Steve Bannon has warned the president and his “best buddy” Elon Musk to tread carefully with certain federal government cuts or risk infuriating their supporters.
He warned that many of Trump’s MAGA supporters rely heavily on Medicaid, a health subsidy for low-income Americans,

Bannon has just dodged jail by pleading guilty to defrauding donors to his We Build the Wall scheme.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars of ordinary people's money, diverted to Bannon's pals. I think we predicted on here a lot of these fundraisers would end up like this.

Just wait til they learn about which States raise and receive most in federal taxes....

Like here then north Wales raises the most in taxes with business, hospitality, stamp duty Etc yet receives the lowest in council tax relief . We're being milked to prop up labour strongholds. Nothing new.

Oh, GOP congresspeople already know. They are behind the scenes desperately trying to persuade team Trump to swerve their little fiefdoms

E.g. Katie Britt (AL) has been ordering extra underwear as the federal cuts make it clear that is the end of the University of Alabama - the states biggest employer

https://www.apr.org/news/2025-02-14/as-doge-hammers-away-at-the-us-government-republicans-stir-with-quiet-objections

In reference to the Vance moves upthead. The fact that someone outside the US can find out this sort of news easier than someone in Alabama should demonstrate what his strategy here is.

DOGE slash and burn but need rational argument why in theory it's good but there are exceptions so listen to our reasoning why xyz is required.

There's been so much unaccountability, they need to make a case why some people are needed..

I was baffled by defunding the police a few years ago. It would be disastrous in the UK so I couldn't imagine it working in the USA

TokyoSushi · 15/02/2025 14:23

I did wonder this morning if the European leaders and others are going to stop tolerating Trump much sooner than he thinks and that his King of The World antics might be given short shrift fairly sharpish?

What if a lot of influential people collective told him no?

Who? What? Who's supposed to make a rational argument that in theory it's good? Who's supposed to provide reasoning why xyz is required? Who's 'they' that needs to make a case? Who are they meant to make it to, in what format? Can you provide me with some instances of unaccountability? Reliably sourced, please? Not assertions on X.

Defund the Police was a terrible name for some very sound ideas with lots of research behind them. Sometimes, @justasking111, it pays to do a little research and reading before grabbing onto an opinion.

European interests will be “represented” at the talks but they won’t be allowed in person, Kellogg says.

Gathering some bits about the resignations by prosecutors who have refused to obey the Trump administration's order to drop the prosecution of NYC mayor, Democrat Eric Adams.

Adams is indicted on charges of bribery and corruption, including bribery by foreign parties.

Prosecutors ask to drop corruption case against NYC Mayor Eric Adams
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn93rnnjw4zo
The Department of Justice has filed a motion to dismiss its corruption case against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the latest move in a row between the Trump administration and career US attorneys.
[...]
But several Department of Justice employees, including the top prosecutor in Manhattan, Danielle Sassoon, viewed the order to drop the case as politically motivated interference in the independent judicial system.
[...]
In Sassoon's resignation letter, she also said Adams' lawyers had met justice department officials and asked for a "quid pro quo", saying the New York City mayor could help enforce Trump's immigration policies if the case against him was dismissed.

Danielle Sassoon is strongly conservative.

Who is Danielle Sassoon, prosecutor who quit in protest from Trump justice department?

“Any assistant U.S. attorney would know that our laws and traditions do not allow using the prosecutorial power to influence other citizens, much less elected officials, in this way,” Scotten told Bove, who is President Donald Trump’s former personal attorney.

My point is, that's not what defund the police was about. Again, it's really worthwhile educating yourself before forming an opinion.

🤔

Unlike the UK, the US political system is rather over rigid. There is little provision for anything to happen out of cycle. That means that - regardless of events - nothing can be done politically until the midterms. That's just under 2 years away. By then the coup will be complete and the prediction of Trump - who was admirably honest in his campaigning where it mattered - will be complete. No one will need to vote again.

If people are happy to queue up and fight each other to give up their rights, then persuading them that voting is a liberal plot that turns you gay will be a mere bagatelle.

"We don't want none of that there 'voting' that those Democrats get up to" says sher-iff Gaines, as he managed to screw his face into disgust despite the cigar that hung impossibly from his mouth accenting his lazy southern drawl.

"Now, why doncha folks pack up your little freakshow, and leave town nice and quiet like ? But doncha'all think we're unfriendly folks. Why, we'll even help you load your wagons and direct you to a nice vegan diner in the next state"

At this the snarl lifted and a sardonic grin appeared.

"Y'all got this wrong" he concluded as the friends sensing the menace comply and folded the tables. "Y'all think we need to learn about civil rights ? Well as you can see, we're a civil folk. And we sure are right"

With that he briefly tapped the brim of his hat and made it clear he would stay until they had gone.

Though the friends were afraid to discuss it as they drove, they knew their departure was not passing unnoticed.

(Apologies to decent writers everywhere 😎)

Form for suggesting people inform themselves so they can engage in reasoned conversation? True.

Look, if you want to go through life regurgitating ignorant tropes, it's your business. But would it hurt for you to actually understand what 'defund the police' (which as I said, was always a stupid name) really means?

I respect people I disagree with when there's some thought and effort behind their positions.

Remember AL is overwhelmingly Trumpist

But wait, in Trump's first term, wasn't Douglass an 'example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is being recognised more and more, I notice.'??

What happened?
