They may be in favour once result of legal challenge on VAT cones through. Seen article saying Disability cuts breach HR too and various charities looking at legal challenges.

That’s true. If the government loses the VAT legal challenge and UK leaves the ECHR, can they then reapply VAT?

Most likely yea but hopefully by then we won't have a Labour government

Parsley1234 · 23/03/2025 10:59

@twistyizzy i look forward to that day

We are all stuck with them.

Yes sadly

I think it's very telling that the public reaction to all these cuts has been quiet.
If the tories did this there would have been endless violent riots outside downing Street by now with grotesques and gargoyles of the tories and banners about brutal cuts and axes
Interesting because it's coming from their own team, silence and yet no riots or violence from the "other side".
Many on the right are equally horrified by the cuts.
Unfortunately after the winter fuels low bar cut off I don't hold out hope for any fair reforms done in a human and sympathetic way.

Yet Ed miliband has been awarded how many billions for net zero? Is this the time and place??

100% agree with this. I remember when the story hit about Elsie the pensioner riding on the buses to keep warm due to rising energy costs and posters on MN were going on and on about how cruel Boris Johnson/Conservatives were and all the poor pensioners who were cold and going to die. I now see the same names saying it is right to cut the WFA and most pensioners (including some of them) don't need it, pensioners are well off, spend it on cruises or holidays in Spain and yet 2 years ago, the howls went on for months.

TheNuthatch · 23/03/2025 20:33

Welcome to the thread @Liker 🙂

The economy is looking fine and dandy then. I couldn't watch Reeves on telly this morning, she's not worth listening to anymore.

Labour are now looking at sending migrants to a third country. Oh the irony!

Yep

@TheNuthatchyeh avoiding the nonsense from Reeves and co is pretty much all you can do

TheNuthatch · 23/03/2025 21:11

The labour front bench has cured me of my Me+Em clothing addiction though. I should thank them for that. It's saving me a small fortune 😂.
Rayner's green trouser suit has put me off for life!

@ChardonnaysBeastlyCat
That was a sobering read. Horrible.
Why the hell are they housing women and children with the men fgs. It also speaks volumes about some of the men arriving here.

Edited, pressed post too soon.

@thenuthatch I missed that about sending migrants to an other country jeez they’re as thick as mince. Controversial opinion here my friends daughter has a son with an EHCP with DLA plus she gets carers the little boy is a normal child he’s a bit behind 6 months according to the school but no obvious disability he was given the EHCP before starting school. It is no wonder the benefits bill is going to be 70 billion in a bit some people seem to work the system others who are very disabled seem worse off. I haven’t explained it well but hopefully enough to be u derstood

Phillipson suggesting £500 million FURTHER cuts to state sector. That's in addition to the 1.4 billion already identified

https://www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/article/free-school-meals-face-the-chop-for-some-younger-pupils-tpswtdvbj

So much for the PS VAT fixing the state sector. So now they are taxing PSs, and cutting the state sector. Incompetence on steroids.

An article about Lincolnshire Council paying £42 per day in taxis to transport a previously privately educated girl to a state school.

The transport secretary was awful on Sky News this morning. The government wants the focus to be on potholes today. Yes, potholes!

Instead of talking about potholes, Heidi Alexander was grilled about the Heathrow fire. The National Grid are now saying that there was enough power to keep the airport running, so no need for the shutdown. She also admitted that she had only spoken to the Chief Exec of Heathrow once.
She then got questioned on Reeves accepting free concert tickets. More freebies.

That MP was so bad, think it was the same one on R4. Deflecting again on job losses. Insufferable to listen to.

OTH a really good economist on Times Radio. Really easy to get and outlined mistakes. Tax on jobs ie NI a big mistake, entering stall zone with growth halved, Labour making things worse. Only way out is growth which is looking constrained due to their policies.

TheNuthatch · 24/03/2025 10:38

The Times radio interview sounds good. I've never seen or heard Heidi Alexander speak before. She was shocking. Worth remembering that she is the replacement for Lou phones4u Haigh.

Sorry to hear that about your ds. This is happening a lot at the moment. A couple of my dd's uni friends have had the same experience with their part time retail jobs.

@TheNuthatch yes it’ll be more common I think for 21 plus god she’s an absolute idiot so short sighted

EasternStandard · 24/03/2025 17:36

@Parsley1234that’s so annoying. Reeves is to blame and Starmer. Ds is at uni and does a summer job. Hopefully still.

PuttingouttheFirewithGasoline · 24/03/2025 18:42

@EasternStandard absolutely they have taxed jobs not profit.
What a cock up all around.
