Would you still be alive if you lived in the 16th century?

I would have died aged 7 from appendicitis. If not then childbirth or an infected tooth would have finished me off in my early 20's.

I'd have died in childbirth

nannyl · 30/12/2024 20:50

I have lost count of the times I would have died, and thankfully been saved by modern medicine + NHS including highly skilled Drs.

SugarandSpiceandAllThingsNaice · 30/12/2024 20:50

I would have died around 4 days old from jaundice.

Darkerdreamingdescribe · 30/12/2024 20:50

Me a gonna 2020 - sepsis.

BeeCucumber · 30/12/2024 20:50

No - I would have died giving birth.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/12/2024 20:51

I’d have gone long ago when my thyroid packed up!

Daffyducklet · 30/12/2024 20:51

I'd have died at the age of 33 from an ectopic pregnancy.

leafybrew · 30/12/2024 20:51

I would also be a goner from losing a heck of a lot of blood during a miscarriage

Iwishiwasagiraffe · 30/12/2024 20:51

I was a ventouse delivery so would possibly have died during birth but if not, then definitely in childbirth when I got sepsis and needed an emcs. I would have had no chance in the sixteenth century

twobluehorses · 30/12/2024 20:52

I was a difficult forceps delivery so probably wouldn’t have been born alive

Magpiecomplex · 30/12/2024 20:52

Nope, asthma might have carried me off, first child I might have survived, second child would definitely have done for me.

OnlyMothersInTheBuilding · 30/12/2024 20:52

I would have died during my own birth along with my mum. But if I'd survived that I'd have died in childbirth.

FionnulaTheCooler · 30/12/2024 20:52

I wouldn't have survived my own birth, I was born by emergency C Section.

Tittat50 · 30/12/2024 20:52

I'd be dead for sure. I'm kept alive by a reconfigured digestive system and artificial nutrition drinks.
I do find this subject so fascinating!
I think I might have made it to 30 then I'd be dead for sure with how things transpired.

Marylou62 · 30/12/2024 20:52

I would have died aged about 7 from tonsillitis that caused a major infection..

Topbird29 · 30/12/2024 20:53

Definitely would have died in childbirth 12 years ago - had emergency cesarean due to failure to progress. Although I was 38 at the time - so probably would have had kids earlier in 16th century and may not have had same problems. Possibly would have had an accident or died younger due to being very short sighted and not having access to glasses!!

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 30/12/2024 20:53

I barely survived being born at 32 weeks in 1980, so no.

SwallowsAmazons · 30/12/2024 20:53

I would have died of pneumonia during pregnancy.

witchycat2 · 30/12/2024 20:53

I think I would have been burned as a witch!

Comedycook · 30/12/2024 20:53

Id still be around I think...touch wood, I've had no serious injuries or illnesses. I've had two fairly easy labours.

TeabySea · 30/12/2024 20:53

I'd possibly have died at birth, as would my mother. If we'd survived my birth, then mumps, measles ,chicken pox and severe flu would likely have done for me.
If, by some miracle I'd have survived that, then I'd have died in childbirth, as would my DC.

KevinAndTracy · 30/12/2024 20:54

Yes, i probably would

I'm lucky enough to have never required surgery or any other major medical intervention

Comedycook · 30/12/2024 20:54

Actually just realised my mum had an emergency c section with me so I wouldn't have even made it that far

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/12/2024 20:54

I would have died giving birth too.

CheeseTime · 30/12/2024 20:55

Hmm. I am pretty robust and haven’t had any major medical issues. I did have an operation to correct a drooping eye and quite a lot of dental work.
Am late 50s so I think I might be a toothless one eyed old hag. 🙂
