Such a nasty sordid case, and it now seems like his ex-wife is being implicated? He painted himself as an ally and a feminist. Sick of this fucking rhetoric with men. Are there no decent men anywhere?

Anyone with any doubts should listen here

Has anything ever come out about Salman Rushdie? I did think that he did well out of the fatwa......

WTAF? He lived in hiding, his translators were murdered, he was constantly under threat of death and recently he was almost murdered and lost an eye.

He's an arrogant git with a terrible reputation but he's an incredible writer and he certainly didn't "do well out of the fatwa."

Marina Hyde's piece on Gaiman was such a refreshing read. She pulled no punches.

I cannot remember where I read it but Rushdie's clique which included Martin Amis and Bruce Chatwin womanised together and it was very much a man's world then. I am sure there were excesses and abuse. That said, it is extremely crass to say of a man who lost an eye to a terror attack, that he had done well out of the fatwa.

@TooBigForMyBoots I meant their weird and damaging tastes sexually.

guinnessguzzler · 18/01/2025 12:26

Thanks for sharing the Kathleen Stock piece. Some great quotes in there, eg: 'Sensible readers had already guessed the ending: that the overindulged manbaby in black, with his wild gothic imagination and propensity to hitch himself to splashy feminist causes, would turn out to be a priapic creep.' Absolute gold.

Who is glinner?

A man on social media who is obsessively anti trans. He is sort of famous as wrote Father Ted & the IT crowd amongst other things. In my opinion he is the lowest of the low after he doxed a close friend and tried to wreck her life with no thought to what he might end up doing to her teenage daughter's. His wife left him over his obsession and his children have cut contact with him.

He was as a child, but left many many years ago.

His former wife, the mother of his adult children, was a committed Scientologist and gave thrm
LOTS of money.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2025 22:27

Who is glinner?

Comedy writer Graham Linehan. Responsible for some classic sitcoms such as Father Ted, IT Crowd and Black Books.

Graham Linehan. His book Tough Crowd is a much better guide to this subject than the diatribe by teaandbiscuits. And a good read on tv comedy in general.

He shows up rabid TRA’s and trans ideology for the dangerous, gaslighting and harmful movement towards women (mainly) that it is. He’s great. Love Glinner.

He set out to ruin a woman's life, with NO regard for her family, or her. She's not in the public eye at all. He took against a photo of her that was shadowed and looked like it was beard.

I never trust a man who is so keen on telling the world how much he supports women and is a ardent feminist.

I agree. It’s a huge red flag.

That’s interesting - why do you think that?

I know someone who has always been very pro-feminist, and for some reason it makes me uncomfortable but I’m not sure why. I have a gut feeling about him.

His children haven't, that's not true.
The way he's stood up for women and kids is amazing, and he never gave up.
He'll be missed.

The men who feel the need to make a big deal about being feminists are at best looking for a pat on the back for not being an arsehole and making it all about them. More commonly I’ve seen it from slick men who think that advertising their progressive credentials somehow protects them from accusations of being a sleazy creep with no respect for women. It’s almost the liberal equivalent of being ‘a pillar of the community.’

The best way I can describe it is this. They’re the kind of man that, if you offered them your sofa for the night because you’d been out drinking as part of a group and they’d lost their keys, you’d wake up at 3am with them standing naked in your room watching you. And when you freaked out they’d apologise and laugh and say they were just looking for the bathroom and got the wrong door and they always sleep naked and it never occurred to them that you would be bothered by it. And you’d let it go but you’d wonder why you weren’t covered by the duvet when you very rarely throw it off in your sleep but by then they’d have turned it into an anecdote with your friends about how they managed to accidentally flash you and shock you awake and you don’t have anything more than a gut feeling. I know that’s a long and very detailed scenario but that’s exactly the vibe I get from those men.

So you think it's normal behaviour that, because a woman who won an award for her work with women in STEM has her photograph published on the internet, and he decides she's unattractive, he can try and rip her life apart? Someone with teenage daughters at high school? It was deplorable and I cannot see him other than a vicious man trying to destroy a woman over her looks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 01:31

Spot on @Birdscratch

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 01:35

Was this an actual woman, or a male @justteanbiscuits? Just to clarify. Can you link to the tweet so we can make our own minds up?

Also, this thread is about Gaiman, an alleged rapist. Not people being mean on the internet, wrong though it may indeed be.

No, because I would like to protect my friend.

And she gave birth to her daughters. So yes, she was born female. And is FAR from unattractive. Glinner just decided from one badly shadowed photo that she deserved his take on what it means to be a woman. She'd never conversed with him, and was on holiday not checking social media when it kicked off. It was awful.

My view on it is that thru are cloaking themselves. Dressing up as "not like other men". I'm lovely. You're safe with me...till you're not.
I had an encounter one with the self same game plan.
Yes.
Much feminist till everyone was looking the other way and if course I knew in my heart and soul no one would believe me. It would be more likely I was the liar given his "cool guy" front. You couldn't find a bigger wolf in sheep's clothing.

They also operate in a similar method to "soft boys". All harmless dreamy cuddly balls of delight. Then you spend a bit of time with them and the real them seeps out from the sides and the reality is, they're equally as aggressive towards women but it's just taken a bit longer to see it.

Jellycats4life · 21/01/2025 14:32

What bugs me about loud male “feminists” is… feminism isn’t for them. Feminism is a female space. So it smacks of not wanting women to have anything for themselves, and encroaching on something that doesn’t include them or require them.

Also, any man who wants headpats and adulation for believing that women are people too is a walking red flag.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/01/2025 15:04

Agree @Jellycats4life - I've never met a self proclaimed "male feminist" who wasn't either a sexist or a creep.

HRTQueen · 21/01/2025 15:15

Male feminists are the same as those more obvious sleezy men who always love to tell you they just love women and love their company

they love women to be a certain way but to not question them, to not be our own selves but how they want us to be

I used to read The Graveyard Book to my year 7 form, they loved it. Thank goodness I left teaching. The man’s lowest of the low.

For Year 7 at my (girls') school, we read Alice in Wonderland & Coraline. We figured out pretty quick from the book introduction that Lewis Carroll was possibly a creep- I know the jury is out.

And now Gaiman, who I thought was lovely for writing the book for his daughters, (poor women, but worst for his young son...) is exposed as a serial rapist & child abuser. May he be locked up forever.

Year 7 English was one of my favourite times.... The whole thing feels gross now.
