Your 'old lady' habits/tastes ;)

Do you like footspa? Have a crush on Alan Titchmarsh?

I'm 47 and I like to get Kriss Kross puzzle books when I go on holiday, I think their main market is the over 70s. I also like Fenjal bubble bath which I'm sure is rather an old lady thing.

Old ladies also welcome to add their old lady habits too! 😁

I've started to like a woolly hat when I go out.
Knitting and crocheting woolly hats and blankets is my favourite hobby.
Coach trip holiday brochures are starting to look very interesting.
I have rediscovered Yardley floral perfumes.

Is this in Florida? I can't imagine anything as wonderful as this in the UK.

I’m 69 so must be defined as very elderly. Today I swam for nearly an hour. I swim most days and having lost six stone I now wear skinny jeans and think I look great!

as for old lady habits, I do like a hot chocolate drink, low calorie of course!

orangetriangle · 16/01/2025 21:42

like a lay in at the weekend which is new just feel so tired I can easily sleep until 9.30 then again I'm up at 7 for work in the week and up and down for the toilet all night
increasingly feeling the cold goes through to my bones unless I'm having a hot dlush !! but my smile used to say old bones are cold bones and I think she was right
favouring jogging suits if not going out which always seems old lady to me
my ankle and knee bones are cracking when I walk!!

thingfrombxl · 16/01/2025 21:42

I have been listening to The Archers on and off for 30 years. I am 48

UK in the southeast. Florida would be even better though with the weather. My aunt and uncle live in one in Florida which has a clubhouse and my aunt goes to play cards and board games every day. I imagine it to be something akin to Kellerman’s in Dirty Dancing.

I like a foot spa.
More Monty Don, than Alan Twitmarsh though!

Also love a foot spa. But Larry Lamb over Alan & Monty!

orangetriangle · 16/01/2025 21:46

pointless and the news every evening without fail!!
making sure my pj top is tucked into my pj bottoms so I don't get a cold back
numerous back scratchers and portable fans worn round my neck

Polecat07 · 16/01/2025 21:48

@whaddayawannado
What is your rose pruning technique, may I ask?

Thingymajigii · 16/01/2025 21:48

I still use a record player and have been buying records since I was 12.

I'm an "old" lady of 65.

I hate -
Fenjal bubble baths
Footspas
Kriss Kross books
garden centres
Gardening programmes
Strictly Come Dancing, Bake Off, anything like that.
Any craft - crochet, knitting, lace work, etc.
Bingo

I DO like -
Rock music (favourite band is Linkin Park)
Very hot Indian food
Doc Martens
Ice skating

Edited

Ah but doc martins are marketed at your demographic😂.

they are very sturdy and sensible!

orangetriangle · 16/01/2025 21:50

vari vocals now
consistently loosing my glasses and my occupational glasses

Moro93 · 16/01/2025 21:51

I love doing jigsaws, crosswords and going to bingo.

I like having a tea and a biscuit watching Eastenders.

I like a good murder mystery novel.

I collect mugs.

I cosy up with a blanket and hot water bottle.

I’m early 30s.

Sounds ideal!

whaddayawannado · 16/01/2025 19:32

@TaylorGuitar I'm with you on the proper G&T - it's got to be Gordon's. All these new ones just aren't proper gin.

Tanqueray here

recklessgran · 16/01/2025 21:55

@Nomorecountingbeans I actually buy it from a gift shop in the village where I live but Woods of Windsor and Bronnley are the main brands - you can buy it on Amazon, e-bay etc or cheaper here;

Plantymcplantface · 16/01/2025 21:55

I am 48 and really like

Hot water bottles and heated car seats
Fluffy lined tights for warmth and giant scarves
Jigsaws especially if steam trains
A nice cup of tea, better still a warmed pot
Radox
Pirot and a good murder mystery
Market towns with nice cafes

I also like loud House and Rock music, chunky boots with chains, swimming in very cold lakes and swearing.

DownwardDuck · 16/01/2025 21:57

I love watching Vera and similar.
I was gutted to see someone on MNet call it twaddle.

Whattheduck · 16/01/2025 21:59

Just got into bed my electric blankets been on since 6.30 pm
Love getting new slippers for Christmas
Wordsearch and Crosswords
Jigsaws
Saw an advert for ‘Chums’ catalogue on the tv and thought some of the slacks looked comfortable especially with an elastic waist (I hate trousers / jeans with zips / buttons )
An afternoon nap in front of the tv usually whilst murder she wrote is on
My recliner sofa
Going out for lunch rather than dinner
Browsing the charity shops for books kitchenware or clothes especially cardigans as I wear them to work

Hopper123 · 16/01/2025 22:02

I second the elasticated waist bands and a proper cardigan. I also need the seats to have padding wherever we go ifninsitnon a hard surface my hip and pelvis 'go' and that's me done for the day I can't physically complete whatever adventure we may be on....I'm 40!!! 😂

GellerYeller · 16/01/2025 22:02

I get disproportionately excited about ‘old lady biscuits’. The kind my gran would have served: Nice, shortbread, coconut rings, ginger fingers, fig rolls.
Boiled sweets, especially blackcurrant and liquorice, humbugs, butter mints from M and S and cherry drops.
I miss those floral cachous(?) from the chemist. And their liquorice sticks.
Aspirin.
My kids have recently bought Lady Di style blue liner and mascara, for the PP that mentioned it upthread. Must be having a comeback?

Mindedmy · 16/01/2025 22:03

Big knickers that go above my belly button

Mindedmy · 16/01/2025 22:04

A tea maid alarm clock

Topsyturvy78 · 16/01/2025 22:06

Is it old lady ISH if you like a cuppa tea when you get home or just a British thing?🤣🤣🤣
