Tattle Life rebrand

Yelen · 21/01/2025 12:22

Crap forum Tattle Life has changed overnight into 8Cafe.

8Cafe

Hate Cafe

Geddit?!

Nothing says 'I have nothing to hide' quite like changing the whole name and domain of your website.

The man who hides behind this pathetic hate forum (who Olivia Attwood met in real life and described as ugly...exactly what you think a troll would look like) needs to be put in prison for what he has done.

His website has caused at least one suicide that I know of. If he is so proud of it, he should be out there in public giving interviews about it.

I do wonder if there will be a surge of influencer threads on here, now there's no outlet for them on Tattle. Also I'd be surprised if there isn't another very similar site popping up soon as it was obviously very popular with posters and lurkers alike.

Mn is similar with their sub forums but rightly or wrongly depending on what you prefer, here is a lot more moderated. The thread about a certain big family was a real eye opener and I learnt a lot.

Changednameforyou · 23/01/2025 08:27

There's an odd post saying it's about behind the scenes stuff, there hasn't been a hack etc. and they're tidying up the site after last night. Read, deleting anything to suggest admin have lost user data and broken the law. But how do they explain the posters saying their details have been leaked? There's comments on Reddit too saying some Facebook users who tried to download the 8cafe app now can't access their banking apps. It's all very dodgy.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 23/01/2025 07:58

If I was an influencer and didn't like the speculation about my life I would simply stop sharing my life online.

It's a choice, not some kind of divine call.

There's plenty of jobs out there that don't include sharing snippets of your personal life with thousands of strangers, and even worse - exploiting your children too.

Does this mean that it’s justified though? Just because someone’s morals do not align with yours doesn’t mean it’s right to rip their life to shreds and call social services on them over and over. This is just like saying they deserve everything they get. Then how is anyone taking the moral high ground here.

"I'm an Internet troll but I'm an M&S Internet troll compared to the rest of the Internet trolls."
Seriously, get a grip.

My first Mumsnet ‘get a grip’! Although I’m surprised that particular post elicited such a snarky response…

I understand the tattle lot take a lot of exception to the word troll.

What about ‘self appointed vigilantes/social justice warriors with dubious morals and ideology’

JeremiahBullfrog · 23/01/2025 08:56

It's one of these awkward sites where a lot of the userbase are clearly nasty bullies but also there's a willingness to talk about genuinely problematic celebrity behaviour - a kind of discussion that is good to have but for some reason often doesn't take place elsewhere.

Mishimal · 23/01/2025 08:58

@JeremiahBullfrog decent moderation would fix this. If someone invented a site with moderation to filter out the bullies I think people would not approve but it would be less problematic

mashingwachine · 23/01/2025 09:01

It all looks normal to me. Weird message from last night gone and people posting this morning as usual?

Fridayfridaycatsandblamange · 23/01/2025 09:02

It was a bit like mumsnet with 'Mailonline' where nobody every admits to reading it but we all know they do (myself included :)

mashingwachine · 23/01/2025 09:03

Oh I see they have decided to go down the legal route with the threats so the site is staying. I think. They think. Who knows.

ChristmasPudd1990 · 23/01/2025 09:03

Odd. All back to normal now .

No, I agree that Tattle is hateful (see my original post) but I’m not sure why the person I quoted thinks I need to get a grip.

Fridayfridaycatsandblamange · 23/01/2025 09:10

I need to clarify a few things;

The name change wasn’t connected to disabling the site. It was something that acted as a catalyst for other things, but after members views it felt best to revert the 8 thing (we registered that in July 24 and had long been planing a rebrand - which we didn't think through).

There have always been a great many situations behind the scenes that members were unaware of, that has always been dealt with by the team to ensure the safe and efficient running of the site.

The site was not and has never been hacked, all members details remain secure. But for any site it's best practice to use a non identifying email so there is no data to ever leak.

However when direct threats are made to unconnected members of our families it was felt that we were left with no choice but to disable the site.

We all understand how much this has upset a great many of you and for this we are very sorry, the decision was not taken lightly.

After further discussion, yes late into the night for some and all afternoon for others, we have decided to deal with the threats with legal action.

As you will appreciate we won't be discussing this situation as it concerns family members with no connection to tattle.

All matters are with our legal team.

Once again we apologise for the stress of the last couple of days and hope to see you all back on your favourite threads.

Please post on topic on the threads and ignore this whole situation while it’s being dealt with as to not jeopardise it.

Promoting groups elsewhere will get a ban. Or posting to announce you're leaving will as it helps no one. Moderation is an impossible job, that sends you crazy at times

If we ever do close the site for good it will be left live to let people say their goodbyes. The posts from the last 5 hours have been deleted as people were doxing themselves and most of it was about this situation which we can not discuss.

If anyone asks about what’s happened, please only link to this thread and do not discuss it.

Big apologies for any concern this has caused.

Fridayfridaycatsandblamange · 23/01/2025 09:11

That was from Tattle (their Mod / founder) maybe.

Obviously I never read it. Not interested at all. ;)

Exactly. Faux outrage. I actually find the users friendlier on Tattle, the fact you can’t name change there helps a lot.

i also stay out of the “nasty” threads, not all of Tattle is toxic and there are many intelligent and pleasant posters.

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 23/01/2025 09:29

@Mishimal trolling isn't justified by what I was saying, no - but then, I don't think a group of people talking amongst themselves is trolling.

I've seen plenty of threads where they are just talking about influencers behaviour, regarding not advertising correctly, calling out the inconsistencies in what they say, worry about them showing their child in the bath, or a nappy etc. that's not trolling.

I'm actually pretty sure that a big 'rule' on tattle is that things stay on tattle.

Calling social services repeatedly with no real concern is way out of line - as is any talk on looks etc. I prefer to focus on a persons actions.

I guess I was saying that when the same influencer is uploading videos of themself time and time again crying over people picking them apart over something (my biggest annoyance being their parenting) then why continue to do it? You couldn't pay me enough to put my child out there, to thousands of strangers to pick apart. Should they do it? No, of course not. But will they? Possibly. I would never take the risk.

I've seen influencers proclaim that their child will never be on their page again....until they realise that actually, their child brings in more views and therefore more money - so a few days later, there they are! It's disgusting.

I would love there to be laws on using your child in that way.'

To sum up, I guess I'm basically saying that if it's their 'job' and this is an aspect of their job that they don't like then do what the rest of us do, and look for another job 🤷🏻‍♀️

hamsandyams · 23/01/2025 09:32

I think Tattle is a bit of a public service - it’s calling out bad behaviour in a way the person it’s about can fully ignore if they so choose - it’s much better than being on their comments and DMs.

I like to check out influencers I like as a sense check in not having the wool pulled over my eyes.

The concerning part is how obsessed some people are on some of the threads though - it can’t be healthy to obsessive watch someone else’s social media to identify all the tiny (and huge) lies they’re telling. If it’s bad for anyone’s mental health it’s those people. If there’s a thread about you on there, just don’t read it - it’ll have minimal impact on your life if you don’t know what’s being said.

NeelyOHara · 23/01/2025 09:32

I’m pleased it’s back, the dead parents forum was really helping me.

PreciousMahoney · 23/01/2025 09:49

My goodness the faux outrage about Tattle is so interesting.

How hateful it is etc.

I don't frequent the celeb gossip bits so I'm not going to justify anything there.

I put two identical posts on when I was at the end of my tether quite a while ago. I really was on the edge and just needed some empathy.

Tattle were as one wonderful, the posters bouyed me up and helped me see that although things were bad, there was a way ahead.

Mumsnet....eviscerated me asking about tiny details and whether they were true, why I had got myself into the situation in the first place, and made me feel frankly, apart from one or two nice posters that I was shite on their shoes. At a time I needed help not snide fun poking.

So when you throw accusations of Tattle being nasty sometimes take a look inwards too.

BlackBean2023 · 23/01/2025 07:04

It's still there to read but posting facility is down.

I only post on the M&S food thread but I'll miss it!

It's not. I'm currently reading posts that have been posted throughout the night and this morning.

incywincyspiders · 23/01/2025 10:01

I've been on Mumsnet for a decade and I've also been on Tattle since the beginning. For me, there is no doubt that Mumsnet posters are far more brutal than Tattle.

Tattle can be problematic and harsh - users can definitely can fixate on looks or weight and insult influencers/celebrities in their posts. However, I don't think that's particularly different from any other forums. The issues some threads raise regarding children's safety online, exploitation and other issues are really important.

I know people won't believe me but if there are posters in a thread being unnecessarily harsh, I always call those users out for whatever they are saying. I have called out sexism, ableism and body shaming in my time there - and I'm not the only one who does this! On the threads where these users continue to be an issue, I just don't post on the thread anymore. Simple.

BlondeMamaToBe · 23/01/2025 10:11

If Tattle does close another site will open in its place due to how popular it is.

There was a site before everyone moved over to Tattle so I have no doubt they’d all move again.

EverybodyLovesString · 23/01/2025 10:12

I wonder how many people will come back? I’m guessing quite a lot, just for the relationships they’ve built with other posters. It seems very poorly handled, though.
