Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 19:21

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

People Back Driver Who Refused To Let Plus-Size Woman In His Car As She Sues Lyft: “Common Sense”

“I've been in cars smaller than that ... It hurt my feelings,” said the woman after the Lyft driver refused to let her enter his Mercedes-Benz.

If I thought she was being genuine, I'd feel for her and I disagree with the name-calling on this thread. She is not an elephant, a heffer, or a that. She is a person and deserves to be treated as such, however, I do think she has deliberately set up this situation for attention.

It's a common thing in the Health at Every Size cult. They expect the world to change for them instead of accepting they are outside of the norm and as such will not be able to do everything a person within the norm would be able to do. (not to mention the damage to their health).

Society is getting bigger and some services should change to accommodate that to ensure people can be treated with compassion and dignity when needed (eg medical services, funeral services, etc) but once you no longer safely fit into a car or can walk down a hotel hallway comfortably you have got to accept the issue is not the car or the hotel...

From the driver's POV not only does he have to worry about his car and the strain on the suspension but also her safety. Is she mobile enough to safely get in and out without injuring herself? Does the seatbelt fit? Can she fit onto the seat in a safe way?

Cars are not built to accommodate people of that size.

I think you’re right.

Maybe the seat would break.
Or the suspension springs collapse.
Potentially end up like a circus car where all the wheels and doors fall off at the same time.

@Frequency There is only one poster being consistently rude on this thread, and being really goady, and many of their posts have been deleted. You have mentioned lots of insults yes, but they have all been from ONE poster.

But yeah I agree that this woman HAS done this for attention, and publicity, and it has backfired spectacularly.

And they should not be. She’s 222kg. Christ. Can you seriously say we should change society to accommodate that size?!!!?

I think my comment is being misinterpreted 😩😩😩

I don't think he should've refused her entry! If she wore black, she'd look smaller and like a lot of Americans. Her outfit makes her look bigger as well

There are lots of big Americans, I dont think that they deserve to be picked on

I think the driver saw an opportunity to pick on someone and took it. I don't think she would've harmed his car, but i imagine she wouldn't have been able to use the seat belt

Why shes going public with this I don't know tbh but i don't think it's okay to discriminate against someone - unless she literally couldn't fit in the car, she shouldn't have been refused

I think you are seriously underestimating how heavy this lady is. There aren’t lots of Americans this big. Only 5% of American women are over 120kgs, which is still quite a weight. My male DP is a little lighter than that and wears a men’s XXL to 3XL.

This lady is 220kg.

Firstly, please note my use of the word "often". I used that word because of course, not all obese people have trauma.

Being morbidly obese is disordered eating though, that is a fact, and there is typically an emotional cause of that, even if people don't realise. It doesn't have to be some big, dramatic event that triggers it.

Secondly, people have been downright nasty on this thread. That is what I am referring to.

Im not going to derail the thread about what is or isnt disordered eating but you can put on stones per year by eating a couple of hundred extra calories a day, without even noticing, a couple of lattes, a few more biscuits, a couple of slices of toast.

Over a couple or a few years that can easily equate to someone coming into the morbidly obese category

We're not all crying into pizza or binging on waffles or whatever to get into that category.

I disagree that people have been nasty (apart from one rather deranged poster who is being deleted)

Wearing black was not going to make her fit in the car.

500lbs can not be put in one spot. It would wreck his car.

He wasn't being a jerk.

As you get heavier your body uses more calories. A few hundred extra calories a day would make you put on weight for a bit but then it would stabilise. Sumo wrestlers eat something like 5,000-10,000 calories per day and nap after meals to try to encourage the laying down of fat and none of the current wrestlers are as heavy as her. This doesn’t happen because of a few extra biscuits.

A few hundred extra calories than you need. Not rocket science.

Im not sure people really know how much you need to be overweight to fall into the morbidly obese category, ie not as much as people think

500lbs is quarter of a tonne..
Quarter of a tonne!!
Seriously, let that sink in.

Especially if standing on sand or maybe a boggy field or something.
Actually probably best just sticking to hard paved areas.

I understand that. What I’m saying is as you get bigger the number of calories you need increases so you’d have to keep adding more and more calories to your daily diet to keep getting heavier and heavier. To get to 220kg you have to be eating several thousand more calories per day than the average person, not hundreds.

Yes I know that!

I wasnt specifically talking about her, I answered someone who quoted people being morbidly obsese only get that way by 'disordered eating', a term too easily thrown around, in my case that would be about being 3 or 4 stone overweight. Thats all, easily done over a couple of years unfortunately in our food climate..

Do you know that over eating is not the only reason for being obese or morbid obese? That there are illnesses that can cause morbid obesity?

Been looking into this woman a bit, and it seems like she's a self professed rapper. She's got lots of posey pictures all over the place. I think she is just absolutely desperate for attention and publicity. Must be a rubbish music star if she's got to sell this kind of story for attention. And yes, like most people, I'm 100% on the driver's side.

Theres a brilliant episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm that is a bit like this to be honest, with some awful diva who has no talent what so ever but is absolutely entitled. Has an 'assistance dog' that is overweight and Larry's friend is accused by her of 'fat shaming' the dog. Hilarious

It is easier than you think to add a few thousand calories to your daily diet without realising, especially if you've never tracked calories and don't quite understand how calorie-dense some foods are.

Add some butter and cream to your porridge on a morning and have a Starbucks on the way to work or have a takeout breakfast eg McMuffin and hash brown or Starbucks breakfast wrap.

Salad with dressing, cheese, and mayo for lunch.

Creamy pasta dinner and a typical dessert.

That could easily take you over your maintenance by a whole day's worth of calories without any extra snacks or eating massive portions. Add in a couple of snacks per week and a Saturday night bottle of wine and takeaway and you're overeating by almost triple what an average woman needs to maintain a healthy weight.

Absolutely easy and in my case all home cooked food, I love butter and cream, nuts, cheese, dried fruits, things drenched in olive oil. Plus we love eating out.

Why? So you could have a chat about how many poor people you've had fired?

Well she is larger than most

It’s his livelihood so of course he wants to protect he car from someone the size of a small car siting in it
