What trend or fashion will you never buy into?

For me, it has to be thongs, bodies that fasten with those tiny poppers underneath, and false eyelashes.

Think style and class, and you may come up with your own ideas.🤔

These women are all stylish and classy and all over 60. Whether they are wearing bras or not.

They look great, absolutely, and their dresses have structured tops, and then there is....

Ooops, it didn't post.

Tbh I don't wear make up, I rarely get my eyebrows done and I've bitten my nails down to the quick since I was a child. I wear a "uniform" of jeans and t-shirt/jumper. I might wear a dress or "snazzy" trousers if I go somewhere that requires a bit of dressing up. So I don't participate in much of what is "current" anyway 😂.

My daughter has a tattoo and I'm considering a (small) one though.

I don't think misogyny is particularly classy or stylish - it's obviously subjective.

Odd how some love to put labels on people, especially when it comes to women making valid comments about women.
Gravity takes it toll, it's nature, and unless you have surgery to correct it, boobs droop.

My opinion is they look better covered (or in a very structured dress) on older women.
If you want to argue the toss and name call....go ahead, and live in your dream world. 😉

I don’t really understand the brushed up eyebrows trend. Eyebrow hairs aren’t meant to be vertical. Why are there even eyebrow trends at all?! Surely just have what suits your face and stick with it. Men don’t change their eyebrows every 5-10 years.

I'm not name calling, I'm calling out your misogyny. Your opinions are valid in your opinion, in mine they're snide and judgemental.

I'm not interested in what you think 'aging women' should or shouldn't wear or how they should present their 'saggy' bodies.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that you were the arbiter of class. Class isn't just about how you dress - look it up.

Misogynistic, snide, judgmental?? Sounds like you are name-calling to me.

If you are not interested in my opinion, why are you so triggered?
I'm sorry if I have hit a nerve, however I stand by what I said.

Pointing out misogyny and ageism isn't name calling. Just like calling out racism or ableism isn't name calling. Have you heard of darvo?

Saphire123 · 08/02/2025 23:34

BadSil · 08/02/2025 14:48

These aren't trends though. There is no trend or fashion for women over 60 not wearing bras or wearing low cut tops. It doesn't exist. So doesn't belong in this thread. If you want to be misogynistic and ageist then own.

You mentioned 60, I didn't.
You think it's not trendy or fashionable for older women to wear revealing clothes?
You can't go out much.😁

And this is the exact thread where my comment belongs.

It's not "a trend" for older women to be wearing no bra. As in there is no movement of change from older women wearing a bra to older women not wearing a bra. That's what a trend is... a directional pattern in which something is developing or changing. You seem to be a bit confused about what the word "trend" means. I fact most sources are showing an increase in the sale of bras in the UK in recent years. So unless people are buying bras to provide hammocks for their hamsters I think I'm correct in asserting that going braless is not a "trend".

NovemberMorn · 09/02/2025 14:45

Badsil, you have turned a fun thread into an argumentative boring one , Well done.🙄

We are not talking about 'movements'...we are talking about trends/fashions, we would not buy into
I see quite a lot of 'older women' (is this what has triggered you?) going braless now, if you haven't ...so what?

I don't care. I'll call out bullshit misogyny whenever I see it even if it's pretending to be light-hearted. You named two real women and claimed that older women shouldn't go braless or wear certain clothes. When it was suggested it was a shit thing to do you doubled down and went all darvo.

I clicked on your thread cos I'm not above a bit of trend bashing (would like to burn every pair of skinny jeans). But sadly YOU turned a fun thread into a boring one by bashing other women.

I'm not sorry.

And thick dark caterpillar eyebrows suit no-one.
Back in the day the craze was to overpluck eyebrows, women could end up with hardly any brows because the hairs didn't grow back properly.

Meadowfinch · 09/02/2025 23:59

Tattoos
BBL
Botox
Lip fillers
Body piercings
Those things that open up vast holes in the ear lobes and make me feel slightly queasy.

Regarding faces, I think that your eyes are the main point of interest, followed by your mouth. So, if your teeth are such a dazzling shade of white that they outshine your eyes, or your face is dominated by your hi-vis brows, you’ve got the balance wrong IMO.

You mention a good one.
Unnaturally white teeth, they look so false...hopefully it'll be a short lived fad.

Me too, they are revolting.
Recently in a restaurant, the waiter who served us bent forwards to take the order, he had big round earings in the lobe, I could actually see the wall behind him through the hole.
It totally turned my stomach.😬

I once spent a whole Gary Numan gig watching him through a guy's big ear stretcher! (I am a short arse, the venue was rammed and that was the only way I could see the stage!)

I will never wear false eyelashes, get fake tan, get Turkey Teeth or wear false nails.
Half these nails these days look ridiculous and literally look like what they are - bits of plastic glued on to the ends of people's fingers!
Some are nicely done and at least attempt to look natural, but most are horrific!

Doitrightnow · 10/02/2025 00:41

White pulled up sports socks and sliders. It's so grim. It looks awful even on beautiful young people.

Skinny jeans, leggings - basically anything skin tight on the bottom half. It makes everyone look like Max Wall.

People frantically googling Max Wall now!

Saphire123 · 12/02/2025 01:01

Very wide lacy collars seem to be fashionable at the moment.
On the hanger they look lovely. I tried one such blouse on recently, I looked like a downstairs maid.
The idea is nice, the reality, it's maybe one fashion I will give a miss.

ooooohnoooooo · 12/02/2025 09:03

Morning all. So good to know I'm not on my own, thank you.

So, recurring themes

Things being burned down in suspicious circumstances ( unscrupulous owners😡)
Terrorism 🥺
Rubbish redevelopments (planning cock ups and backhanders)
Flats, flats and more flats
Luxury houses

I think it would haunt me if I'd been in the world trade centre.

@mbosnz that sounds terrible. I'm sorry about your friend.

I saw a fascinating documentary once about Covent Garden in London (now a major tourist spot ). Council tried to demolish it in the 60s during a blitz on classic wonderful old buildings that was en vogue at the time, Local ragtag bunch of people grouped together and saved it. Yay!

I did also like the story of the developer who wanted to demolish an old pub, was refused and then it 'accidentally' fell down during renovations. He was prosecuted and had to rebuild it brick for brick in it original state 😂😂😂😂😂

Keep em coming
