What is the most miserable biscuit in existence?

DH and I are not eating sweet stuff for January and today he commented that he was so fed up with it he would even want to eat a really crap biscuit, so we were debating what that would be.

He reckoned the worst biscuit would be a Nice biscuit, but I think I would much rather eat one of those than a Garibaldi.

Is there a biscuit even more disappointing, that you would be less likely to accept an offer of than a Garibaldi biscuit?

I love Rich Teas dipped in tea and enjoy a good Malted Milk dip binge. Perhaps my council roots..

Oreo cookies - they look as though they would be full of rich chocolatey flavour, but they are not.

They are indeed a mortal disappointment. Lobotomised Romany Creams.

Hollietree · 18/01/2025 13:35

Rich tea - like eating cardboard.

Omg Rich teas are my favourite 🤣
I hate ginger nuts (but I hate ginger in general)

This is one of the most controversial threads I ever read, bar none

People merrily criticising Jammy Dodgers (admittedly bland, but they’re a fucking icon! The heart! The splodge pattern! The chance to go ploughing hopefully through the paste to access that now almost homoeopathically tiny quantity of chewy ‘is it even fruit?’ gum? Don’t tell me that’s not a momentary triumph).

Others up in here defending the conveyor belt-flavoured, teeth-full-of sand monstrosity that is a Viennese Whirl. I’d rather a Lemon Puff, that’s how bad the VW is.

Don’t worry though, cos I am here to settle it. Malted Milk is officially The Worst Biscuit. I’d sooner eat a wee freckly apple from the side pouch of a stranger’s school-bag.

That is possibly the best description of a jammy dodger I have ever read. Grin

The 'jam' becoming homeopathic is a good thing though, as that's the worst bit.

Actually the saddest biscuit I've ever had was an unidentifiable biscuit from a bag of "broken biscuits" - you can buy such a thing, basically biscuit rejects.

Oh 40+ year memory unlocked! My Grandparents had some relative that worked in the McVitties (?) factory in Newcastle (again?) and they used to give GP's huge bags of 'straight off the production line' broken biscuits. All smooshed and mixed up, soft and totally flipping minging.

How can anyone not like malted milk???

There are much worse than a Malted Milk.

I used to like dunking them in milk. Or I'd put Nutella on them when we ran out of good biscuits.

wineandsunshine · 18/01/2025 13:36

On a side note...has anyone tried the lemon & white chocolate M&S cookies 👌

You can thank me later!

whaddayawannado · 18/01/2025 13:36

Rich Tea Fingers.

Dull as ditchwater, and even I would leave them well alone.

Newmumhere40 · 18/01/2025 13:20

Oh my God don't you dare slag a Garibaldi! I bloody love them! Problem is I'd eat the pack. I would say it has to be arrowroot biscuits, so bland. Not sure if they are just an Irish thing though.

My parents love arrowroot biscuits and actively bulk buy when they see them (they’re in Lincolnshire). They treat them as a rare delicacy.

HoraceCope · 18/01/2025 13:37

i know people who like rich tea and custard creams
i like garibaldi

Tarkan · 18/01/2025 13:37

I once had to make a Jammy Dodger costume for a scavenger hunt. DH later wore it one Halloween. It's an icon even if it's not the best to eat.

Waitingfordoggo · 18/01/2025 13:38

@Tarkan I don't think we have a Home Bargains round my way but I will be on the hunt! 🍋

AmaDablam · 18/01/2025 13:38

Definitely the pink wafer ones, hands down. I actually quite like Garibaldi's and fig rolls. Rich teas are ok too, though morning coffees (like a cheaper, thinner version of rich tea, often rectangular in shape) aren't great. They take me right back to being in preschool when we used to get given one along with a tepid cup of orange squash. I wasn't particularly happy there so they're miserable by association!

Oreo cookies - they look as though they would be full of rich chocolatey flavour, but they are not.

I think they are black because they are coloured with squid ink. It's not chocolate. I've never had one though.

HoraceCope · 18/01/2025 13:38

i dont like the ones with jam in the middle
google tells me it is fox's sandwich cream

sequin2000 · 18/01/2025 13:39

This is an unpopular opinion but I can't stand bourbon biscuits..Nice a close second.

How can anyone not like malted milk???

Unless they have no taste buds, how can anyone like malted milk?

HoraceCope · 18/01/2025 13:40

strangeandfamiliar · 18/01/2025 13:09

Those circular or rectangular shortbread 'shortie' biscuits ( not the proper butter finger ones.) In fact anything from one of those big old-fashioned 'tea time selection' packs where all the flavours meld together and taste of cupboard.

agree,
those are the Worst

TypingoftheDead · 18/01/2025 13:40

I like Rich Tea, but sometimes you do need something a little bit bland. My least favourites are the Maryland cookies.

abracadabra1980 · 18/01/2025 13:41

Rich tea, but with salted butter they improve a little.

BigSilly · 18/01/2025 13:41

Rich tea is my fave. Hate garibaldi 'fly' biscuits

therewasafishinthepercolator · 18/01/2025 13:41

Do you know what I absolutely hate... the Wagon Wheel. DH loves a jammie one. It makes me question his judgement tbh.

Everything about it except its size and the hope that that brings is utterly disappointing.

It's not even chocolate! "A chocolate flavoured coating." Boke.

CoastalCalm · 18/01/2025 13:42

UpUpUpU · 18/01/2025 13:17

I am Coeliac so literally any gluten free biscuit is disappointing 😂😂

The Morrisons GF digestives are delicious

whaddayawannado · 18/01/2025 13:42

@FruminariaBandersnatchiosum Good grief, I'd forgotten all about Lincoln biscuits, that's a real blast from the past. DM used to buy those when I was a kid a very long time ago. You are right about the bobbles making them tolerable.

Love the username by the way.
