....then it has just started on Film 4.

Enemy Mine. About an astronaut and a male alien who collide in space and crash land on a planet. The male alien turns out to be pregnant and they co-exist on some hostile planet or other.

Really shite.

My vote is for Creep. Terrible film.

Two words. Bad Santa.

Bad Santa is a masterpiece!

Latenightreader · 01/03/2025 17:51

Atomic Train! Rob Lowe, Charlotte from Sex and the City, Mulder’s mum and Scully’s dad from the X-Files plus a lot of other people you half recognise. Someone escapes from a nuclear blast in a concrete tube, and lots of blended family reconciles in different combinations tropes. So bad it is funny, and twice cured middle of the night period pains.

Imisscoffee2021 · 01/03/2025 17:52

My mum watched it back in the 90s when houses had one TV so us kids were forced to watch whatever the grownups wanted. I remembered this mad film for years after but began to wonder I'd it wad a fever dream as NOONE remembered it.

Ishtar with Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman. The making of it is legendary , the poor female director just lost control. www.avclub.com/ishtar-35th-anniversary-elaine-may-warren-beatty-1848927280

I managed to see the last 10 minutes and I thought it was a home made wedding video . Truely, epically dreadful. Ignore what the review says , this is not a great film , it is an epically bad film but trying to see it is like finding the Holy Grail. It’s out there somewhere but only a select few will ever see it.

Bugger me, I'd managed to erase that from my memory. Ishtar was even worse than Dick Tracy or Hudson Hawk, and they were just dreadful.

If you'd like a very enjoyable book about making a bloody awful film, I recommend The Devil's Candy by Julia Salamon. It's about making Bonfire Of The Vanities, adapted from a big literary hit by Tom Wolfe. From the insane casting decisions to the sheer heroism of the Second Unit's determination to get a perfect 10 second shot of New York and Concord it's one hell of a read.

Poor Salamon didn't expect to be following the making of one of the biggest turkeys of the decade, but it made a corking book!

Megashark v Giant Octopus and Snarknado are the worst I’ve ever watched… do not ask me why I have seen both, I honestly couldn’t tell you, but it’s time I’m never getting back.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/03/2025 17:54

Agree re Royal Tenenbaums. Just mindbogglingly bad on every level. Even the late, great Gene Hackman could not save this pile of shite, lol.
ps rather enjoyed a cheeky wee Sharknado!

I offer The Lighthouse and Tenet

Tenet I walked out of

The Lighthouse I'm still not sure what I watched

I also hated Roma and The Shape Of Water which were Oscar Nominated

I hated The Shape of Water and I don't think I've been to the cinema since. Monster Porn dressed up as sci fi or something.

Just weird.

NeedWineNow · 01/03/2025 17:56

I will give you Raging Bull. Hours of unmitigating boredom.

SuperLemonCrush · 01/03/2025 17:57

I would like to add Aguirre, the Wrath of God into the mix…conquistadores, rainforest, strange diseases, paranoia and a “cosmic rock” soundtrack….the most depressing and just horrible film I have ever watched!

Desperatelydoomscrolling · 01/03/2025 17:57

We love the Sharktapus films in our house. SFX so bad I'm sure I could have created better on my phone and the acting is so bad it's actually really funny. 😀

Tigergirl80 · 01/03/2025 17:58

Ghost Ship it was the first dvd we watched when we first got a dvd player. We wasted money on renting it what a load of💩💩💩

SiobhanSharpe · 01/03/2025 17:58

I offer you a Jim Jarmush film ‘Broken Flowers’ starring Bill Murray, no less. It’s a load of pretentious drivel and ultimately it just
… stops.
There is no ending, no resolution, nothing.
There were about six other people in the cinema and when the lights came up we all looked utterly bemused.
Firstly because we didn’t realise it had ended until that moment and secondly because no-one had a clue what the fuck it was all about.
A criminal waste of Bill Murray too.

Wonkyspecs · 01/03/2025 17:59

Captain Ron with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell....my brother recommended it so I paid my £3 at the video shop to rent it for the evening ( yes, I am that old!) it was dire. I've never trusted his recommendations since

NewtonsCradle · 01/03/2025 17:34

'Piaffe' a German film where a woman makes horse sound effects and becomes sexually liberated as she grows a horse tail.

'The Room' possibly the worst script ever written. Quotes include:-
"Anyway, how's your sex life?"
"Leave your stupid comments in your pocket!"
"As far as I'm concerned you can drop off the planet, that's a promise!"

Wow, I haven’t seen many of the films listed but this…of all the bad films I now never want to watch these are they!

Cocojazz · 01/03/2025 18:00

For me it's Eraserhead. Just a bizarre nonsense film!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/03/2025 18:00

SPOILERS FOR SHAPE OF WATER

Yes @GoldenLegend of course I'll shag a sea monster that recently ate my neighbours cat and I'll do a vintage song and dance number as well while I'm at it

Plan 9 From Outer Space. So bad it's good. Winner of a Golden Turkey award. Billed as starring Bêla Lugosi but he died when they only had a few seconds of footage so they used a substitute who was about a foot shorter with a cloak across his face the whole time. Diabolical continuity- I could go on......

It's so bad that it's almost considered a classic now

Hwi · 01/03/2025 18:03

LateLessAbleToBeBothered · 01/03/2025 16:59

Can I give you The Three Amigos….it was the second worst film I’ve ever seen at the cinema, followed by first place Star Trek The Motion Picture (1979) fell asleep, I was cold and bored.

Sorry, how can you!!!! My little buttercup....won't you stay awhile.....

Daffiesmeanspring · 01/03/2025 18:05

I love Enemy Mine! They become friends and get past their differences. It's great 😳
I mean I'm sure it looks pretty old now, but that's ok

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/03/2025 18:05

Granted I haven't seen Three Amigos since I was a child but fond memories

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/03/2025 18:07

Shape of Water and Bad Santa are brilliant, lol.

thefirstmrsrochester · 01/03/2025 18:07

Seconding Eraserhead.

Still get angry decades later about the time I will never get back.

MikeRafone · 01/03/2025 18:07

Im going to offer....

T

Crocodile 2 the trailer is bad enough - the film producer has a cult following and the producer disappeared in mysterious circumstance

lcakethereforeIam · 01/03/2025 18:08

I quite liked Enemy Mine, although it was decades ago that I saw it.

Assassin's Creed is appallingly bad, even worse than I thought it was going to be.
