My brother worked on Jackie for several years in the 70's ( was deputy Ed for a while) ...his dog was used on several fashion photshoots
got loads of freebies as part of his job! ...he got me into The Body Shop when they had a promotion in the magazine for essential oils as it had just started in Brighton
my best friend at school turned down an English degree at Edinburgh University in order to work on Jackie when she left school

Yes - I’m a bit older than you and I fondly remember my double page pin up of Marc Bolan!

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/02/2025 20:11

Shaped my life Jackie magazine did, lol, taught me sooo much.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 07/02/2025 20:12

It was my first pre-teen magazine I absolutely loved it. It got me obsessed with style and beauty. Used to come out on Wednesday, my dad used to get it for me, I would rush home from school to read it.
Anne French - I was only thinking about it yesterday I absolutely loved it! Everything I worse I got was Boots 17. I can remember Rimmel used to do double page spreads packed with products. When I got spots I used Triac which smelt like sulphur, and I loved a lemon peel off mask from Avon. Avon was such a treat!
I also started getting Smash Hits in 1979 which I also loved.
Other mags? Blue Jeans was great I loved the picture stories, and my friend’s sister used to give me copies of 19 and Honey when she had finished with them.
I got Just Seventeen when I was 14 and it felt more grown up. I still have the first copy. Have a few Jackie’s as well.
Also remember when More first came out it was far more racy!
As a young girl I used to spend hours making my own magazines I’d spend hours on them.

Oh yes I'm another one who progressed from Bunty to Jackie!
Jackie day was the highlight of my week!

DreamW3aver · 07/02/2025 20:16

I think a more interesting question would be did any teenagers of the time not read it?

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 07/02/2025 20:17

Branleuse · 07/02/2025 20:09

I loved it.
I went from Bunty to Jackie, to J17

My first was Twinkle! Such innocent times. Used to love the free gifts with mags as well!

witwatwoo · 07/02/2025 20:18

I had Twinkle then Look in then Jackie. First got it in 84 when I was 10, I even remember that the models on the front were wearing sailor hats !
Progressed to J17 and Mizz with the racy problem pages !!!

OhWhatsTheBloodyPoint · 07/02/2025 20:18

I was a fan too! All seems so innocent now (compared to teen agendas these days) - remember the ‘dedicated follower of fashion’?! So glad I lived through that era, quite misty eyed in fact…

witwatwoo · 07/02/2025 20:20

Read More at uni, mid 90s with 'position of the fortnight' (blush)

Ohhhh, I loved the photo stories. Gave me some rather unrealistic expectations about relationships, but hey ho! Happy memories of writing fake letters to Cathy & Claire and hoping to get published 🤭

LunaNorth · 07/02/2025 20:21

I loved Jackie in the mid-80s, it felt like being in a little gang, lots of in-jokes, etc. It was very funny, back then.

KohlaParasaurus · 07/02/2025 20:24

When I was about 12 I asked to switch from Mandy and Debbie to Jackie, got a few issues, and then my mother stopped the order at the newsagent. She said she'd read one of my copies and it was "stupid". She didn't say what in particular she objected to, but I wonder now if she was worried that one of my younger sisters might get hold of it and blurt out, "Mum, what's a Tampax?" or something like that at an inappropriate moment.

witwatwoo · 07/02/2025 20:25

Also smash Hits with their nicknames - Matt, Luke and Ken !

Loved Jackie in the 70s. Poster of David Cassidy with his horse on the back of my bedroom door. Happy days.

StrugglingwithIvanhoe · 07/02/2025 20:25

I loved Jackie. Also Fab 208. Anyone remember that?

madaboutpurple · 07/02/2025 20:25

I adored it especially if it had a poster of David Cassidy in it.

Yes, I read it in that era and agree about the part-of-the-gang feel.

I think I had the same one!!!

tobee · 07/02/2025 20:28

I didn't read Jackie mostly because my df worked for a rival magazine company. I used to read Mates and Fab and my sister read Pink!

I've bought a few vintage annuals from them from eBay.

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2025 20:28

My sister had Jackie, and I had Romeo, so obviously we read both. One advantage of having a sister!

BestIsWest · 07/02/2025 20:29

I got Jackie every week and my best friend got Fab 208 which was definitely cooler but I liked the stories in Jackie.

Tomatocutwithazigzagedge · 07/02/2025 20:30

I bought a few annuals of Jackie and Blue Jeans a few years ago, from Ebay. I'm 54. 😳 I had the best afternoon on the couch, with a bag of Maltesers flipping through the annuals. All that was missing was Radio Luxembourg, which used to get REALLY LOUD when the Tampax adverts played.

One of the girls in my brothers year was in one of the Blue Jeans photo romance stories. I was so utterly jealous. As a teen in the 80's that was the equivalent of going to school with a celeb. 😂😂😂
