · 14/03/2025 00:30

I'd judge someone buying one now too. I parked next to one today and felt nothing but pity and embarrassment on their behalf. I've got an EV and it certainly isn't and never will be a Tesla.

lavenderlou · 14/03/2025 00:32

I would be surprised if people sold existing Teslas but I expect new sales to drop.

Yeah right. Things that never happened.

Do you use products by Proctor and Gamble? Eat Nestlé? Should I judge you on their records and assume that you agree with their ethics and standards? It's ridiculous to assume that people who drive or buy a tesla support facism.

Ursulla · 14/03/2025 00:36

Good god, people really will virtue signal around everything these days won't they. As though the rest of the automobile industry was some paragon of saintliness. As though petrol was an unproblematic product. It's the same kind of brain-free chunter we had about Russia a few years ago - boycotting vodka etc.

Burning it would be so idiotic.

most people won’t be selling their car and I don’t see how any sensible person can judge them for that. Cars are a big purchase and not something that you can change your mind on a year or so in, sell at a loss and buy another one

Actually heaps of people are aware with the issues around petrol. I know lots of people who have reduced their fuel usage and switched to bikes /walking /public transport due to the environmental and ethical issues with using lots of petrol

But it's not virtue signalling to not want to push money Musks way. It's something people can tangibly do to make a difference. Consumer power is huge and it has an impact. It's where our power lies as a population

Ursulla · 14/03/2025 00:41

No it isn't. You don't exercise power by buying stuff.

Undrugged · 14/03/2025 00:42

I don’t have one as I could never afford one, but if I was in the market for an EV I’d not consider one because of Musk’s involvement in the company. I definitely DO make purchasing decisions based on political reasons. I find it unfathomable that people just buy what works for them regardless. I’d feel dirty doing that.

No, and no.
But yeah, it's always a winning argument to say we shouldnt boycott any product because there are other questionable products.

Consumers have power. We have the choice what we buy and in exercising that choice we can help shape the world.

What a curious viewpoint.... I guess you've got a very limited understanding of economics, history, politics, marketing ....

I love how the word Tesla in a post acts like a dog whistle for raving MAGAs
