The clock is already ticking and he's an old man. Mid-terms: November 3, 2026

@SerendipityJane I was idly wondering the other day whether he would try to form some sort of Praetorian guard, essentially a force that would swear an oath to the President, rather than to the Constitution.

"The embarrassing thing for the US, is that it's political system was explicitly and specifically designed to prevent that happening. As usual a bunch of academics dared to presume they could outwit the ingenuity of tyranny."

The checks and balances are great on paper, but toothless in the face of a tyrant. He can ignore court rulings on EOs etc with impunity and nothing will happen. Despite the many constitutional shortcomings of the UK, I'm glad we have a head of government who is just an ordinary citizen rather than some sort of pseudo-monarch.

He already has. It's called the GOP

The Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America on Google maps in the US. The rest of the world still calls it the Gulf of Mexico.

That's how far gone the US is

🤣. I've just gone to have a look on Google maps. It says Gulf of Mexico with Gulf of America in brackets.
It's like placating a toddler with something nice isn't it.
He'll be moving onto the next thing soon

Isn't there a "report an error" button ? Pretty certain there used to be ....

user22446688 · 11/02/2025 20:54

In today's happy news, DD is in her last year of med school and volunteers at a clinic that provides healthcare to homeless teens. They've had their federal funding yanked and will close tomorrow. The cruelty is astonishing. People really are going to die.

@DuncinToffee We had those straws. God how I hated them! I clearly remember being hunched over the sink trying to suck enough soapy water in to clean them, but not so much I got it in my mouth.

Mark me down as one of the odd people who doesn't mind a paper straw 🤗

On who will form the Praetorian guard: things might come to a head if the legislature try to stop it and enforce the injunction on Musk

Bloody hell !!!

That John Dean !!! 😮

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2025 21:10

So cruel @user22446688 Angry

CaveMum · 11/02/2025 21:15

That’s awful @user22446688

I was listening to “Pod Save America” today, they were talking about a group that provides support to families with babies in NICU getting their funding pulled, alongside cancer research projects.

Eyesopenwideawake · 11/02/2025 21:19

The latest hateful rhetoric from that cunt and and his Israeli counterpart is signing the death penalty for thousands of innocent Gazan refugees.

There are no fucking words.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2025 22:53

FLAG. The Associated Press says the Trump White House gave them an ultimatum: Align its editorial standards with Trump's executive order on the "Gulf of America" or be barred from an event in the Oval Office.

This afternoon, an AP reporter was blocked from an executive order signing.

DuncinToffee · 11/02/2025 23:00

That was quite surreal, the eo signing, with Musk having his child there as some human shield and admitting that some things he says will be incorrect

I forgot, I thought the tories had scraped below the barrel. Is everyone in the white house insane?

The optical of this were insane. It made Trump look like a puppet. Why on earth would he agree to that staging?

Secondly, nothing and no one can stop Trump. Everyone is bowing to him, even on the international stage. I can't understand it.

tobee · 12/02/2025 01:32

Please can I ask 2 questions? (One might be easier to answer than the other)

  1. is there any limit to Trump's executive orders? Can he do as many and for as long as he wants throughout his presidency? And no one can stop them?

  2. is there any chance that other countries will push back on Trump and for that push back to be substantive and lasting? Trump is used to, and delights in, people standing against him because they always fold sooner or later

I think it's a power thing with Musk. He's saying he is all powerful he can lie as much as he wants and look I can even demean the president by having my toddler with me, that's how powerful I am

TokyoSushi · 12/02/2025 07:41

A more lighthearted question but he was next level orange with the King of Jordan yesterday, like absolutely glowing. However, the collars of his shirts are always dazzling white. So what is it? Make up? Fake tan? Too many carrots? Something else?

Bagpussnotbothered · 12/02/2025 07:47

Make up, I think. The contrast to his hands is startling.

Trump's administration feels more and more like what happened in Rome with Caligula. The emperor can do what he likes with a compliant and enfeebled Senate. It's only a matter of time before a Judge orders the White House to stop and Trump says "so what?"

For anyone else, the Marshals would enforce the law, but with Trump immune and in charge of the DOJ, there's no check on his power.

Looking abroad, he has turned the Ukraine war into a straightforward transaction: peace for 50 billion in rare earth minerals. I would be interested to know if that suggestion came from Ukraine or Russia.

I was reading a book about "How people's minds change" and one of the subjects was about leaving cults.

It took someone who was in a cult to be finally shocked about something that the cult did to get them to leave and to have a different perspective.

I wonder if that appearance with Musk will "shock" people in the cult.

JoshLymanSwagger · 12/02/2025 08:20

@TokyoSushi I suspect it's many, many clean shirts each day. Especially before any encounter with a camera.

I'd hate to be the one having to bleach the orange out of those collars...but he would find them extra starchy afterwards. Grin

Llttledrummergirl · 12/02/2025 08:21

Bigly starchy

Spandauer · 12/02/2025 08:26

I doubt most of the cult would even be aware that Musk was using the Oval Office as a crèche. Too busy polishing their racist agendas.

This may have been linked to earlier in the thread but it really does show how the DEI stuff is just a poorly designed cover for anti-black racism.

Trump and his administration/Musk are already ignoring court orders.

TokyoSushi · 12/02/2025 08:46

Oh yes, maybe it is loads of shirts!

Musk was giving me Dominic Cummings vibes yesterday with the casual clothes and general disrespect for the way things are usually done.

Doesn't like the double flush.

I mean, you couldn't make this up if you didn't know it was true - it reads like something out of the old children's comic strips, "Desperate Don", or someone. But the head of State of a First World Country? Seriously?
(I can't quote the screenshot in the OP just above for some reason.)

Spandauer · 12/02/2025 08:48

Doesn't like the double flush.

He is OBSESSED by taps, sinks and toilets. He was banging on about it in his last term.

I think he has a crisis with washing off the creosote on his face nightly.
