Tattle Life rebrand

Yelen · 21/01/2025 12:22

Crap forum Tattle Life has changed overnight into 8Cafe.

8Cafe

Hate Cafe

Geddit?!

Nothing says 'I have nothing to hide' quite like changing the whole name and domain of your website.

The man who hides behind this pathetic hate forum (who Olivia Attwood met in real life and described as ugly...exactly what you think a troll would look like) needs to be put in prison for what he has done.

His website has caused at least one suicide that I know of. If he is so proud of it, he should be out there in public giving interviews about it.

It's back, posting going on as normal.

A lot ended up there when Digital Spy closed their discussion forums and those folk possibly stay more on the media, film and general discussion threads rather than the influencer type discussion.

HelenAnderson · 23/01/2025 10:23

In my experience it isn't the posters who are hateful and nasty, it is the admin. I can tell you that they are not the nicey-nicey people they pretend to be in their posts.

Closing the whole forum because their relative got a threat? Lmao. They don't give a toss when TikTokers and small influencers get their whole family doxed and the non-famous family members get harrassed and threatened 24/7 for years. A situation which has ended in suicide for at least one. The sanctimonious hypocrisy is unreal.

Helen's pompous message this morning says it all really, the little regard she has for her minions. It isn't safe to be on that site.

WettyBite · 23/01/2025 10:26

I take it you weren’t here when the whole “Jefffrey-gate” happened and there was a data breach on MN, and loads of users had their emails and names leaked, police sent to one member’s house?

There’s also no doxxing allowed on Tattle.

Becca19962014 · 23/01/2025 11:07

I remember Jeffery-gate on MN.I also remember when people with disabilities were getting targeted and was one of many reasons I left.

Not had issue on tattle but then I’m on off topic forums except for one family who need to go; though that thread too is mostly supportive. People who have gone too far on there get warned and banned. I think it depends on if a thread has a mod posting on it as a user often as to how much exactly gets through the rules there. Honestly on that thread nothing does.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 23/01/2025 11:20

Tattle is just like any other group of people gathering together to talk about stuff. Some people are hilarious, really witty or funny. Some people are smart. Some people are dopey as fuck, or just weirdo obsessives. Some people are unpleasant or stupid. I would hate to have a tattle thread about me, however it’s not a god given right to put stuff on the internet and to only receive positive feedback about it. And so many influencers are genuinely problematic with the way they use their family life to sell stuff. They are selling their children’s privacy and it’s very sinister.

I don’t know why it causes so much hand wringing on MN of all places. This place is very similar in make up, just moderated slightly differently.

The books thread on tattle is lovely with some incredible recommendations.

rubiesthatigaveup · 23/01/2025 12:20

Hmm, I do think there is something in the makeup of the site that encourages quite unpleasant behaviour. Not being all holier than thou - I have an account and have posted on Tattle. In each case what I consider to be legitimate criticism/discussion re public figures. For example, I posted about an influencer I followed who promoted 'clean eating' for years only to pivot when that became unpopular and declare her old methods were so damaging, give her more of your money and she'd show you the right way.

There are many interesting discussions to be had re influencer culture, and it is good to have a space to have those discussions freely.

But to be honest, I find a lot of the commentary unpleasant and unnecessary. I haven't posted much because I just don't want to be associated with it. Even if your criticism is politely expressed and is something you'd be happy to stand behind, who wants to be part of a 'pile on' where the posts either side of yours are calling the influencer ugly or saying they hate their youngest child or isn't their style awful.

I think because threads are posted about individuals people just end up looking for anything to say to keep the thread going. So a subject will post something really quite innocuous and it's presented as evidence that they have a favourite child, their house is dirty, they live a life of leisure or whatever narrative someone wants to push.

And the horrid nicknames that they have for people/thread titles! If you google the name of the clean eating influencer I refer to and the site the first thing that comes up is a mean comment about her wedding/husband, a comment about her hair, a potentially legitimate (but meanly phrased) comment about a business venture and a 'joke' about her having contracted an STI. Many of these comments would be deleted here as not being in the spirit.

As a site there is zero ability to reflect on this. I tried to have this reflection there once years ago when Sali Hughes did her documentary on the site - asking where people considered the line to be personally in terms of what was up for criticism. The post was deleted and I received a warning!

Unlike here you mean? 😂

rubiesthatigaveup · 23/01/2025 12:51

It's a different type of unpleasantness IMO. Here I think posters can be keen to berate an OP and appear superior. It can be nasty and at times there are posts which cross a line - and I'm sure the weight of disapproving comments can feel horrid to an OP.

But I guess the difference that I see is that the OP has consented to be involved in that discussion and the discussion mostly takes place on the basis of information the OP has provided.

On Tattle comment threads are mostly centred around discussing individuals who isn't there to defend themselves. So it feels bitchier to me.

This is a generalisation of course based on the most popular thread type. There will be threads that are very similar on both sites - e.g. threads about the royals.

And of course on both sites there is some really lovely supportive behaviour.

Mishimal · 23/01/2025 12:55

Right can anyone not see the difference - seriously? Like the PP has said

MN Here you are posting a personal problem and if people jump on you, it feels shit.

Tattle feels nicer as no one is making personal comments or opinions about you, it’s about someone else.

The person who is subject of the tattle thread feels the same way as an OP does when they get jumped on MN

I always wonder why people cannot make this connection

It’s not personally horrible to gossip about someone you don’t know, it has zero impact on you really, you can just laugh and walk away, join in

when its about you - feels horrible doesn’t it?why is it different to be rude to someone’s face rather than behind their back!

ChristmasPudd1990 · 23/01/2025 13:12

I've seen it can be pretty nasty here. I've seen people asking for help and other posters have piled on by raking up their previous posts. I've never seen this on tattle.

No. Because it’s not personal it’s about someone you don’t know on tattle

The pile on is still happening and real to the subject - the posters are piling on together about the subject, they just aren’t piling on each other. It’s still a pile on. Difference is here is moderated it can and usually will get deleted if someone asks it to be. The subject of the tattle thread can never get anything deleted

Lovethatforyouhun · 23/01/2025 13:25

The crazy lock ins on the Katie Price thread are the stuff of nightmares. They won't be happy until she is dead, even then they won't be happy if she has a marked grave.
Seriously sick people. Same on the MM and Alice Evans threads.

However away from those threads the posters are funny!
Is this change to avoid the ICO stuff too?

DreamW3aver · 23/01/2025 13:29

Reddog1 · 23/01/2025 00:46

Some clever, funny people on Tattle. The threads I saw were not malicious.

I'm not a member but follow a few threads, some of the posters there are nasty and extremely malicious. You must not read the influencer ones

The problem I have with the influencer ones is that quite often they start by discussing genuinely problematic behaviour (and I think if you’re putting that out there to monetise then you can’t control or be upset if people disagree with you) but then they become personal attacks on their appearance etc which undermines the often quite valid message underneath. As I’ve said up thread though, away from the gossip threads, the advice ones are far less catty that on here.

I don't mind Tattle. I can say things about famous people that would probably seem crass and unnecessary here. 🤣
I'm sure a lot of us are on both? Though I think they are very different spaces.
I think alleging it's driven people to suicide is a bit OTT. I mean, loads of people are absolutely vile, directly to people all over the internet.
In fact a lot of people have followers who are only there to slag them off. I don't do stuff like that, but why shouldn't we be able to anonymously say what we think about people who are selling themselves online as a product?

Everyone who posts anything online is selling themselves as a product.

BobbyBiscuits · 23/01/2025 14:53

@HeffalumpsAndWoozlesAreHoneyRobbingTwats I guess so. But some are actively profiteering off a persona that is far from the real deal. I mean, I'm talking now but I'm not trying to sell much. I guess my opinion?

Rosesgrowonyou · 23/01/2025 16:17

So, the admin of Tattle threw a strop and took the site down. then got over it and now it's back? That's hilarious 🤣

In a nutshell, yes 😂

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/01/2025 17:15

But what was that weird 8 cafe stuff about too? It did make me laugh that the mods seemed to have a lightbulb moment after being up all night that actually, legal action might work better than closing their entire presumably profitable site down!
It's all very odd.

Bignanna · 23/01/2025 17:19

The families and celebrities threads are pretty nasty

Yeah but not before the harm is done. MN is toxic in it's own way - and whoever was talking about an echo chamber in the H&M threads clearly hasn't had a look at the royal threads here. There's some right crazies in there.

NeelyOHara · 28/01/2025 07:21

Influencers and celebrities would need to check in on tattle themselves and go looking for comments about them.
