Zelensky - feeling quite sad

Bakewelltart1 · 01/03/2025 20:18

I know that there are several threads about him, but I’ve watched the interview again today.
I don’t know what’s made me feel more sad - how exhausted and disappointed he looked, the fact that English isn’t his first language and it must have been hard to speak, let alone speak whilst being verbally attacked, or the suit question.
When the war is over, I want to buy that man the best suit money can buy!
How can anyone kick someone when they are so down anyway.

@Molly70 Interesting to read your thoughts that all that matters is who has the power to dictate to others.
In reality, someone who only cares about power and domination can subject others in the short term. But in the long term, others gather strength and conspire to overthrow someone like that.
Long term leaders require co-operation and goodwill, not just power and domination. You see this in international politics, and in the animal kingdom.
The only people who manage to rule by sheer power and domination have to kill millions of people to do so. Genghis Khan managed it for 21 years. But otherwise, you do not survive with that approach.

All Trump has done is express a desire to stop the killing in Ukraine

JoyousGreyOrca · 02/03/2025 01:30

@Molly70 You know that is not true. Trump has demanded access to 50% of rare minerals in Ukraine, for nothing in return. Threatened to take over the Panama Canal and Greenland, said Canada should be the 51st state, said all the Palestinians should move out of Gaza and surrounding countries should take them as refugees.

I think that taking some minerals as compensation for the money that has been spent is very reasonable

Did you watch a different interview to the rest of us? It was a premeditated ambush, the "journalist" asking Zelensky whether he had a suit in such a disrespectful manner was also premeditated

I know. “Do you own a suit?” Like it matters.

BippidyBoppety · 02/03/2025 01:34

I felt such joy in hearing the cheers from the crowds outside Number 10 earlier. Stood in my living room applauding the telly ....

DT & JD tag-teamed on Zelenskyy - I honestly felt they were out to wind him up, get him to lose his temper in the Oval Office in front of TV cameras. Portray Zelenskyy as unreasonable, volatile, unfit to be President of Ukraine - the body language of DT, DT's 3 shoves to Zelenskyy's shoulder (had me raging). JD bringing up nonsense as in Zelenskyy's attire, not saying thank you (to Trump, Zelenskyy has said it to Biden in the past). And bringing up Zelenskyy in campaigning for Kamala Harris (- sour grapes). Absolute bully boys, undiplomatic to a guest President, shameful.

It was mentioned on Radio 4 earlier this week that Trump really wants the Nobel Peace Prize; peace in Ukraine was one of his electoral promises.

DT doesn't care if Ukraine has to surrender in order for peace to be achieved.

DT doesn't care if Ukraine has to give up part of it's country to Russia for peace to be achieved.

DT doesn't care if Russia go back on any agreement made now in 2 - 3 - 5 years, it means absolute nothing to DT. He'll shrug it off, while the Ukrainian people suffer - and Zelenskyy won't be safe.

As previous poster said, this is due to Russian action. DT said Zelenskyy was an un-elected dictator earlier this week - that Ukraine started the War currently raging with Russia ... Some weak minded people take what DT says as fact without bothering to fact-check.

Only if you're a gangster. Edit, demanding every penny back after the war (like the US did to the UK after ww2) may be reasonable. But demanding it return for not helping the Russians take Ukraine is pure gangsterism.

@Molly70 It's fascinating to read your posts to see into the mind of someone who thinks Trump is doing a good job. I know quite a few folks in the States and their collective opinion is very different.

I'm not sure that Congress will curb what you describe as "his worst excesses", and I wonder what he would have to do for you to acknowledge that America under Trump is in deep, deep trouble. Torpedo the soft power it's taken decades to acquire? Cut medical aid for the poorest in society? Reduce women's rights to rubble?

What would it take for you to acknowledge that Trump is a rapist on a nationwide level?

juggleit · 02/03/2025 01:37

Molly70 · 02/03/2025 00:32

You obviously have DTS and are not seeing this objectively. His administration has gotten off to a tremendous start for the American people and people are happy with what he has accomplished so far. I think the meeting on Friday couple have been handled better all round but on the whole Trump is delivering for America as he was elected to do.

He may well be delivering but to an increasing isolated country who don't seem to have the foresight to see the fecking big train hurtling down the tracks bringing the largest cluster fucks the worlds has seen in quite a long time. Trump
Is backing the wrong team here and we will all pay the price.

You think stealing rare minerals from a country is just? Interesting.
The worth of the rare minerals is estimated to be worth four times more than the cost of the aid GIVEN to Ukraine.

Nobody is cutting aid to the poorest and the abortion issue is a decision taken at state level. Where I live, you can have an abortion up to 23 weeks. If people don’t like abortion rights in their states they need to elect state representatives that align with their views. Trump has never been convicted of rape in a criminal court.

Trump is the least Churchillian man to ever walk the earth.

Sorry, Churchill is not all you make him out to be. Look into what caused the Bengal famine. Not altogether different from an America First ideology I am afraid (although, yes, certainly more complicated).

America needs to retain it’s global lead in technology and not let hostile countries have overriding access to theses important minerals. Your thinking is very short sighted.

JoyousGreyOrca · 02/03/2025 01:46

@Molly70 In chimp society, a brutal dictator can be leader of a pack through sheer cruelty. But as soon as that chimp is weak e.g. ill or injured, the others overthrow him. But a chimp that is leader of a pack through friendship and diplomacy is not overthrown like this.

Trump is taking a greedy approach to countries, its all about what he can get from them. As soon as Trump or the US, or both look weak, Trump will be taken down. Of course in the meantime he can do a lot of damage.

And all the US public cheering are going to change their mind as a tariffs war pushes US prices ever higher.

You do not know anything about technology. The US is not in the lead, whatever Trump says. But stealing valuable resources would bring in a lot of money.
It is old fashioned colonialism. Britain did the same during the industrial revolution, stealing valuable resources from poor countries.

America may want that. I don't think I need it to, why should I, I'm not an American.

JoyousGreyOrca · 02/03/2025 01:49

And other countries can see what Trump is doing. So they will build up their defences and create stronger alliances with others.

I agree - Trump doesn't have the bandwith or patience to play the long diplmatic game - its more business as usual than a political approach.

I don’t think that meeting was the time and place for Zelensky to start lecturing Trump and Vance. He called Vance, JD, which was very disrespectful. Trump ribbed him about his attire when he greeted him but it was a journalist who brought it up in the meeting. Zelinsky was there to sign the mineral agreement and he should have stuck to that and discussed other concerns privately. It was Trump and Vance who were ambushed

Absolute bull
Read the transcript. The hectoring. The interrupting. The talking over. The lecturing. The demands for gratitude. The rambling narratives.

But above all the lies

Also to lint out Z made it clear before he came he wanted security guarantees before signing. Trump thought he could bully him into doing it anyway

Except he's planning on on cutting down Medicaid and food stamps support. I would call that aid for the poorest wouldn't you?

An as women we all know how hard it is to getting a conviction in criminal court for rape especially against someone as rich and influential as Trump. An no he was "only" convicted for sexual assault and defamation, the details can be found here: ( warning very graphic)

When it comes to politics, the dems have shown that they will try and take Trump out by any means possible. For the average Joe, then things would be different

OneLemonDog · 02/03/2025 02:02

I think Trump is taking an extraordinary gamble.

He's banking on the US using its economic and military might to subjugate and exploit other nations, particularly its traditional allies, to secure US supremacy.

It might work out for them but, if it doesn't, the loss of goodwill towards the US will massively hurt its standing in the world, with significant economic ramifications.

My own guess, and it is a guess, is that we're seeing the start of the beginning of the US as a superpower, and it'll be very painful for all involved (save for the US's traditional adversaries).
