Trump's Theory about the Plane Crash

Just watched his press conference in absolute disbelief. He's just blamed the air traffic controllers as apparently under the Biden administration they recruited people into the role who weren't intellectually capable. He actually blames diversity criteria and basically box ticking.... 'hiring people with severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities' - that's a direct quote.

As someone with ASD, anxiety and depression who works in a high level, highly skilled role, I am angry on behalf of anyone like me.

The man is a dangerous liar.

He is starting quite deliberately using this horrible accident to start blaming sectors of society he doesn't like and encouraging his supporters to do the same. It started with the migrants...

Migrants are terrorists
Diversity programs have put stupid non-white people in jobs they don't deserve
Left wing government employees have been invited to retire.

It's really hard to accept, but we have to realise that America is fast turning into a fascist state. And Trump is not a lone madman. He is supported by the republican party and the 30%+ who voted for him and think he's marvellous.

I agree, it is really worrying. The situation is ever more reminiscent of the Pastor Niemoller poem:

First they came for the migrants, and I did not speak out because I was not a migrant.
Then they came for the Mexicans, and I did not speak out, because I was not a Mexican.
Then they came for the disabled, and I did not speak out, because I was not disabled.

Who's next? My money's on Moslems, closely followed by other religious minorities, closely followed by black people and women.

"Me too. I switch it off though, or fast forward through items I find unpleasant or upsetting. There are world leaders (lots of them!) guilty of far worse than verbals (FAR worse) who barely merit a mention on MN? I'm of the opinion that the dialogue around Trump is media induced hysteria 🙂"

@SassK nailed it 🙌🏻

The trouble is, you can't just dismiss it when the evidence is there for all to see because he puts himself in front of TV cameras when he comes up with this rubbish.

StrikeAlways · 30/01/2025 23:53

Surely his comment about “severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities” is just him projecting?

He is clearly stupid and very disturbed!

Afraidofhimrightnow · 30/01/2025 23:54

Sky news have a really clear description with a map of what may have happened (not why). It seems to suggest that ATC failed to clarify which plane the Hawk pilot had visual of as there were multiple in field of vision and ATC and the pilot both assumed they were talking about the same plane.

I think he’s right. We should not be hiring people in the name of diversity criteria. We should be hiring the best and most capable person for the job, regardless of sex, race etc.

How do you account for the fact that these policies were in place throughout the last Trump administration without apparently causing any problems?

Media induced hysteria....that's ridiculous and hilarious.
Trump thrives on making the headlines...lives for it...thrives on it...and wallows in it....as today reflects he uses the media for his own agenda mostly by lying or being extreme. Eg saying that today's accident is due to DEI.

When Fauci had to challenge him during covid at a press conference in front of trump Fauci said that all trump could talk about was the viewing figures...no concern about the misinformation he had been spouting or the effect this would have. Trump has now removed the protection that was afforded Fauci due to death threats.

Trump is a narcissistic bully the most dangerous part is that he is proud if it and broadcasts it, nothing that hasn't been instigated or manufactured by anyone but himself.

Afraidofhimrightnow · 30/01/2025 23:58

But also potentially really restricted field of vision depending on factors such as what night vision equipment was being used, whether someone responsible to looking out for planes was sat to the left or right etc on the Hawk and the task load (how much multitasking) both pilots were doing simultaneously.

So these people have been employed since his inauguration a week ago? Okaaaay….

It was clearly a facetious comment alluding to the astounding stupidity of a nation voting Trump into power! 🙄 I guess you’re not familiar with the British sense of humour!

Sure

There is the narritive around TG women specifically participating in female sports. This is objectively a concern for the safety of women, and there is still currently no evidence to demostrate that TG women don't have an advantage, and they have been included because for some reason taking time to find out if it is safe of fair to include them.

There is also alot of concern about schools socially transitioning children without their parents knowledge. This even made it in the new SATC reboot. The extreme leftist have behaved horrifically by saying if this isn't allowed to happen that children will die. I saw AOC speaking about this and it was the same language and tone as all the right wing extremists talking about immigration, it was disgusting.

I say all this as someone who isn't particulally political, but leans more towards the left in general. I believe we should work to being inclusive but when that inclusion comes at the expense of safety of others then we can say no, you are not entiteled to your dream.

I’m as gender critical as they come, and I agree with your comments re TW in women’s sport and transitioning children. However that’s not really the point.

Much as I vehemently disagree with the Democrats’ policies on gender identity, Biden and Kamala Harris aren’t “extreme” left wing. The Democrats are left wing, but they’re a very long way from having an extreme left stance.

That was one of the reasons that Bernie allegedly failed to win the Dem nomination - he was too far to the left. And I don’t think even Bernie is “extreme” left wing.

The US haven’t had anyone with an “extreme left” ideology in power, but what you have now - aided and abetted by Musk - is rapidly approaching extreme right wing.

Lilifer · 31/01/2025 00:02

@notimagain thanks for explaining that, it makes sense but still think it's mad that radar doesn't work at low altitude, and that they're fully reliant on their own eyesight and ATC's commands 😔

Liveandletlive18 · 31/01/2025 00:05

I 100% agree with people being employed & treated fairly regardless of race, religion, disability, sexuality etc.I don't agree with choosing to employ someone just because they have a known diversity from the so called norm & employers are required to fulfil a quota.Everyone should be treated equally & employed purely on merit & capability regardless of their status in life.

That’s quite possibly a factor and it’s one flaw in using visual separation at night, where the controllers may well try to discriminate between traffic using aircraft type (as the controller did last night) and all the pilots can see is various sets of lights…

So if they can only see lights then communicating about aircraft type is totally meaningless information in the dark? It needs to be visually discernable information such as the plane at your 10 o clock?

No but you're missing the point.

Policies like these are causing problems because they are objectively incorrect, but people have felt bullied into accepting them for the sake of "inclusion". Like I said I am left leaning, but even I have agreeing with some actual "extreme" right wing people on this issue.

It makes it very easy for someone like Trump, who uses only rage to engage to "show" that "left" is untrustworthy and "out to get you and your children". He then says daft shit like they are "eating the cats and dogs" to appeal to that very basic fear of stranger danger that we all have. They guy is great at a catchy turn of phrase. This makes people turn on each other and not of the real source of strife which is the oligarchs etc.

Sadly, the only bright spark that showed people who were "left" and "right" was the murder of the healthcare CEO. Ben Shapiro's comments section was very enlightening and demonstrated that most people regardless of their political affiliations are all experiencing the same problems.

Bunny44 · 31/01/2025 00:17

@MinnieBalloon the point of diversity training and recruitment is not to recruit people less able to do the job, it's actually the opposite.

The idea is that, since it's mainly white able bodied men in decision making roles they tended to hire people like themselves, regardless if they were actually best qualified. Diversity training is supposed to encourage employers and employees to overcome inherent natural biases which generally led to worse outcomes for companies and unfair promotion of one group of people who happened to look like the in-situ leaders. It's generally well demonstrated that women tend to be better qualified than men in the same roles due to biases because they are inherently given less opportunities.

But there are still those who stand on their soap box, like Trump, and claim undeserving people are getting jobs as a result of these policies... Couldn't be more ironic coming from him.

The American people chose trump, so yes...

The majority did not. It’s a freakin nightmare for all of us… he’s hit a new low today but it’s not surprising. He’s never taken responsibility for anything so why would he start now? Also he just cut funding to the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) so he wouldn’t want people looking into that.

Yes…pretty much, but even the idea of using the clock code isn’t foolproof - would the controller know exactly where the helicopters twelve o’clock was, especially if it was turning…giving range information is not great either (impossible to judge at night).

The controller being solo won’t have helped because they will have been juggling talking to the helicopter with possibly talking to other traffic, so no time for long winded explanations or Q&As..TBH it sounded like a fairly standard ask of something like “are you visual with the CRJ…”….

Of course we need to be careful about thinking this starts to put the blame back on the controller….the helicopter crew would have been entirely in their rights to decline the visual clearance if they had doubts about what they were seeing…

Do you think people with "severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities" should be air traffic controllers?

I would have guessed that people with such severe problems would not become president of the USA but the American people seem open to it.

(Is Trump saying that he is in the wrong job?)

As an American in that majority, I can say that the only thing he's good at is finding new lows to hit every day, sometimes several a day. It's going to be a looooong few years.

The reason we have Trump is why DEI is so important. America would rather have a mediocre (and I'm being kind) white man over a woman of colour.

Not true. They didn’t choose Harris, not because she was a woman of colour, but because she was pretty useless and incompetent. Anyone who saw her or listened to her campaign in the lead up to the vote could see she was totally out of her depth.

OK thanks I see what you mean. Seems like a really challenging environment for all of the pilots and ATC to be honest. Surely better to simply avoid flight plans with multiple aircraft at the same altitude at night? I interpreted the sky broadcaster's explanation as saying the flight plans would have been agreed months in advance so it must be typical to have so many planes and helicopters around.

Compared to the man who danced onstage for 45 minutes like some kind of deranged marionette, raved about Arnold Palmer's dick and lied about immigrants eating cats and dogs? Sure, sure.

No, I’m not missing the point. I broadly agree with you on most of what you’ve said, although I wouldn’t be giving Shapiro the time of day.

Lots of left-leaning women have found themselves in a predicament, in the U.K. as well as the US. Our safety and rights have been compromised under the guise of inclusion by the left and the only parties offering any kind of fact based policies are on the right. The issue with that is that their reasons for not wanting inclusion are shady and many of their policies harm women in different ways eg/ reproductive healthcare for women under Trump, removal of DEI which largely benefitted women, etc.

I agree Trump engages in rage politics and his aim is division not unity. He’s currently hell bent on revenge and seems to care even less about the sanctity of law this time around.

The point I was making is that the Democrats aren’t a “far” left party which is what you said. Left? Yes. Absolutely not far left though. A very way long from that, in fact.

I don’t think their insistence on gender ideology is the only reason they lost but I think it certainly played a part.

It’s mad though really. Trump is up there making wild claims with absolutely no basis in fact and everyone* just shrugs. I don’t know how he gets away with such blatant and baseless lies when the Democrats were hung out to dry partially based on their refusal to prioritise biological reality.

*when I say everyone, I mean Trump-ers, Republicans, and a large section of the media.

Genuinely can’t imagine how shit it must be for you with him as your president.

I think Trump transcends politics because he’s such a vile, corrupt individual. It’s not about having a party in charge whose policies you don’t agree with - it’s about a lawless toddler trampling over your whole constitution to satisfy his own personal needs.

I haven’t been able to escape seeing his twatty fucking face on my TV and I’m in the U.K.

I just hope most of Project2025 doesn’t come to fruition because there have been whispers about presidents being able to run for more than two terms or even scrapping elections entirely 😳
