Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I'm a Real Old Lady. I know I am, because since becoming a ROL, I have -

  1. Switched from L'Oreal to MooGoo. Skin has never looked better.
  2. Don't watch TV. Only Netflix/Youtube etc for historical dramas, documentaries and resources for the class I teach on Archaeology
  3. Love writing my latest historical novel in the winter by the fire, wearing sensible pyjamas and an Oodie. 5-8 a.m. is my sacred writing time.
  4. Have acquired four cats and another stray that has staked his territory.
  5. Separate bedrooms for DH and me since one snores and the other twitches. Lots of love cuddles though, during the day.
  6. Have two large glasses of Sauv Blanc whilst writing (for inspiration)
  7. Everything aches at the end of the day
  8. Have joined my Class of 1960 group on Facebook. Our teacher is still alive...
  9. Gardening has become a passion. My giant sweet potatoes are famous in the town.
  10. Sketchers are my lifesaver, as are elasticised pants
  11. I've started to tell my DGC about life as a kid in the 1950s...

I like being a ROL. Certainly more relaxing than 47 years of teaching teenagers...

pointless and the news every evening without fail!!
making sure my pj top is tucked into my pj bottoms so I don't get a cold back
numerous back scratchers and portable fans worn round my neck

Yes they always ride up. Seem to shrink in wash

I turned 52 today, so am probably allowed to lean in to my love of Badedas, sherry, cashmere socks, dusting powder, NT membership, heated throws etc. I just got varifocal contact lenses, which are actual witchcraft, so can ditch the reading glasses for now.

I also love live gigs, festivals and lifting heavy weights, so I like to think I'm still aiming for badass old lady overall...

Happy birthday!

Onlyhereforthebatshitneighbours · 17/01/2025 20:35

According to much of this, I've been an old lady since I was 5...

LadyLucksalot · 17/01/2025 20:35

I love toast and Flower Fairies.

suburburban · 17/01/2025 20:35

Radio 2 especially at weekend with POTP, Tony Blackburn, s of the 70s

You can borrow jigsaws from libraries as well.

I’ve looked in mine and they always seem to be the old, dreary ones that people must have found in their attic. I like the more modern, colourful ones which my library never seems to have.

Here's the link for the thread I mentioned earlier. Looks like it made it into classics 🙂

@wildthingsinthenight is this the lockdown thread you mentioned? 🙂

Dontlletmedownbruce · 17/01/2025 20:43

I love jigsaws, knitting and reading. All have been complicated by my need for reading glasses. I'm 47 now. I don't like crude humour or talk and hate sex scenes on TV, hard to avoid on the streaming services these days.

StopTalkingSoMuch · 16/01/2025 18:48

I'm an "old" lady of 65.

I hate -
Fenjal bubble baths
Footspas
Kriss Kross books
garden centres
Gardening programmes
Strictly Come Dancing, Bake Off, anything like that.
Any craft - crochet, knitting, lace work, etc.
Bingo

I DO like -
Rock music (favourite band is Linkin Park)
Very hot Indian food
Doc Martens
Ice skating

Edited

62 here...

I DO like Bake off, but I also

Volunteer at 1 Rick festival every year
Attend another one every year
Run half marathons
Wear band t shirts

😊😊

Going to bed early
A good cup of tea
Being warm

My 14yo Granddaughter likes all of these things too!

Crystall88 · 17/01/2025 20:53

I like doing crosswords in magazines. I have a footwarmer and an electric blanket. Early night I bed with a cup of tea and a book. I'm 37.

Moll2020 · 17/01/2025 20:54

I’ve got a zip up long dressing gown which I love!

DD is only 21 but has just excitedly sent me a photo of her new, bright red casserole dish. And this weekend she's planning a trip to the garden centre with her boyfriend to choose some potted shrubs for their balcony.

At 21 you could have only got me into a garden centre at bloody gunpoint!

My Grandmother used to wear a housecoat, I think I'd rather like one.

Btw this sketchers/bootie slipper wearing, soup spoon obsessive is... 45
Also have a love of all things Agatha Christie and have done since my teens.

Justrestingmyeyes1 · 17/01/2025 21:06

Nothing I love better than a potter around the garden centre in the afternoon followed by an evening sitting on the sofa, in my comfies, wrapped in a blanket with a nice cup of tea and slice of fruit cake, watching Vera or Grantchester. I’m 55.

Saying that, I’m off to vegas in a few weeks where I will zip line over the strip, take a helicopter trip through the Grand Canyon and spend an afternoon shooting big guns followed by copious amounts of frozen margaritas 😀

toffeeappleturnip · 17/01/2025 00:08

Full briefs

sooo comfy, wish I'd started wearing them years ago

I had 3 new pairs of maxi Sloggis in shades of blue delivered today. I was very excited to see the colours and patterns and I know they will cover my bum and come up to my waist. Love them.

TheTavern · 17/01/2025 21:10

I thought Vera would appear more frequently on this post!
-Vera, Foyles War, Grandchester, Endeavour, Silent Witness, Line of Duty,
-radio 2, 4, world service.
-4711, Fengal, Badedas, lemon bars of soap
-ASICS, Sketchers, crocs, fleeces, M&S underwear
-Varifocal glasses, hearing aids, anti inflammatory medication and food, hand warmer, Google maps (check roads before I go anywhere)
reading death notices (awful I know)

Oh Foyle's War! I have a soft spot for Michael Kitchen.

EatAllDay · 17/01/2025 21:12

I love reading the list of deaths in the last week. Can’t help it

Bed at 9.30. HEAVEN

I'm off to my cosy bed with my car in a short while

Evenstar · 17/01/2025 21:16

@mollymile I knitted a miniature postbox topper for a tin of shortbread to give our postie for Christmas. Nodding in agreement to many of these especially Claudia Winkleman’s fringe and not recognising (or having any interest in watching) “celebrities” on reality shows
