The clock is already ticking and he's an old man. Mid-terms: November 3, 2026

Thanks for new thread. Great title!

He won fair and square.

Do you think we don't know that? (Although it was very worrying when he actually said in his victory speech that Musk manipulated the voting machines.)

No Insurrection by the Democrats though, unlike MAGA in 2020

This is people’s livelihoods. Not funny.

But no one important, so that's OK.

He’s lost conspiracy theory twitter over the stargate AI announcement.

Except they would still vote for Trump again tomorrow.

Um, your news bulletin is a little on the late side. Do you have a larger point?

We have to respect democracy even if we don’t like the leaders it produces. Trump didn’t respect the results of the previous election but of course we’re better than him surely.

maxplanck · 23/01/2025 09:04

@derxa So why so gleeful ?

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2025 09:07

You must have somehow missed the peaceful and respectful handover derxa

BestIsWest · 23/01/2025 09:10

@derxa, Of course we must respect democracy. I understand that. I don’t understand why you posted the laughing emoji.

Couple of paragraphs from Heather Cox Richardson's letter yesterday. The rest is worth a read - details of the senseless destruction so far.

Trump’s decision to pardon or commute the sentences of all the January 6 rioters convicted of crimes for that day’s events, including those who attacked police officers, was a spur of the moment decision by Trump apparently designed to get the issue behind him quickly. “Trump just said: ‘F*ck it: Release ‘em all,’” an advisor recalled.

This one I don't get. Why?

Trump also fired the head of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), responsible for keeping the nation’s transportation systems safe. He also fired all the members of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, mandated by Congress after the 1988 bombing of PanAm flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, to review safety in airports and airlines.

The Trump admin has cancelled the panels that approve NIH grants, & is also banning scientists from communicating with the public, attending conferences, and hiring. NIH is the largest funder of biomedical research in the world. This will severely halt the development of many lifesaving treatments.

I wasn’t being gleeful. I just find it hilarious how wound up people on here get about Trump. I predict he won’t change much and of course will be gone in four years. Particularly distasteful are the routinely used insults such as ‘scrotus’.

purpleandpurple · 23/01/2025 09:25

Thanks for the thread.
I have had a break from all things politics since Dump won the election in Nov but I think it is time to get back into keeping an eye on the shit pile that he is going to (attempt to) turn the world into.

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2025 09:30

Personally I think pardoning thousands of people, some of whom were attacking law enforcement with metal bars, were tasering them, blinding police with sprays ..is bad.

That is a change surely? Subverting justice for those who attack just enables more of the same.
I read some statements from police officers, they were really shocking
But all this is hilarious? And calling him scrotus is worse.
Give me strength

And Trump hasn't even started

Who here isn't respecting the result? The man gets none. Do you generally respect adjudicated sex offenders (to name just one thing)? Grifters? Liars? People who are banned from ever running a charity?

I mean, if you'e as woefully uninformed as this, why bother posting? There are lots of threads on this site that don't require any degree of understanding or knowledge. If you want to join in, I'd suggest spending some time absorbing some actual news.

Yes, he really shies away from routine insults. You do realise that the man started an entire social media platform for insults. Maybe spend ten minutes researching a few of the things he's said?

Absolutely, they aren’t very sharp.

I just want to enjoy the likes of Naomi Wolf and HART getting screwed over for a bit.

We were just discussing that. No idea why? Someone somewhere along the chain felt it was eating into profits? Clueless on this one.

He's already changing the lives (not in a good way) of multiple US citizens and is withdrawing the country from important world health and security organisations. It's not just about him, it's also what the bigots, racists, grifters and con men/women that he's now enabled will do.

IIRC you have a farm @derxa? So you'll be OK with another outbreak of foot and mouth for eg if the US washes its hands of helping with global livestock health security?

Another segment from HCR's summary:
NBC News profiled the men who threw Nazi salutes, posted that they intended to start a civil war, vowed “there will be blood,” and called for the lynching of Democratic lawmakers. These men, who attacked police with bear spray, flag poles, and a metal whip and choked officers with their bare hands, are now back on the streets.
That means they are also headed home to their communities. Jackson Reffitt, who reported his father Guy’s participation in the January 6 riot and was a key witness against him, told reporters he fears for his life now that his father is free. Jackson recorded his father’s threat against talking to the authorities. “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor,” his father said, “and traitors get shot.” “I’m honestly flabbergasted that we've gotten to this point," Jackson told CNN. “I’m terrified. I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

Erica L. Green reported for the New York Times that Trump’s team has threatened federal employees with “adverse consequences” if they refuse to turn in colleagues who “defy orders to purge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from their agencies.” Civil rights lawyer Sherrilyn Ifill commented: “Can’t wait until these guys have to define in court a ‘DEI hire’ and ‘DEI employees.’"

Trump’s team has told the staff at Department of Health and Human Services—including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH)—to stop issuing health advisories, scientific reports, and updates to their websites and social media posts. Lena H. Sun, Dan Diamond, and Rachel Roubein of the Washington Post report that the CDC was expected this week to publish reports on the avian influenza virus, which has shut down Georgia’s poultry industry.

How is it insulting by putting the facts straight ?
And it’s a bit erratic to be criticising Starmer who hasn’t broken the law but defending Trump who’s a convicted felon.

I don’t defend Trump. And when did we start using the word ‘felon’ instead of ‘criminal’

user22446688 · 23/01/2025 10:23

Yes, I am, and frankly, you deserve it. People here are obviously worried and very upset, being able to discuss that is essentially the point of this thread, and you feel the need to come on and call it 'hilarious' and post this,

Well done Donald 🤣

Which is basically the entire m/o of MAGA. Making people upset, the cruelty - doesn't matter at whom it's directed - is the entire point.

Additionally, if your position is that he won't change much, it's a fact, not an opinion, that you're uniformed, at best.
