The clock is already ticking and he's an old man. Mid-terms: November 3, 2026

The immediate politicising of such a tragedy - hours after it happened and before any investigation - reveals the absolute worst of all politicians involved and their supporters.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2025 09:01

I saw a picture posted of the young skaters who died in the crash followed by the orange one's comments on visiting the crash site Angry

‘what site? The water? You want me to go swimming?’

Spandauer · 31/01/2025 09:17

Trump is doing exactly what he told us he would do, so we can't say we weren't warned. But seeing it play out in real time is almost beyond belief.

We know the media is only relaying edited, sane washed content to the masses. When will the Democrats pull someone out of the shadows to lead and be a voice challenging/calling out all this crap before the mid-term elections in 2026? The old guys are just fodder for Trump's hackneyed insults.

Apparently a number of democratic senators have written to Chuck Schumer telling him the party need to fight back more

We knew it would be bad, but this bad? No

countrygirl99 · 31/01/2025 08:44

@notonthestairs facts are for wimps apparently.

Indeed.

We have politicians who are openly telling us that "despite the facts, I am right" and that "the focus on facts clouds 'the wider issue'".

"You can prove anything with facts" - Stewart Lee (among others)

Efacsen · 31/01/2025 09:54

How long will the investigation take?

NTSB officials did not say on Thursday how long the investigation would take, but accident investigations often take between one and two years to complete.

The agency typically releases a preliminary report within a few weeks of the accident that includes a synopsis of information collected at the scene.

In May of 2024 Joe Biden signed a bill that provided funds to hire more air traffic controllers to remedy the shortage of such workers. In January of 2025 Trump fired the head of the FAA (because Musk had beef with him) and encouraged federal workers to resign.

He's just a despicable man. The damage he will do and is already doing, the pain he is causing is reprehensible.

I wake up every day hoping something catastrophic has happened to him. I'm not generally an angry person, but I can't stand even stand the site of the ogre, never mind listen to him 'speak.' He gives me rage.

CaveMum · 31/01/2025 10:11

I’m extremely worried for the mental health of the ATC personnel on duty that night, if anything should happen to them it will be on Trump’s head.

DH is ex-RAF and when he first joined up after being told his eyesight wasn’t good enough to be a pilot he started ATC training. He said it was the hardest thing he’d ever done, one of those things you either get or you don’t. He didn’t and after the first selection round he switched to training in Logistics. The attrition rate on these courses is incredibly high, I think he said something like only 20% of people who start it will actually make it to the end.

TRIPUS another good one this morning and worth a listen.

user22446688 · 31/01/2025 10:18

I'd like to recommend the first part of last night's Deadline White House, which is available on most podcast apps, for anyone looking for a good, compassionate analysis of what's going on around the crash.

My fear is that if the NTSB will be pressured to come up with a report that doesn't contradict the Orange One, and that anything that contradicts him will be suppressed.

@CaveMum. Yes, how awful for them. It certainly sounds, from early reports, that they were understaffed that night. Someone on the podcast I mentioned saying there would ideally be two ATC people involved, one for the military helicopter and one for the plane and it was just one.

All those children, just devastating.

Mittens67 · 31/01/2025 10:22

The crash investigators have already been told, publicly, what the result must be.
A poisoned chalice.
Should they have the integrity to be honest they will be targeted much like the air traffic controllers.
Given the way trump just has signalled that violence in his name is entirely welcomed by pardoning the capitol rioters, his enraged supporters pose a very real threat so anyone who does not go with the trump narrative is at risk of physical harm as well as “just” losing their job or abuse via social media.
Trump and his “fake news” has now come true because who can now believe the media when everyone is apparently either in his pocket or too scared to report the truth.
To turn tragedy into political gain whilst the dead are still being recovered takes my breath away and shows me even my worst fears about his complete psychopathy were understated.
It is like watching a living history lesson on the rise of Hitler.
I remember when I learned about that period for O level our teacher trying to explain how a collective mindset developed in germany scapegoating the jews and idolising hitler so that the resultant atrocities became acceptable whilst the rest of the world turned a blind eye to varying degrees so as to avoid conflict until it was very nearly too late for the entire world.

user22446688 · 31/01/2025 10:30

@Mittens67

Completely agree. But it's depressing how many people even on this site seem to be keen to gobble up his narrative.

If other countries can't trust US air safety, (or their insurers can't) then things will get interesting.

Those cows aren't going to milk themselves.
Rural red states will start to feel the loss of farm workers soon. (Maybe Musk can help out - pretty sure he's an expert on farming just like the 🍊💩)

Another Brexit parallel. If US farmers want to know where this ends ....

Yes fields of rotting strawberries, wilted daffodils etc but un-milked cows will suffer discomfort and risk mastitis

So not just waste but also avoidable animal welfare issues/ animal cruelty

Why do so many people on Mumsnet apparently not realise how instrumental DEI, albeit under other names, has been in the battle for equality for women?

Spandauer · 31/01/2025 12:54

Rewriting history before our very eyes.

(I know nothing of these things... but if you need to archive information from US government websites that may be targeted by Trump's administration this may help)

More Trump needlessly putting his oar in prejudicing a proper investigation

President Donald Trump said this morning that the military helicopter involved in the crash in Washington, DC, was flying too high at the time of the accident that killed 67 people.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:

The Blackhawk helicopter was flying too high, by a lot. It was far above the 200 foot limit. That’s not really too complicated to understand, is it???

The biggest obstacle women face in life is other women.

I re-read the book recently. It's bigly scarily prescient. Just the year was out. Hmm

Nice to see some proper Soviet level mind cleansing going on. It must be my age, but I remember when Americans were horrified by regimes in other countries doing similar.

But then a black man had the audacity to be elected president, followed by two women having even more, and we all collectively lost our minds.

The poor rescuers, and the families and the ATCs. It's just so sad.
