Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

Nap daily
Waterfall cardigan a must
brew teapot at least 5 min
thieving cuttings from stately homes
exasperation if someone rings during Good telly - even when it’s streaming

Are those the ones that have the.... ahem, 'personal massagers' they show a woman using on her neck/shoulders? 😆

Damn I must have missed those!!!

@GellerYeller
I see your tasty biscuits and raise you with a nice home made Madeira cake.

Sunday baking is the way to go.

I'm an "old" lady of 65.

Fenjal bubble baths
Footspas
Kriss Kross books
garden centres
Gardening programmes
Strictly Come Dancing, Bake Off, anything like that.
Any craft - crochet, knitting, lace work, etc.
Bingo

I DO like -
Rock music (favourite band is Linkin Park)
Very hot Indian food
Doc Martens
Ice skating

Edited

Do you like the new singer of LP?

Home made school cake 👌

I have a pink candlewick housecoat and I just adore Sir Tom Jones.
M and S chocolate covered custard creams are smashing.

Tiddlywinkly · 16/01/2025 22:15

Early 40s

I like:

A heated blanket

Slippers and onesie/dressing gown. They now come with me on a UK holiday or weekend trip to friends

Ovaltine/Horlicks (reminds me of my grandpa)

I put soap and lavender pouches in drawers (reminds me of my grandma)

I like a word search

Am 60, love to lounge on my free days in my nightie and dressing gown and sometimes pop on wellies and walk back my fields, haven’t seen any local neighbours yet.
Talk to my cats and dog oh and when walking in rural road always say hello to the sheep/donkeys/cows whatever animal happens to be close to the road.

love my grey hair, runners, sketchers and hot water bottle.

Smile and say hello to everyone I meet,

Don’t give a fiddlers about wearing make up matching clothes.

Newmumburnout · 16/01/2025 22:17

I consider myself "old ladish" at 35 !
Comfy shoes and clothes over fashionable ones. My slippers and hilarious but amazingly comfy and I never wear heels. An early night, a nice cup of tea.

Eyeliner and mascara on lower lashes. Think it’s just habit now. I tried without and have to admit I did look younger and fresher, but just can’t seem to give it up!

Tell me more….

And I'm not even old…😆😊

Yes, I saw hello to people I walk by. Fellow dog walkers seem to be the most reciprocal

I've started to like a woolly hat when I go out.
Knitting and crocheting woolly hats and blankets is my favourite hobby.
Coach trip holiday brochures are starting to look very interesting.
I have rediscovered Yardley floral perfumes.

Yes, Yardley English Rose perfume is lovely, a fresh rose smell.

Feel like I've found my tribe here, such a lovely thread. I seem to remember there was a similar thread around the time of lockdown and I found that quite comforting at the time. I'll see if I can find it.

Friday night = Gardener’s World

Sunday night = Countryfile (especially the weather) & Antiques Roadshow

Elaine Paige on R2 Sunday afternoon

Boss weekend-Very happy indeed 😊

Loveaglassofsherry · 16/01/2025 22:21

Excellent thread. Nice slice of Battenberg all round.

Does anyone have young fellas with premature Grandad tendencies - like whistling or collecting odds and sods in glass jars in the garage?

SoapCollector · 16/01/2025 22:24

whycantibeselfishforonce · 16/01/2025 20:40

But do you say 'oooooff' when you land on the sofa for that nice sit down though?

I do, definitely old lady territory - and I am so here for it!

I also say ooooofffff when I get up from a nice sit down!

MiniPumpkin · 16/01/2025 22:26

Complaining about noise levels (music) when out for lunch/pub.. i was irritated we seemed to be placed close to the speaker.. it was like a night club.. could barely hear myself think never mind have conversation at the ripe old age of 36. Everything is just too loud 🤣
Also a big fan of cardigans, big knickers, tea and my own sofa and watch tv where I can sit with a blanket and control the noise levels of course

Sodullincomparison · 16/01/2025 22:29

I’ve always been a cardigan girl.

I love a Snowball.

Liver and onions.

making little piles on the stairs to ‘save my legs’

I have also always loved a Nana nap and that will never end.

recently I have started to hold my phone further and hold my eyes wide open as I type.

queenMab99 · 16/01/2025 22:31

I am 73, I hate tea. I pay my coal man with a cheque, or sometimes even cash, I love to have paper money in my little old purse.

Wishingiwastracytutor · 16/01/2025 22:31

I like really thick Nivea from a blue tub and to be alone …

lissie123 · 16/01/2025 22:32

Early nights
blanket over my knees when I sit on the sofa
Take my pillow everywhere when I stay away from home
comfy slippers
I wear a a slip under dresses and skirts.

Callipygion · 16/01/2025 22:34

When there’s nothing on the telly, I watch back to back episodes of Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip on iPlayer.

mollymile · 16/01/2025 22:37

@EBearhug I envy you paying for something by cheque.

Ohnobackagain · 16/01/2025 22:44

@ViolettaDePensy and @EBearhug let us know how you get on 😂

Gliblet · 16/01/2025 22:46

Wrights soap
Badedas
Tea, biscuits arranged on a plate, and either Poirot or Time Team on a Sunday afternoon
Taking crossword books on flights or long train journeys
Knitting and crochet
Membership of the Friends of Friendless Churches

Oh, and I always have the full Mum kit in whatever bag I'm carrying (e.g. whatever someone happens to need and the willingness to dispense it) which according to DH is a proper old lady thing 😁
