Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I’m in my 70s. I have a new job contract and a much younger chap. I enjoy watching drug and gang thrillers on Netflix.

Shirley Conran said that life is too short to stuff a mushroom. It’s also too short to bother about lining your drawers and listening to The Archers.

You sound epic

HellofromJohnCraven · 16/01/2025 19:59

I have a snood
Started wearing long socks under my jeans
Sit next to the defibrillator at work!

Blanket in front of telly
Hot water bottle
Radio 4
Slips
Cardis
Big knickers

I'm fully embracing old ladydom and not ashamed.

Ha ha, I am a big fan of a massive pair of pants. And garden centres and period dramas. I would love an afternoon nap!

oh and phwoar to Alan Rickman and Monty Don!

I recently purchased some heated gloves because my poor fingers were freezing, even with thermal gloves. They look ugly and bulky, but I don't care because they are AMAZING.

WHAT SORCERY IS THIS?! 😱 You can get heated gloves?! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! 🚪

I need these! I am tapping at the door of 60, and me hands are booking freezing half the time between mid November and mid March.

Rushes to google!

AgathaPanthus · 16/01/2025 20:01

Late forties and I love the nostalgia of Fenjal. It reminds me of stealing my mum's when I was a teenager.

GellerYeller · 16/01/2025 20:01

I’ve been drinking sherry since my 20s. In a wine glass though!
Anything thermal, wheat bags.
Ovaltine. The kids love it.

Oh god, I fear I pissed off the window cleaner by doing this. He won't reply to my messages asking to do mine alongside my neighbours any more 😬I never had cash and he doesn't come on set days!

New window cleaner or make sure you always have the cash (or ask if you can bank transfer). Finding a bank to cash that will have been a major PIA for him.

Ribenaberry12 · 16/01/2025 20:01

Cardigans. All the cardigans.

Nameandgamechange123 · 16/01/2025 20:03

Imperial leather soap bars to cleanse.
Cif for cleaning the bath.
Eccles cakes.
Peel vegetables/prepare food sitting down sometimes.
Massive pants in the winter pulled up high.

Cattery · 16/01/2025 20:03

Comfy trousers
Comfy trainers
Anything comfy really
Non stop moaning about the neighbours comings and goings
Turning the light off to spy out of the blind
Making sure I know how we are going to get home after a night out
Having certain hot drinks out of certain mugs
Organising the recycling boxes and the stuff in them
Investing in a litter picker
Intolerant of the bad manners of others

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 16/01/2025 20:03

Heated blanket
Reading The Thursday Murder Club novels under said blanket
Having a strange crush on Richard Osman
Inability to wear any kind of shoe
Buying things from old people catalogues
Constantly moaning about the state of everything
I am 56 this year.

HoraceCope · 16/01/2025 20:04

persuaded a friend to go for a matinee because i didnt trust the weather late at night in February! or want to get home at 11 pm and be up early for work the next day

SabreIsMyFave · 16/01/2025 20:04

Re cheques. I haven't had a cheque book in over a decade. I got a cheque 2 years ago from a particular company, and my bank closed down in my wee market town 6 months before that!

So I had to go to a town 20 miles away to cash it. I mean, I have family there, and there's loads of big shops there/a huge shopping centre, so I was able to make the most of the day, but how annoying!

I love old fashioned dusting powder [talc] - you know the one - in a pretty round floral box with a beautiful soft powder puff for strategic application.

He banked at HSBC - our local one has a machine for cheques which is presumably why I still thought people used them. I'd actually introduced him to the neighbours and he cleaned all windows for me for about 6 years!

CarolNoE · 16/01/2025 20:05

54, on a Saga hotel holiday on Denia, Spain. All inclusive, under 1k. Booking again for next year as cannot do it cheaper myself whichever way I try. Some come for 4 or 6 wks as you get 1 o2 free wks respectively. Much pottling about, tapas then a mooch around and return.

WhatWasPromised · 16/01/2025 20:07

I’m mid 30s and I like:
cross stitch
being warm
proper slippers
big knickers
shopping in mountain warehouse
music from the 50s and 60s
non-underwired bras

echt · 16/01/2025 20:07

I'm 70 and to be fair have done lots of theses things for years now.

Listen to The Archers every day - it's a first thing in the morning deal here in Australia.
Do Open Gardens Victoria on the weekend
Electric blanket - bought one last year - amazing
Volunteer at a house museum
Keep my tablets in a pill caddy, sadly

Still go music festivals, though I no longer camp, preferring a shipping container.

My elderly mum always pays me for shopping etc by cheque. It's not a hassle if you have the banking apps. You can take a photo and pay in on your phone.

StormingNorman · 16/01/2025 20:08

Rose and violet creams
Horlicks before bed
A lap blanket in the car
Chatting to my cats

Thighdentitycrisis · 16/01/2025 20:08

I have to sit down in the pub

Cynic17 · 16/01/2025 20:09

I'm 59 and I like:
Radio 4
The Archers
Elasticated waistbands
Flat shoes
Early nights
Having a lie in on a Sunday morning
Only having one tiny TV in the house, but a radio in every room
Agatha Christie adaptations on TV
Visiting museums, galleries and historic sites
Correcting peoples spelling and grammar (😂)

However, there may be hope for me as I loathe tea (a disgusting drink) and have no interst in gardening (wouldn't catch me dead in a garden centre). I have never even seen a heated blanket... sounds weird.

MaryGreenhill · 16/01/2025 20:10

Warm coats , scarves, warm thick ugly cardies , glasses , taking great care not to fall , flat comfy shoes and boots , thick warm socks , hardly any make up, decaff everything, disliking seeing any sex on TV not even kissing .

Echobelly · 16/01/2025 20:10

I suppose sadly I have to add going to classical music concerts and singing in a choir. I fear both things are going to die out or be much reduced with the next few decades.
