What is the most miserable biscuit in existence?

DH and I are not eating sweet stuff for January and today he commented that he was so fed up with it he would even want to eat a really crap biscuit, so we were debating what that would be.

He reckoned the worst biscuit would be a Nice biscuit, but I think I would much rather eat one of those than a Garibaldi.

Is there a biscuit even more disappointing, that you would be less likely to accept an offer of than a Garibaldi biscuit?

Party rings are horrible but at least they add some colour to the world. Rich tea are depressing to look at as well as to eat. They have a platonic level of neutralness and beigeness.

TwigletsAndRadishes · 20/01/2025 15:11

Remember that sight of a plate of biscuits at a child's birthday party? Iced gems, party rings, Jammy dodgers, pink wafers. Every time. Never changed. 😆

AffIt · 20/01/2025 15:19

I actually really like slightly dull biscuits like custard creams/Bourbons/Rich Tea and prefer them over chocolate biscuits or cake (not a cake fan), but the absolute nadir of the biscuit world is the fig roll.

Hideous things.

@TwigletsAndRadishes

I still love a party ring. I'm 44 😂

My partners mum used to give us bags of broken biscuits she acquired from when she worked at the Huntley and Palmer/Peak Freans/Nabisco factory in Reading. Urgh, stale, soggy and all tasted the same with biscuit crumb coating them. My partner who eats any old shit sweet stuff loved them.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 20/01/2025 16:32

Sadly for my middle aged tum, I've never met a biscuit that I didn't like. I literally like them all.

EsmaCannonball · 20/01/2025 16:42

Right, because of this and another thread in Chat I have now bought some Lu Chocolate Biscuits and some Polish chocolate. They had better be nice.

The Pekingeses at Crufts always make me think of a Fig Roll that's gone down the back of the settee and got covered in fluff.

WiddlinDiddlin · 20/01/2025 17:15

I have remembered an even more disappointingly dull biscuit..

Not sure how I came to be trying rather old british army rations.. but the stalwart 'Biscuits Brown'... UGH.

Like Dwarf Bread... you'll never truly be hungry if you've a pack of Biscuits Brown...

I did once ponder the fact that they must have been considerably out of date... and so tried some in-date ones. Nope. Still would rather eat my own ear.

@WiddlinDiddlin I mentioned these up thread, but said I didn't actually mind the fruit ones! Loved the colour of the fruit ones packets too! 😁

browneyes77 · 20/01/2025 17:58

I love Garibaldi biscuits.

Rich Tea are pretty bland, but not the worst biscuit out there.

The worst biscuit prize goes to HobNobs 🤢

Same. And I’m 47 😂😂

iamnotalemon · 20/01/2025 18:13

@browneyes77 hahaha. I expect I was deprived of them as a child which is why I buy them now. That and gold bars 🤣

AInightingale · 20/01/2025 18:44

And what the hell ever happened to Abbey Crunch? Why did the biscuits that people remember favorably and genuinely enjoyed all disappear, leaving absolute dross on the shelves?

JMAngel1 · 20/01/2025 18:50

Ahh but a rich tea is good dipped in tea. Also quite nice buttered.

I hate those iced ring biscuits - can’t think what they’re called but they’re pastel coloured. So sweet they hurt my teeth!

My absolute favourite biscuit is a Tunnocks tea cake or a chocolate Hob Nob.

endlesscraziness · 20/01/2025 18:57

@WiddlinDiddlin those were the devil! I don't think I ever ate them, no matter how hungry. The 'pate' that went with it was vomit inducing. However, I was partial to the dead fly biscuits

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 20/01/2025 18:58

Garibaldi

roycroppersshopper · 20/01/2025 19:01

What's worse than a rich tea? A cocoa rich tea, absolutely vile. Not sweet enough, dry AF, yikes, just awful!

PandaChopChop · 20/01/2025 19:02

I opened this to immediately answer "Garibaldi" 🤣

Christwosheds · 20/01/2025 19:05

Snooks1971 · 18/01/2025 13:34

Does anyone remember the sad (more sad) little brother of the Rich Tea? It was called Morning Coffee. From what I recall, it was an oblong with rounded corners, like a doily, thinner than the Rich Tea but basically the same thing.

Loved Morning Coffee with the lovely coffee pots and steam stamped into it. Yum.
I think my least favourite biscuit is a Figgy Roll. But I can see they are at least substantial.
Dark chocolate Garibaldis were good , do they still exist ? I can’t eat any of these any longer as I am coeliac, so I have to make do with the much less delicious GF fake versions. 😢

Biscoffi biscuit

Absolute filth, no redeeming qualities whatsoever

Oh I would not have eaten the pate if you'd paid me. I did like the squashed fly biscuits though, yes, still do. @MoonWoman69 are squashed fly the ones you mean?

MoonWoman69 · 20/01/2025 19:58

@WiddlinDiddlin
Yeah, I hate Garibaldi, but the fruit ones with the hint of spice were lovely! The pate, I agree, was foul! 🤣

rich tea is the best for dunking. the perfect smooth texture. I wouldn't have one just to eat.

Chuchoter · 20/01/2025 20:35

Rich tea or those dreadful Lotus biscuits.

Except that they're free. No one ever buys a packet do they? But if I'm given one with a coffee then I wouldn't spurn it.
(The lotus spread otoh really is filthy stuff. Biscuit ground up with extra fat and sugar.)
