If I were to pop over to your house right now, what would you offer me?

(This being MN, that's assuming you'd let me in!
Also assuming we knew each other, and not just total internet randoms😅)

Interested to see if you would use this opportunity to get rid of most of your Christmas goodies like I am doing when people have stopped by.

Here, you would be offered any of the following - 2 boxes of Fox's classics biscuits, a box of McVities Victoria biscuits, Waitrose classic panettone, a tin of Royal dansk danish butter cookies, 2 boxes Thornton classic, an After Eight Selection box, a large tray of Ferrero Rocher and a box of Guylian deluxe seashells - all unopened!

(Don't worry, a couple of these will go to work with me tomorrow to be shared with colleagues and the rest will be going to my neighbour who organises the local food bank donation boxes)

You'd also have a choice of a variety of teas and coffees, prosecco or Bucks Fizz!

No christmas left overs, fully into Jan healthy eating now.

There's a tikka masala in the slow cooker currently.
There's last night's left over lasagne. I'd offer it because I'm a nice person, but secretly hope you decline because I want it for my lunch.
Plenty of other options in the freezer if you don't fancy either of those (chilli, korma, casserole etc.) or could knock up a stir fry or salad.
Also have things like crackers, houmous, ham, cheese, croissants, bread, crumpets etc.
Plus cupboard staples for things like beans on toast, a quick pasta etc.
Various soft drinks, tea/coffee (decaf and normal), or a particularly nice winter spiced berry cordial which is good hot.

All of the above is vegan though so may have you running for the hills 😆

Pascha · 05/01/2025 12:58

We are not home so:

Half a birthday cake
Greek yoghurt
Sausages
Pain au chocolat

Because we are going home tomorrow and none of that is coming with us.

Got two packs of mince pies - they were 15p each (I don't like or eat them but they're dated 13th January so someone will eat them) I have custard in the cupboard.

Other than that we're cutting out all the crap so there isn't much in the way of treats - there is loads of fruit though and I'm currently making meatballs and sauce for dinner!

Datesandprunes · 05/01/2025 13:00

Do you mean offer as in 'have a biscuit from this huge selection' or as in 'take this box of biscuits'?

BobbyBiscuits · 05/01/2025 13:00

Gawd. I'd probably not answer the door. I'm never prepared for unexpected guests and they give me the fear! What I might do I come to the door and take you to the pub across the road. 🤣

marginallyawake · 05/01/2025 13:01

Mulled wine, tea, coffee or elderflower cordial, that’s assuming that dh hasn’t finished the bottle…Plus random fruit teas from a selection box.
Christmas pudding, After Eight mints, far too many biscuits. No chance of a mince pie, they disappear very rapidly.

Rosesgrowonyou · 05/01/2025 13:02

Various different biscuits and chocolates, mince pies, cheese straws. A Panettone which someone gave us but we don't like it so I'd insist you take it home.

Frowningprovidence · 05/01/2025 13:05

Christmas cake, fsncy biscuits, mini pies, cheeses.

PoorUncleBarry · 05/01/2025 13:05

It would be quicker to take a photograph tbh. Pringle (not bought regularly), a tub of Celebrations and Roses, an iced fruit cake, box of jelly babies, mint matchmaker, 6 tubs of sweets from the wholesalers, a gingerbread house, a giant gummy pizza, Terry's chocolate orange, dandelion and burdock cordial, 2 bottles of 0% Stella, some chorizo wrapped gouda, a pretzel chocolate bar ... there's more but I can't see from here.

Reallybadidea · 05/01/2025 13:06

Chocolate and coffee flavoured egg rolls
Baklava
Indian sweets
Chocolate figs
Chocolate chip shortbread
Stale stollen (actually DH took that out for the birds as I was typing)
Vegan mince pies

UnhealthyCopingStrategies · 05/01/2025 13:06

Coffee/hot chocolate/appletiser
Plain or chocolate digestives

Not any Christmas food left over as such - I do have lots of chocolate left, but those are not for sharing!

Hoppinggreen · 05/01/2025 13:07

How do you all still have this stuff?
Do you have no husbands or teenage boys?

NovemberMorn · 05/01/2025 13:08

Tea, Coffee (instant) shot of brandy in either to warm them up.
Wine, Prosecco, Port...which people seem to buy me even though I hardly drink it.

Biscuits, chocolates, cheese and biscuits....and they can pull a cracker with me if they like, I still have a big box over.

TheFairyCaravan · 05/01/2025 13:08

Mince pies, Christmas cake, Turkish delight, Quality Street, Celebrations. Some Italian treats that DS1 bought for DH, crisps, nuts, different sorts of drinks and a dose of the flu. Hence why we have so much left over

TuesdayNameChangeArama · 05/01/2025 13:08

Tea, coffee, Fever Tree fruit sodas.

Pretzels and I'd whip up some houmous from tinned beans/chickpeas.

I could do a cheese board.

Slice of (shop bought) Christmas cake (unopened, in date).

Edited to add: we also have a box of mince pies.

PoorUncleBarry · 05/01/2025 13:09

@Hoppinggreen we had twice as much but they are struggling and none of it is dairy free so it's out of bounds for me 😀

HundredMilesAnHour · 05/01/2025 13:09

The most amazing flat white (handcrafted by yours truly, beans freshly ground on demand etc) and, er, an apple.

Coffee is a big priority in this house. Food less so.

CrushingOnRubies · 05/01/2025 13:10

So much chocolate, mince pies, stollen, fruit which needs to sting and crisps

CrushingOnRubies · 05/01/2025 13:10

Eating

DebbieTheCat · 05/01/2025 13:10

You're all so kind and generous!
Loving all tbe offers of hearty soups and hot meals, you're my kind of host!

@Datesandprunes however you like! If you were to come to mine, I'd be hoping you'd eat your way through a box and I would be sending you home with another 😂
(None of these were bought by us, all were gifts)

I'm surprised no one has offered me their DC yet but I'll gladly cuddle the proffered lap cat.
Happy to get stuck in with the housework in exchange for a bowl of soup or a plate of roast lamb or gnocchi!

Veganuary is in full flow here and we were away over Christmas so have no backlog of festive food. I've just made chickpea 'tuna' for sandwich filling and baked potato topping, air fried savoury tofu cubes and a bean and veg stew, so there is a high chance you'd get some of that!

LouisvilleSlugger · 05/01/2025 13:12

Nothing sweet as I threw out chocs/biscuits yesterday.

Tea or coffee?

Why would you throw them out?

My DH has a job where he is given loads of boxes of biscuits and chocolates. They last us for weeks!
