I saw the Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith after beating Celtic yesterday. I was bawling my eyes out. That song makes me cry every single time. And it's a happy song!! What song gets you every time?

"Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce. Reminds me of 1976 which was a turning point in my life.

Oh my goodness, yes I remember that very well.

Many Rivers to Cross - Jimmy Cliff
River - Leon Bridges
Rhythm of my heart - Rod Stewart
All the love in the World - Dionne Warwick
If thats what it takes - Celine Dion

(There seems to be a bit of a theme with rivers!! And Dionne's / Dion's 😂)

REM - everybody hurts. It came on the radio when I was driving home from the solicitor after swearing an affidavit for my divorce. I was sobbing. The man in the car next to me was looking very concerned. It was also one of my dad's favourite songs and we lost him 2 years ago.

suburburban · 23/02/2025 18:49

I haven't heard it for years' for obvious reasons but it just does.

Such a moving song

Leader of the pack is also sad and Terry

Lots mentioned here:

Everybody hurts- rem

Days - but it's the Kirsty McColl version that makes me cry due to her awful death.

Several songs that remind me of my lovely mum,

But for the 20 years, I can't play Iris Dement - My Town.

I first heard this as the closing song to Northern Exposure and I don't think I've ever cried more at a song . The lyrics really affected me.

A Time to Say Goodbye - various people have sung it over the years. It's a beautiful, haunting song and it makes me cry buckets.

Beautiful by Christina Aguilera

It came out when I was a teen getting horrendously bullied and suffering from an eating disorder which no one knew about it. Luckily I am in a very different place as an adult I but can't listen to it without feeling all those emotions again.

When I Grow Up, from Matilda. In fact, Tim Minchin in general is pretty good at making me cry

This. It reminds me of my friend’s little girl who died of cancer when she was 6. I heard it for the first time driving home from the hospice where I’d gone to say goodbye and just cried like a baby. So very cruel that she never got to grow up 😢

After All These Years - Foster & Allen

You've got the love by Florence and the Machine, reminds me of my horse, we were both alone and unwanted when we came together and pretty much saved each other, had him 16 years through a lot and the song always made me think of him before he died and how he'd kept me going through a lot, and now it brings memories. He died nearly 2 years ago. It's on the playlist at work and so I'm kind of immune there, because I have to be, but on my own it makes me cry.

Jerusalem always makes me cry as well.
