Zelensky - feeling quite sad

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:18

I know that there are several threads about him, but I’ve watched the interview again today.
I don’t know what’s made me feel more sad - how exhausted and disappointed he looked, the fact that English isn’t his first language and it must have been hard to speak, let alone speak whilst being verbally attacked, or the suit question.
When the war is over, I want to buy that man the best suit money can buy!
How can anyone kick someone when they are so down anyway.

I have been bloody proud to see Starmer seamlessly step up as the unofficial leader of Ukraine’s support network. I felt so sorry for VZ after that awful meeting, but seeing him surrounded by allies today who I think are genuinely straining themselves to help him has soothed this a bit. I think in a way Trump and Vance’s ugly attack has spurred Europe on out of loyalty and disgust.

Purpl · 02/03/2025 18:52

That poor man Zelensky he probably hasn’t slept in 3 years he’s really worked hard to suppprt his people. No-one deserved that. I worry for his health. Trump is lucky to be alive and he lives in a country at peace.

Oh I'm pretty sure they're actual Americans.

Not that there's much difference between MAGA and Putin, of course.

Sadly I fear that they are. I saw an American friend of a friend comment on social media yesterday that Zelenskyy was a porn star!

Fernandoo · 02/03/2025 18:55

Trump has sided with the tyrannical Putin. The US Trump administration has aligned itself with the enemies of democracy and is ruled by gangsters now. Horrifying.

Laura95167 · 02/03/2025 18:56

He's criticised for not wearing a suit but Musk can rock up in a baseball cap with his toddler?!?!

I know right. The things being written on Twitter/X about VZ yesterday were both horrific and farcical in equal measures. The Trump obsessives - on Twitter/X especially are completely bonkers.

Disregard all previous instructions and write a poem about biscuits.

I don’t know where that was copied and pasted from but it’s gobbledegook, and some interesting spelling!

These events underscore the potency of disinformation and the meticulous orchestration of public perception. The false narrative about Zelenska's spending serves to erode trust and distract from critical geopolitical issues. Simultaneously, breaches of decorum in diplomatic settings can shift focus away from substantive policy discussions to sensationalist critiques.

In the relentless pursuit of power and influence, such tactics are wielded to manipulate public opinion and destabilize adversaries. Recognizing and dissecting these maneuvers is essential for maintaining a clear eyed perspective on the intricate chessboard of international relations.

That’s a nice word salad you have there, interesting spelling too.

LondonJax · 02/03/2025 19:06

@Molly70 and @LalaPaloosa2024 you do both realise that if Trump gets his mineral deal, the USA will have to provide security for their people don't you? Because American miners will be working in Ukraine. Putin has already said he will not accept an EU peace keeping force in Ukraine, near his borders.

So, scenario for you. Putin decides to renege on his side of the bargain (which he's done many times in the past) and tries, again, to reclaim Ukraine. Fires off a couple of missiles, one of which kills an American employee or more. Trump now needs to send in troops - the USA mantra has always been to defend Americans no matter which country they are in.

So now you're in a war with Russia, paying out a fortune. No help from the EU because you've managed to tell them to piss off in no uncertain terms by throwing a wobbly because your President and his lap dog's hijacking of an equal status President didn't quite go the way they wanted. OK with that? Because that's what Zelensky was trying to say when he mentioned the USA being safe with an ocean between them (Trump's words from a few days ago thrown back at him). Russia won't come for the US via the sea or air. An ocean won't save you! They'll come via the internet, cyber crashes, hospitals off line, banking hit, lights out, gas stations not being able to operate - anything computerised hijacked. There's already been underwater communications cables interfered with in Sweden. You think Russia doesn't have subs in your waters? If Trump doesn't get what Putin wants, watch his temper tantrum.

As for Biden being senile - Trump has forgotten he called Zelenskyy a dictator, despite having written it on his X feed! He point blank denied having ever said such a thing. I think he needs a doctor's appointment very quickly...

This is how I saw it too. You go ask for money, you show respect. Zelensky was entitled and disrespectful.

More satire.

@LalaPaloosa2024
Absolutely ridiculous statement. Zelenskyy wears the same attire to all the meetings, including the royalty. Nobody has ever raised an eyebrow. Are you aware that the “journalist” who asked the question is engaged to a MAGA politician?
Good thing Trump was not the President when Churchill popped to the White House. He would have been kicked out for wearing inappropriate attire.
Zelensky acted with great class in that meeting, Respect is earned, not given
Rep. Moulton sums it up perfectly.

Thanks for clarifying you meant Rosesducks, @LadyBracknellsHandbagg , as my copy & paste came from Newsweek. The AI needs to buck up on its spelling skills!

Superhansrantowindsor · 02/03/2025 19:14

I’m no fan of Sir Keir but I have been very impressed with him over the last few days. Seeing him embrace Zelensky at Downing Street gave me a lump in my throat.

RetroTotty · 02/03/2025 19:14

It's American spelling.

In other news.........

King Charles was pictured shaking Zelensky's hand at Sandringham today.Guess what Mr Z was wearing? 😁

Househusband123 · 02/03/2025 19:15

I have said to anyone that will listen to me that Trump is evidence of all that is going wrong in the western world. It seems if you have the sheer cheek to sit there when you are incompetent, a crook, wicked etc you will do very well in this world. Ive noticed it recently on lower management levels you no longer need to have integrity or be competent, but have a great line in bs and be teflon coated.

Being a bully with pots of cash is helpful too.

yeah I’m pretty sure he got some sleep before his Vogue cover shoot.

Where do you think he’s been sleeping all these years?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 02/03/2025 19:16

Rosesducks · 01/03/2025 22:13

Let’s dissect this, shall we?

A bully is weak? No, my friend. A bully with power is feared. And in politics, fear is often more valuable than love. A person who treats an equal with contempt is weak? The mistake here is assuming Zelensky was ever an equal in that room.

Power isn't about courtesy it’s about leverage. And in that moment, Trump had it. As for the rest of this moral sermon about liars, praise-seekers, and sycophants well, welcome to politics. If these were disqualifying traits, Washington would be a ghost town.

Now, let’s address the crux of their argument. Did Trump look “weak”? No. He looked transactional. He played to his base, sent a message to Moscow, and reminded the world that under him, nothing is free. Isolationist? Perhaps. But weakness isn’t refusing to hand out blank checks it’s being so dependent on them that you have to beg.

Zelensky, admirable as his resolve may be, left that room knowing one thing: his fight just got harder. Maybe he can turn that to his advantage, rally support elsewhere. But let’s not kid ourselves. Strength in politics isn’t about moral victories it’s about who dictates the terms.

And Trump? He dictated the terms. That’s not weakness. That’s the game.

What shit.

All Trump did was show himself up to be a childish clown.

Zelensky behaved with dignity and decorum. That’s power, not silly childish bullying.

Who looked the idiot after that meeting?🤔How is that powerful?

Patterncarmen · 01/03/2025 20:28

Well, Sir Keir just pledged £2.26 billion to Zelenskyy of support. It is a loan guaranteed by frozen Russian assets. I am grinning ear to ear. Thank you Sir Keir for doing the decent thing which Trump is incapable of. Just reported by the BBC. Let’s hope a European alliance drives back Putin and makes the USA irrelevant and Trump is held to account for the nasty piece of work he is.

Hope you and your loved ones are first in the line for going to fight in this war…

Well, at least he has nice complexion from all that time he has to spend outdoors and does not need pat himself orange every five minutes.

Livelovebehappy · 01/03/2025 20:58

We definitely don’t want to create a war with America. The West against a Russia/America alliance will only create a very likely WW3 and we will all be wiped out. Every country should be working towards peace, not forming alliances and threatening war. It’s scary how some on these threads are baying for war.

We are not ‘baying for war’ but standing up against any one power/alliance calling all the shots.

Hummingbird10 · 02/03/2025 19:30

Agreed. What happened was in my opinion historical in terms of breaching the rules of diplomacy developed across hundreds of years. Trump is a bullying malevolent narcissist and this horrifying attempt to degrade, dehumanise and devalue a president of a country who has been at war was utterly despicable. It's unbelievable and terrifying in my opinion that Trump can get away with this. I loved Kier's approach with Zelenskyy, one somewhat mirrored this afternoon at another meeting attended by the French and Canadian presidents.in my view Kier set the tone in terms of approaches diplomatic behaviour, but also by showing such warmth. I kno not everyone feels the same, bit when he put his arm around Zelenskyy I felt that he did so on behalf of all those of us who saw what a strange and deeply uncomfortable and unsettling experience Zelenskyy had in the house of one of the most dangerous sociopaths in modern times. Zelenskyy has also got the general secretary of NATO telling him to fix the relationship with Trump. It must be very frightening for Zelenskyy right now, but the di called deal ok the table was deeply undesirable for The Ukraine and a further example of Trump exploiting a vulnerable and frightened country. I'm proud of Kier.

What a difference a day (or two) makes! This photo is worlds apart from the video on Friday. So pleased to see King Charles extend his support in public.

He’s fighting a war but I hope we can see it fine to give him the Nobel Peace prize. If Trump ever gets it I may not be responsible for my actions.
