If I were to pop over to your house right now, what would you offer me?

(This being MN, that's assuming you'd let me in!
Also assuming we knew each other, and not just total internet randoms😅)

Interested to see if you would use this opportunity to get rid of most of your Christmas goodies like I am doing when people have stopped by.

Here, you would be offered any of the following - 2 boxes of Fox's classics biscuits, a box of McVities Victoria biscuits, Waitrose classic panettone, a tin of Royal dansk danish butter cookies, 2 boxes Thornton classic, an After Eight Selection box, a large tray of Ferrero Rocher and a box of Guylian deluxe seashells - all unopened!

(Don't worry, a couple of these will go to work with me tomorrow to be shared with colleagues and the rest will be going to my neighbour who organises the local food bank donation boxes)

You'd also have a choice of a variety of teas and coffees, prosecco or Bucks Fizz!

How do you all still have this stuff?
Do you have no husbands or teenage boys?

Yes to both, but none of us are fans of chocolate.
You'll notice there's no sweets in that stash - there is a preference for sweets over chocolate in this house.
I don't have a sweet tooth so will always choose savoury.

Minestrone and focaccia, made this morning. Variety of tea.

Nothing sweet, well there might be some biscuits if DC haven’t seen them off (doubtful). Just ordinary biscuits though, not Christmas specials. Maybe a Christmas Eccles cake, sure there will be one of those left as DC pronounced them vile.

I don’t have a sweet tooth so I don’t keep track on what’s around, I just buy supplies 😂.

Theoldwoman · 05/01/2025 13:18

Well it’s after 9pm here and everyone is in bed, however we of course would invite you in if we knew you and you came to our door.
We would offer:
Teas, coffee or hot chocolate.
Water, juice, fizzy.
A sandwich.
Choc chip cookies
Left over dinner - veggies and chicken kiev
Rhubarb and strawberry crumble
Custard
Cheese and crackers

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/01/2025 13:18

Celeriac soup, leftover vegetable lasagna, stollen, gluten free shortbread (will still be available in August), some Michel Cluizel chocolates which are basically too classy for us, and if you want to truffle through the hampers you will find lots of chutneys, biscuits, fudge, a trotter, anchovy paste and other gifty food.

fivebyfivebuffy · 05/01/2025 13:18

I've just been food shopping so...
Toast with anything you want, pitta bread with hummus, falafel
Bacon and egg sandwich
Jacket potato with beans and cheese or tuna mayo
Beef stew or soup (both homemade)
Cheese and crackers
Chocolate chip Biscuits or chocolate peanut baked things
Milk chocolate or dark chocolate
Popcorn or pretzels
Salad with halloumi or feta

Tea, coffee, squash, fizzy drink, chai, hot chocolate, herbal tea, apple juice

And a cat that loves endless belly rubs

If I were to pop over to your house right now, what would you offer me?

Not much leftover here. Any friend turning up right now would be offered a cup of tea and a duster as we are clearing away Christmas. As a thanks for your help we could share the last of the panettone.

Of course my friends would happily join in with the cleaning up - my friends are like that 😁

ohyesido · 05/01/2025 13:21

Disaranno and coke

Mini toblerone

slightlydistrac · 05/01/2025 13:21

Dates
Christmas pudding
Mince pies
Stollen
Christmas cake
Gingerbread stars
Stilton
Some strange oaty cracker type biscuits I got in a hamper
Nuts (nutcracker provided)
Celebrations chocolates
Fancy chutney

Alternatively, if you don't fancy any of that, there's tuna and cucumber sandwiches for lunch or stay till dinner this evening for pork strips and roasted vegetables.

KingscoteStaff · 05/01/2025 13:22

If you will hold the ladder while I take the decs off the tree, I will give you…
a slice of Betty’s Christmas cake
a fresh batch of mince pies (why, DD, why? Just stop making them!!!)
a selection of delicious coffees from the Algerian coffee store on Old Compton St
a clementine
a Lindt chocolate Father Christmas.

And a seat on the comfiest sofa ever.

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/01/2025 13:22

Cheese and biscuits

YourHappyJadeEagle · 05/01/2025 13:22

Tea including regular, Earl Grey, decaf, mint, some other fruit tea crap
Coffee, real and instant.
Gluten free biscuits.
IBS has a lot to answer for.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/01/2025 13:22

I don't think there's any alcohol unless there's a few ciders in the cupboard.
So water or tea, coffee or juice. I do have quite a vast selection of herbal and chai tea if that floats your boat.
Loads of frozen party food & some frozen veggie Christmas mains.
Plenty of biscuits and chocolate.
Tortilla chips and dips. A range of crackers.
All kinds really, we're pretty well stocked on food to ride out the bad weather.

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 05/01/2025 13:23

A cuppa with oat milk, or a glass of red wine. Sadly I don't have anything in snack wise although I could offer you a bowl of the chicken and veg soup I made last night. Very peppery and full of garlic though! Or I could split the last bit of the Chicken left over in the fridge and a couple of potato waffles between us.

Yirk · 05/01/2025 13:24

A double jack Daniels if you can fix my boiler whilst you are visiting🙏

SnowFrogJelly · 05/01/2025 13:24

Sex 😂

Sasskitty · 05/01/2025 13:25

Tetleys Tea
Nespresso Coffee
Water
Orange juice
Cheese and biscuits
Wine / Whiskey / Vodka (no mixers left so would have to be straight, with ice)

ACatCalledPuss · 05/01/2025 13:25

We still have home made Christmas cake and mince pies left. Plus a range of hotel chocolat chocolate and Quality Street. However we are all sick so wouldn't let you in the door 😁

MoodEnhancer · 05/01/2025 13:25

This is MN so about half the posters would refuse to answer the door even if you were best friends from childhood, post on here about how rude you are to pop round, and then go NC.

KingscoteStaff · 05/01/2025 13:26

Have just checked the garden shed (or ‘outdoor fridge’) and you would also be treated to many beers. The 20something cousins moved from beer drinkers to wine drinkers without letting us know…

Sasskitty · 05/01/2025 13:28

Why is it specific to MN that people don’t answer the door? I don’t answer the door (unless expected visitor / post). Who knows what specimen might be at my door. Is that a being a member of MN specific characteristic? I wonder what the others are..

SadSandwich · 05/01/2025 13:28

Come on by - lovely to see you for 1hr please as I’ve things to do today. Let’s have Brie and crackers, leftover cranberry juice with soda water, Christmas pud with brandy cream and some choccies that will last 2mins once everyone else knows they’ve been finally opened.

HaveItAll90 · 05/01/2025 13:30

I'd love you to come round I'd offer you
Tea coffee festive bakewells birthday cake (early jan bday in this house) cupcake

Wine Beer Fizz all varieties, gin vodka

Staying for dinner!? Homemade carbonara this evening 😋

unsync · 05/01/2025 13:32

@DebbieTheCat You share Panettone? Another reason for not opening the door, ain't no way I'm sharing my Panettone. You can have a pickled onion, jellied fruit and a sprout though, I'm sure that'd be lovely on a piece of all butter shortbread. Washed down with gin or champagne. Both would probably do it.

Yellanip · 05/01/2025 13:32

I could offer a slice of buttered pannetone but that's about it. It's the only sweet thing we bought over Christmas. I'd make you a nice coffee or tea though, or you could have red wine, glass of port, a limoncello spritz or a glass of Cremant, or a GnT.
