Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I've finally got into thermal underwear.

Bluebunnylover · 17/01/2025 21:37

I wear my glasses on a string nowadays so I can always find them! Age 51

Bernardo1 · 17/01/2025 21:37

My old lady has a crush on toy boys, Titchmarsh, doesn't qualify.

Spends time ordering on Amazon, think they opened depot nearby especially.

keffie12 · 17/01/2025 21:51

Ahem, it depends on what you call old? I'm older than you. I love countdown. Always have

Crikeyalmighty · 17/01/2025 22:01

Really Enjoyed reading this but can't help but wonder- are an awful lot of you single. ?? If I was in Bed by 8.30pm with zip up dressing gowns and bed socks and horlicks I think the divorce petition would be following shortly - I'm not expected to be dressed up in sexy gear but do think an expectation here would be sat around till 10.30 earliest and my H never sits around in PJs , maybe a t shirt and joggers at the most , so I don't tend to either ( I'm 63)

I like jigsaws. I asked DH for a puzzle mat for Christmas

I asked for a jigsaw for Christmas and it was the BEST. Spent a solid week on it. I think DH has gotten me a proper puzzle mat for my upcoming 44th birthday and I'm so pleased.

Nothing I love better than a potter around the garden centre in the afternoon followed by an evening sitting on the sofa, in my comfies, wrapped in a blanket with a nice cup of tea and slice of fruit cake, watching Vera or Grantchester. I’m 55.

Saying that, I’m off to vegas in a few weeks where I will zip line over the strip, take a helicopter trip through the Grand Canyon and spend an afternoon shooting big guns followed by copious amounts of frozen margaritas 😀

@Justrestingmyeyes1
Sounds like an epic trip! Wish I was coming. I like your programme. Enjoyed Las Vegas in my 30s. Remember hotel had very very comfy bed (old lady, you see). Also enjoyed Mon Ami Gabi restaurant in Paris hotel opposite Bellagio fountains paid for by one armed bandit winnings in Luxor. Enjoy!!!

Packetofcrispsplease · 17/01/2025 22:28

I like garden centres , Skechers slip ins , those trainers that have a side zip as well as laces ( very easy to to get on and off ) I like nice comfy clothes .
i like talking to the dog , tea and cake and a nice sit down

toxic44 · 17/01/2025 22:44

I like ice cream for pudding. Every day.
Don't have the patience to argue with anyone.
Do crochet blankets and knitted socks.
If 65 is elderly, I'm an Ancient.

Some of us are widowed.

MaddestGranny · 17/01/2025 22:46

No-one has mentioned the sheer bliss and joy of having a long shoe-horn by the front door to help you put on shoes (inc. Skechers trainers) without having to bend or undo the laces or tread down the backs. I couldn't manage without mine.
A boon and a blessing.

Deeperthantheocean · 17/01/2025 22:46

Am I missing something with fenjal? I got a gift set but didn't notice anything different from my normal gels, bubble bath etc. Xxx

CoralGraceRow · 17/01/2025 22:47

I love a Horlicks. This thread just reminded me. I must buy some!

LuluBlakey1 · 17/01/2025 22:50

I have no idea who most 'celebs' are in reality shows and no interest in watching them.
I don't follow any celeb or 'influencer'
I have never played any computer game and never will
I rarely use my mobile phone outside of work
I have never had a Facebook account or eaten a Macdonald's /Burger King etc but I do like a Greggs cheese and onion pasty.

Mazanna123 · 17/01/2025 22:52

I really really want to go on a river cruise.

Eyeliner and mascara on lower lashes. Think it’s just habit now. I tried without and have to admit I did look younger and fresher, but just can’t seem to give it up!

God I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know this! Hence I must be old.

Watching Columbo

Wearing wool cardigans

Rose, lavender and lilac scented anything

Violet creams and parma violets

Pastel coloured clothing

Quality over quantity

@ThePoliteLion ooh any memoirs to recommend?

Yes! “Period Piece” by Gwen Raverat, “Ramblin Rose” by Sheila Stewart and “The Country Child” by Alison Uttley X

Lorrainedrops · 17/01/2025 23:00

I love this thread.

For me.... a nice cardi, Sunday dinner then Antiques road show. Knickers and bra that never match (some I got for Xmas I could tuck my boobs in lol) Prefer to stay in then go out. Watching tv with a blanket over me. Tv remotes phone tissues etc next to me on the arm of the settee. Telling my Dad to take his coat off when he's at mine otherwise he won't feel the benefit when he goes outdoors. Checking plug switches are off before going to bed.

Sampler · 17/01/2025 23:03

I do online jigsaws on my big iPad in bed and I just bought a set of 8 soaps in tk max (reduced !) for my underwear drawers. Love a bed cardi and I source them specially because they have to be the correct length, style and soft wool.
I tut a lot and make noises when I get up and don’t see the point in sitting watching telly downstairs when there’s a perfectly good bed awaiting me.
l like looking out my upstairs windows at nature and the locals, a habit dd has inherited and sadly nearing extinction due to mobile phones.
I listen to trance music on my headphones at the gym, love loud music at home and think I’m 25 so I get really shocked when I look in the mirror and realise I’m not.

mamaandbabas · 17/01/2025 23:23

PJs on straight after work.
Big pants

ThePoliteLion · 17/01/2025 23:24

Mazanna123 · 17/01/2025 22:52

I really really want to go on a river cruise.

Agree! On a large German river viewing fairy tale castles and dense forests

mamaandbabas · 17/01/2025 23:26

Watching Call The Midwife on Sunday nights

anon666 · 17/01/2025 23:26

A lap blanket over my legs, I sit and do stitching or knitting in front of the TV watching Greys Anatomy.

Laurmolonlabe · 17/01/2025 23:28

Where to start- all things lavender scented, knitting on the train/bus, Hotter shoes, silk headscarves, Quality Street at Christmas, long cardigans, pretty much any period drama ahead of something modern, all my hobbies, darning socks the list is endless.

Rednotdead · 17/01/2025 23:30

Elasticated waistbands, in fact, elasticated everything.
