Anyone discovered an affair after an accident?

I recently watched a TV programme about a woman who found out her husband was having an affair after he'd been involved in a serious accident which also involved his affair partner. She thought he was away on business.

Has this happened to anyone in real life?

How shocking it must be and you must have so many questions in your head!

I know of someone whose husband died at his work of a massive heart attack. He died texting the OW. The wife had all of his possessions returned to her, including his second phone that he used for his affairs. Brutal.

Not an affair,I read of one the guy was with a dominatrix and took a heart attack. The woman gave him CPR till ambulance came and I think she phoned to inform the wife.

New Tricks did an episode with the storyline.

I used to work in marketing for a holiday company back in the days when we produced glossy holiday brochures and sent them out to our mailing list.

Imagine finding out your husband was having an affair whilst leafing through next year's brochure seeing him in the background of resort photos entwined with his lover. He rang us up, he was very angry. His wife had seen them.

When I was a kid, a bunch of us were taken to the park by one of our Dads and his "friend".
A kid fell in the duck pond. Dad and "friend" came rushing out of the bushes to save the kid......still buttoning up their blouse and trousers.
That was how the affair was discovered. Duck pond kid was fine.

Some years ago a man in the UK who was having an affair took his baby to meet his mistress and let go of the pram handle to kiss her.
The pram rolled into the sea and the baby drowned.
Doesn’t get more horrific than that 🥲

There was a thread on here years ago where the husband was unconscious in hospital from an accident and the Op had seen from his phone he'd been having an affair. I think of it every so often - assume the thread was removed.

farmlife2 · 03/02/2025 07:45

I do know of someone whose affair was uncovered due to unfortunate circumstances. The truth will out.

HumanBurrito · 03/02/2025 07:49

Look at the A6 murder case OP, it kind of matches.

I work in a hospital and have seen a handful of things like this happen over the years - patients hadn't had accidents but were either admitted due to illness or due to planned procedures/ops. I won't give details (for obvious reasons), but seeing the fallout was horrendous. It was bloody awful for the wife (the times I know of, it was the patient - a guy - who was having an affair/had a whole secret second family) and first family. To have to deal with that on top of having your husband/dad in hospital, I can't imagine how heartbreaking it must be. Us staff really felt for the wife/family.

I remember a lady posting here about her husband/partner who'd had a fatal accident/health incident whilst he was out cycling (am I right on that one?). She had kids. I think she found out about the affair from his phone/computer. I think about her often.

I recently discovered a fantastic musician and when I googled to find out more about her there was a newspaper article explaining how she lost her husband to suicide just after their baby was burning and when his things were returned she discovered he’d been having an affair. I don’t know where you begin to deal with all that but she’s done amazingly well & will continue to flourish, she refuses to let that define her or her child’s life.

i actually found out about my dads affair by accident. I was using his iPad for school work, and his Facebook messenger kept pinging. I went to close it, and there were 100’s of messages sexual from this woman. I went down to the kitchen and showed my mum. He had been having an affair for 6 years😬 with a woman from work who was 15 years younger. My dad had no idea that his Facebook messages also pinged through his iPad. They’ve now been divorced for 13 years.

stayathomer · 03/02/2025 08:06

I always remember it in Greys anatomy- the man was with a younger woman and had a heart attack with one of them handcuffed to the bed or something and they had to bring them in I always remember the wife coming in and saying‘I suppose you think this is funny’ and her acting was AMAZING, I was actually gutted for her

BackoffSusan · 03/02/2025 08:10

I know a husband who had a heart attack and died at a brothel. His wife had to deal with his death and discovering a whole other side to the person she married. He'd been sleeping with young, foreign girls who were here illegally and being exploited.

NewKidOnTheBlock99 · 03/02/2025 08:14

I always think about those two backpackers who were murdered in Thailand years ago! They had gone down to the beach to hook up (apparently) were killed and the guy had a girlfriend who was clearly referenced in articles. Always thought it must have been awful for her.

When those guys were stuck down the mine there was a wife and mistress wasn't there. Was it Mexico?

Chile. But yes.

lilytuckerpritchet · 03/02/2025 08:24

There's a really good book where this happens I think it's a Lisa jewel.

Often a man isn't it?

My aunt was a nurse in A&E. Her husband showed up with a broken nose with his mistress by his side. Apparently the mistress’ husband had found out!

Wow

LonelyMom123 · 03/02/2025 08:29

There was a couple who were on Don't tell the Bride who were later in the papers as he had been having an affair which she discovered when they were on the way to hospital when he was taken ill and went into a coma.

GCAcademic · 03/02/2025 08:34

I know someone who was right in the middle of their final exams at university when they found out that their father had had an accident abroad. It then came out at the hospital that not only did he have a longstanding mistress but also a child from that relationship.

ZekeZeke · 03/02/2025 08:36

Ruth Wislon the actress played the role Mrs Wilson a few years back.
It was based on her own grandmother, Alison, who discovered, upon the sudden death of her husband Alec, that he had another, secret family(s)

Not everything you read is true.

Mielbee · 03/02/2025 08:45

This happened to a family member of mine. She had been with him for decades but never lived together - my mum said he had had a bad divorce and that was apparently why. I always thought it was a bit odd.

Then one day she receives a phone call from a woman to say she was calling all of his friends from his address book because he had had a very serious accident and was in hospital.

In the conversation it came out that they had both considered themselves his girlfriend, for decades, with no idea about the other. He lived with the other one and used to meet my family member at a little flat he had inherited. My family member went to the hospital to see him and he wouldn't even look her in the eye, and then died not too long afterwards. I'd never have believed it if it hadn't literally happened to a close family member!

We have a well known recent example in the media. Guy tells his wife he’s going on a camping trip with mates. He goes on a camping trip with the mistress. They are murdered while on the camping trip, wife raises the alarm when he doesn’t come home. Bodies are found, the wife (along with everyone else who reads the news) finds out he went with mistress. His friends then say he often brought mistress on group camping trips.

Was that in Australia?

ShakeUpYourTiredEyes · 03/02/2025 08:54

Happened to my nan. My grandad and her split when my mum was around 10 had been alonenfor decades. Met a man, he moved in, they were engaged he was apparently working away and had a heart attack. My nan travelled to the city he was in and so did his daughter who was from another city to my nan and the hospital. They were quite confused when my nan was there because his fiance was already there.
He passed so my nan never really got answers but going through his things turns out it wasn't the first time.
Never liked the man, just knew he was a dirty old man and was relieved when everyone else knew it.
