A lyft driver refuses a plus size woman in his car

Soubriquet · 29/01/2025 19:21

I feel sorry for him. He’s going to lose his job at this rate, as management seem to be seeking her out to apologise.

Could he have worded it better? Absolutely.

Is she right to demand to ride in his car when he says she won’t fit and will damage his car? No!

Theres XL lyft for this exact reason

Of course it's not OK to dehumanize obese people. But I wouldn't let her in my car. Paid or not.
She knows she is very fat and is using that for her own gain. She needs to be realistic. The poor driver will loose his livelihood.

This. ^

SabreIsMyFave · 29/01/2025 21:26

Takoneko · 29/01/2025 21:18

I think it’s also worth saying that the driver didn’t film her without consent and post it on the internet to try to whip up a frenzy against her. She filmed him and then posted it all over the internet, calling him a motherfucker, in an attempt to damage his livelihood.

If he’d filmed her and then posted it to the internet saying “this MF tried to get in my car” I’d be 100% on her side.

Exactly. She's a nasty piece of work, who (as has been said,) has invited this publicity and all the comments about her size. Be careful what you wish for. Wink

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 29/01/2025 21:26

I stand by my comment, I've got no idea how it's rude. I don't dislike big people at all, big people are everywhere and deserve to exist and go about their lives

Her outfit makes her look bigger than if she was wearing black

EasterIssland · 29/01/2025 21:19

Nobody has said this. What we have pointed out is fhat she needs to be respected as much as someone that weights 10 or 20’st. It’s her weight and her health so it should only concern her. Nobody else.

Not when it takes up more medical time by being obese. It’s a disorder. It’s not OK

Takoneko · 29/01/2025 21:28

I don’t think the driver did anything wrong but some of the comments on here are vile.

I think she’s been really unfair on this driver and I hate the way people now are constantly being filmed and posted on the internet while just trying to do their jobs.

It’s possible to disagree with what she’s done without all the horrible name calling though. Some people just seem be itching for any excuse to spew their bile.

Exactly. She's after a pay day.

A warning again that this is a political thread.

soupyspoon · 29/01/2025 21:16

Firstly not everyone is morbidly obese due to disordered eating from trauma or emotional difficulties, I wasnt. I love my food and I like eating too much, the vast majority of people who are eating too much do so because of cheap food and UPF availability

America is an example of that, there arent more traumatised people there than anywhere else

However that is somewhat irrelevant to the discussion. No one lacks compassion toward her as a general human being, no more or less compassion than the bloke next door or the woman walking past on the street.

People are querying her, challenging her, disapproving of her (if you like) due to her sense of entitlement, not her weight per se, she is a CF of the highest order.

Thats what people have issue with, not her as an overweight person per se.

Firstly, please note my use of the word "often". I used that word because of course, not all obese people have trauma.

Being morbidly obese is disordered eating though, that is a fact, and there is typically an emotional cause of that, even if people don't realise. It doesn't have to be some big, dramatic event that triggers it.

Secondly, people have been downright nasty on this thread. That is what I am referring to.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 29/01/2025 21:31

I didn't read all the comments and no it's not ok to be cruel.

She made this public though.

She is morbidly obese. He's allowed to set a boundary and protect his property.

I don't know why infantilising obese people by treating them like children is the answer?

She's old enough to understand her actions have consequences.

She wanted this public because she sees herself as the victim.

Most people disagree.

You weren't rude. Hardly anyone has been rude about obese people on this thread. All I have seen (mostly) is opinions, and cold hard facts. Several people are clearly taking it very personally for some reason, and being really salty, and quite angry. I think I can guess why. I won't say though.

Basically - according to a few posters on here - if you say something someone doesn't like, you're being 'nasty' and 'rude.' Ludicrous. Peoples different opinions and views are not nasty and rude because YOU don't like them! Wink

RobertaFirmino · 29/01/2025 21:34

It's a matter of simple physics really, we can't argue with scientific facts.

There's no need to be unkind though.

Hoover2025 · 29/01/2025 21:34

To put this in context. 35 stone is 222kg

Its 16.5 large bags of Miracle grow compost.

Thats absolutely insane.

I wouldn’t even load that in my new 4x4 even if it was distributed. Max I would probably do is 6 bags spread evenly over the boot. 4 in back seat and two passenger side. Thats 12!

Or in other comparison. Its one and a half solid stone baths!
https://www.lussostone.com/stone-resin-baths-c1/picasso-freestanding-stone-bath-1780mm-p27 140kg

We had this taken upstairs manually. Took 5 strong men a lot of struggle. I thought the stairs were going to collapse.

Picasso Freestanding Stone Bath 1780mm

Designed in Britain, the Picasso Freestanding Bath is captivating in every sense with its contemporary, symmetrical silhouette and luxurious composite stone material. The epitome of modern grandeur, this freestanding bath is crafted from a solid piece...

It’s an insane weight. I’m 57kg and 6 foot 2. She is 222kg. I cannot comprehend anyone justifying this blight on the health system.

albapunk · 29/01/2025 21:40

Costcolover · 29/01/2025 21:15

And this friend announced how much she weighed, did she?! No, course she didn't. You presumed that's what she weighed 🙄 Probably miles off ffs

I know her weight as we actually joined Slimming World together. Why is it unusual to know how much someone weighs? It's not a taboo subject for everyone.

Frequency · 29/01/2025 21:41

If I thought she was being genuine, I'd feel for her and I disagree with the name-calling on this thread. She is not an elephant, a heffer, or a that. She is a person and deserves to be treated as such, however, I do think she has deliberately set up this situation for attention.

It's a common thing in the Health at Every Size cult. They expect the world to change for them instead of accepting they are outside of the norm and as such will not be able to do everything a person within the norm would be able to do. (not to mention the damage to their health).

Society is getting bigger and some services should change to accommodate that to ensure people can be treated with compassion and dignity when needed (eg medical services, funeral services, etc) but once you no longer safely fit into a car or can walk down a hotel hallway comfortably you have got to accept the issue is not the car or the hotel...

From the driver's POV not only does he have to worry about his car and the strain on the suspension but also her safety. Is she mobile enough to safely get in and out without injuring herself? Does the seatbelt fit? Can she fit onto the seat in a safe way?

Cars are not built to accommodate people of that size.

Exactly.
I don’t dislike fat people.
But I would dislike a fat person in my car and refuse them.

Why are people merging these two sentiments into one?

werideatdawnn · 29/01/2025 21:46

Who cares. In general. She’s crying about it isn’t she. Shame on her for being an obese idiot who WILL be taking something away from someone who needs it, and cries when it doesn’t go her way.

Why would the driver have to stay with her whilst waiting on an other one?

She's morbidly obese, not disabled or vulnerable.

Decency.

I think my comment is being misinterpreted 😩😩😩

I don't think he should've refused her entry! If she wore black, she'd look smaller and like a lot of Americans. Her outfit makes her look bigger as well

There are lots of big Americans, I dont think that they deserve to be picked on

I think the driver saw an opportunity to pick on someone and took it. I don't think she would've harmed his car, but i imagine she wouldn't have been able to use the seat belt

Why shes going public with this I don't know tbh but i don't think it's okay to discriminate against someone - unless she literally couldn't fit in the car, she shouldn't have been refused
