Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I moved tables in a cafe the other day, due to the draught from the door. First time ever. DH looked at me like I was crackers 😂

This sounds like me and DH!

I'm lucky enough to have my grandmother's China. I use it for afternoon tea every so often. Brings me joy.

I love anything Agatha Christie. I find the stories soothing. Recently went to see an Audience with David Suchet and it surpassed all my expectations.

57!

It wasn't the slippers or the dressing gown that made me ask but my gran liked People's Friend and Cliff Richards back in 1984/5 and it was grannyish then 😂

My fluffy blanket
JRT
Sheepskin slippers - calf length
Tutting
Telling youths not to spit in the street
Paying with cash where possible
Or by cheque , if not
Saying 'hello' to total strangers of any age
More tutting

EBearhug · 17/01/2025 00:47

I'd like to point out that:

I have been listening to R4 including the Archers since I was in the womb;
I've always enjoyed a good museum, and was a junior member of my local museum;
I've been gardening since I was about 7.

Clearly I was born old.

(This might be why no one ever asked me to marry them.)

BashfulClam · 17/01/2025 00:51

45, I’d rather sit in under my heated blanket reading than go anywhere. I’m drinking herbal teas, I bought a special whisk and I was excited about it. I found myself discussing kitchen towels with DH, I stopped and said ‘what happened to young us?’ I cannot abide any shoes apart from trainers these days but must be comfy Skechers etc. I stand up in stages and also make a lot of noise groaning as I go. …sign me up for old lady club.

It’s great isn’t it? Fortunately my DP is also a little old man in the making. He enjoys:

  • whittling
  • yorkshire tea
  • a nice glass of sherry
  • getting excited about finding vintage sherry glasses in antique shops (see above)
  • wearing nicely polished shoes
  • slippers that fully enclose the foot, ideally tartan
  • lying under an electric blanket with the latest national trust magazine
  • real ale (served at room temperature)
  • a nice handknitted aran jumper
  • marzipan fruits
  • fry’s turkish delight
  • spam
  • paying for things in cash

He is 39 😂

likewise, i’ve always enjoyed these things but since I hit my mid-30s it a) feels more socially acceptable to enjoy them at this age and b) i don’t give a toss what other people think as long as they leave me in peace with a nice book and my knitting 😂

Boooooreddddd · 17/01/2025 01:03

After working 12 hour shift yesterday vwhich involved me getting up at 5am and getting home at 8pm and then having blood test at 8am this morning,I was having a wonderful nap at 2pm today!

mybelovedghostandme · 17/01/2025 02:14

Cardigans are my now fave item of clothing
I recently and regularly find myself watching mrs brown and Miranda and laughing .. quite a lot
Moan a lot about needing to pee during the night

coxesorangepippin · 17/01/2025 03:01

I would definitely recommend the Skechers slip ins, you can literally step into them and nudge them off without bending down.
I slipped a disc a few months ago and these Skechers were a lifesaver

^.
Sounds like a sketchers ad!

Chamomile tea before bed, heating pad, proper hardcover books, crocheting baby blankets for relatives, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Midsomer Murders, sensible shoes, keeping old clothes for rags, sweets in my handbag… golly, on reflection I could pass for 80. But I’m 32.

Machooda · 17/01/2025 03:19

Wearing cardigans, under a heated blanket on the sofa, furry slipper boots, no-end of herbal tea in a huge teapot, switching between my reading glasses and distance glasses (with one pair always parked on my head when not in use).

Toddlerteaplease · 17/01/2025 03:33

PuppyMonkey · 16/01/2025 18:47

I like my tea really, really milky. NOT weak, but milky.

Same here. Hence my username!

Giggorata · 17/01/2025 03:42

Being an actual old lady, I am retired and am enjoying developing some bad habits, such as:
staying up into the small hours and sleeping in the next morning,
playing music very loudly (detached, so not too antisocial, though I have had a complaint from over the road)
and getting a bit pissed sometimes, especially when drumming round a camp fire.

But I have always, from teens:
had proper tea made in a pot
watched snooker
loved a tea shop
listened to Radio 4
used Pears soap
and Nivea
tutted and looked disapprovingly at certain things
done museums
wore scarves and slips
asked people to be quiet in cinemas and theatres
done mascara on upper and lower lashes
etc

Princessfluffy · 17/01/2025 04:56

I involuntarily groan when I get into my friend's sports car as it is too low. Have been doing this since I had my first child at age 30.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/01/2025 18:53

Proper slippers that enclose the whole foot.
A nice cardigan.
A nice sit down.

‘A nice sit down’ made me laugh!

Auburngal · 17/01/2025 06:27

i bet many draw the line on the dolls with knitted/crocheted dresses to conceal a loo roll.

MagnoliaTreeBlossom · 17/01/2025 06:36

I have always been an old soul and have an honorary old lady badge and...

A shopping trolley (typhoon - apples design)

Several wicker shopping baskets and string bags

Crochet blankets

A soup pot that is also used for tablet and fudge

A recipe folder with clippings and handwritten recipes

A button tin

A sewing box

A stationery box for correspondence, greeting cards, stamps etc.

Writing a cheque and recording the stub

A membership for my local garden centre

Knowing a good drying day and pegging a washing out

Having a font by the front door for Holy Water.

Growing veg. in the garden.

Napping but claiming to be resting my eyes

Princessfluffy · 17/01/2025 06:40

A font by the front door for holy water? Please tell me about this I've never heard of it!
