Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I like my tea really, really milky. NOT weak, but milky.

I know what you mean.
I like my tea "well brewed, but generous with the milk." Typically need 3 or 4 of the hotel uht sachets 🤨
People look so bewildered I end up making it myself.. Or have a coffee 😂

A font by the front door for holy water? Please tell me about this I've never heard of it!

Its a Roman Catholic tradition similar to the Jewish Mezuzah. As you leave or enter the house, the tradition is to touch the Holy Water and ask for a blessing on leaving or offer a prayer of thanks for a safe return home. rdiocesan.com/5-ways-keep-catholic-home/#:~:text=Many%20people%20are%20a%20bit,in%20every%20family%20member's%20bedroom.

Oh yes, I forgot. Big knickers!! 😁

I’m never going back!

Eyeliner and mascara on lower lashes. Think it’s just habit now. I tried without and have to admit I did look younger and fresher, but just can’t seem to give it up!

I'm 44 and genuinely don't suit my lower eyes and lashes bare! Oh god am i an old lady? How old are you?

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 17/01/2025 07:25

Love my rocking chair and a quiet evening crocheting with a lap blanket on.

I also bought some solid bottomed floral slippers and I love getting Toblerone as a gift and breaking a triangle off before bed every so often.

BarkPench · 17/01/2025 07:35

I love see babies or anyone really in anything handmade.

anonduchess · 17/01/2025 07:42

Fruit cake.... my beloved

Bellyblueboy · 17/01/2025 07:48

I love going to a library! Not necessarily to borrow a book - but the browse!

I live a guided tour on holiday - I went to new gardens recently and loved it (the little bus ride and commentary😂):

Princessfluffy · 17/01/2025 07:52

@godmum56 thank you 🙂

Justleaveitblankthen · 17/01/2025 07:59

I look forward to Winter watch and Spring Watch every year and Antiques Roadshow rounds off a perfect weekend.

Bonus points if already in my 'Jamas for both shows 😁

I have to have my drinks in certain mugs. A certain one for my breakfast tea, mid morning coffee, after dinner tea, and late afternoon green tea. And the tea must be Yorkshire. I carry Yorkshire tea bags in my handbag for if I ever have tea away from home.

Danceswithweasels · 17/01/2025 08:10

What a lovely thread, all the usual suspects here.

Thermal vest in winter, at the moment tucked into my big knickers.
Elasticated waists, started during lockdown, now can't bear anything restrictive.
Comfy shoes, as above.
A nice cup of strong but milky tea.
Radio 4, also heard some trailers for Radio 3 "chill" mixed this week which I might try.
Not going "out" after dark.
Blanket over my legs in the evening, heated in the winter.
Developing a keen interest in feeding the birds.
Tutting and shaking my head at bad behaviour.
Going to bed before 10 pm with a good book, getting up at 6am.
Enjoying a Nana nap.

I use the usual range of IT and technology competently at work but I like to buy simple versions of things without lights, programmes and noises eg My fridge keeps things cold it doesn't play an orchestra when I leave the door open or require a manual to set the temp. I spend a lot of time on Ebay finding the same version when something breaks to avoid the new fangled "improved version ".

As above, I drive a Fiat Panda with solid knobs and dials.

DustyLee123 · 17/01/2025 08:12

I don’t wear mascara on the bottom, as it makes your dark lines worse.
And I’ve a jigsaw on the go now.
i will be looking out for some soap wrapped in paper. I love a nice bar of soap, I put it in my drawers to make my undies etc smell nice.

Mylittlebobble · 17/01/2025 08:13

I've thought of another one...
I like Classic fm in the car. Again, it's soothing when I'm feeling stressed trying to get the kids to where they need to be.

DustyLee123 · 17/01/2025 08:16

This thread has made we want to buy a radio to have on in the kitchen, like my DM used to have. It must be all the nostalgia!

Talking of DM, does anyone know where I can buy a double ended pastry cutter for mince pies like she had? Everywhere I’ve looked recently has sets of one ended cutters.

I can't remember where mine are from, but it's more comfortable to use single-ended cutters.

I have wrapped soaps in my underwear drawer, and a jigsaw almost permanently on the go. I get books from the library, and really like nice shortbread.

Oh I'm exactly the same ! Can't have coffee in my tea mug

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 17/01/2025 08:39

I like to think that I am an eccentric old lady but in reality I am only 47. I do have dgc though so I’m an actual granny.

Two of my favourite things are my wireless and my eiderdown on the bed.

I’m really tempted by a blue rinse.

I remember my mum having the radio (wireless) on every Sunday morning, in the kitchen listening to ‘family favourites’. 🙂
