Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I loved Badedas since I first smelt it in my 20s. My dhs grandma used it every day in her bath.
I love walking around lovely gardens and having afternoon tea, always have done.
Hate going to plans and restaurants where the music is too loud to talk.
In the past 15 years I've learnt to crochet and more recently knit.
I love my wheeled shopping trolley as it saves my arms and shoulders when buying heavier things from the supermarket.
Chilled sherry is utter bliss.
Proper juniper gin and tonic is heaven. None of this flavoured stuff.
As is washing blowing in the wind on the line.
I am partial to a puzzle book. Not bought one for a while so must get a new one.
These may be 'old lady' things but the 'old ladies' who do them must have started when they were younger. You don't suddenly start and be good at something like knitting in your 70s.
I'm 53 and also love rock, disco and dance music, wearing my dms.

Exactly I've always done crafts, sewing and knitting but I now do more crochet

If Mumsnet Towers advertising department isn't on the phone right now to get Fred Olsen Cruises to sponsor this thread, they're missing a trick.

Jigsaws! Knitting! Crochet! The garden room! The David Attenborough Room!

goingdownfighting · 17/01/2025 19:06

Oh and elasticated waistbands

icelolly12 · 17/01/2025 19:08

Watching Columbo

Wearing wool cardigans

Rose, lavender and lilac scented anything

Violet creams and parma violets

Pastel coloured clothing

Quality over quantity

@ThePoliteLion ooh any memoirs to recommend?

suburburban · 17/01/2025 19:09

I bought some of those thermal knickers which are more short like

Not sexy but so warm

Plantmumfailure · 17/01/2025 19:13

These theeads always get called ageist because clearly not all women over whatever age share the same tastes and habits. Bit of course I know what you mean! Mine are more based on women a couple of generations ahead of me, like my grandma's age, so I'm sure they don't apply to women of 70+ these days.

Aaaaaaanyway, I love a cup and saucer, proper tea made with leaves in a teapot, croft sherry, Agatha Christie and Rosamund Pilcher books. I can't sew but wish I could!

Middlemarch123 · 17/01/2025 19:13

Love this thread.
I watched a trailer for celebs Love Island, didn’t know a single one of them.

Caught a bit of The Traitors and thought that Claudia really should cut her fringe because it will damage her eyesight hanging in her eyes.
I love my Hotter slip ons, and am contemplating growing out my dyed blonde bob and having a silver pixie. Ala Judy Dench.
I get excited when I get a Damart catalogue through the door, which my late mum referred me for, previously it went straight in the bin.

I love blue Nivea, radio 4 and a nice sit down with my hand knitted throw over my knees. I have my favourite mug, which is bone china. Previously it was whatever mug I grabbed first.
I don’t go out in slippery weather.
I put my electric blanket on an hour before going to bed, to take the chill off.
I’m 63, but in my head I’m 29.
I don’t like getting old, but like my dear dad used to say, it’s better than the alternative…

You're not classed as an old lady at 65!

That’s nice to hear. I’m 65 too 😀
I will only wear comfortable (albeit, fabulous) footwear.
I like Coronation Street
” “ heated throws
” “ slippers

StrikeForever · 17/01/2025 19:15

StopTalkingSoMuch · 16/01/2025 18:51

Medically, 65 is classed as Elderly 😮

Damn it 😳

mollymile · 17/01/2025 19:19

Does anyone here own up to knitting decorated tops on Post Boxes? Not me Guv!

OhMyGiddyAuntFanny · 17/01/2025 19:22

Next week I’ll be 68. I don’t watch any reality TV shows or soapies. I hate smoking and I think it’s a disgusting habit. I’ve never looked on TikTok ( and never will).

I love Badedas shower gel - I’ve used it for years. I love trance music and Korean dramas 😬 I don’t feel old. In my head I’m still young and if it wasn’t for my shitty knees I’d be dancing to my trance music.

A proper old lady would avoid anything which makes the bath slippy. Perhaps you mean Badedas?

Well badedas as does smell lovely. This old lady got rid of the bath and now has a walk in shower

ChaosAndCuddlesAndTeacups · 17/01/2025 19:53

Ineedanewsofa · 16/01/2025 19:36

We had a LOVELY thread like this over lockdown that I think went into Classics.
It was called " I Like Old Lady Things"
Or something like that

orangetriangle · 17/01/2025 20:00

As much as I do all these old lady things I have spoke about love a good boogie to 80s music in my head I'm feel about 30 though my body tells me otherwise!!

borntobequiet · 16/01/2025 19:38

I’m in my 70s. I have a new job contract and a much younger chap. I enjoy watching drug and gang thrillers on Netflix.

Shirley Conran said that life is too short to stuff a mushroom. It’s also too short to bother about lining your drawers and listening to The Archers.

This isn't the thread for you then! 😁
