Bought 4 tickets on the euros last night and didn't win the £33million jackpot (what a disgrace, I want a refund😂)

What's the most you, or someone you know, has ever won?

A distant relation of mine won over 1 million in the early 80s as a 20 something newlywed. She bought a nice house and lived her life mortgage free raising a family in comfort . She renovated her mother's house too, that's all I know.

A family friend won a large amount as part of a restaurant syndicate a few years ago. Around 300k each, there were about 10 of them in it. One woman was in early 60s, and I knew her kids, they never had much and she was working all hours as a waitress. She was able to give up and enjoy retirement, good on her!

All boring stories really!

Statistically I'm due a win next month. I'll keep you posted Smile

Someone's parents in my town won £5 million 20 years ago. They bought houses for themselves and their DC's, squandered the lot in the end and had to downsize. It was sad as they spent it all with good intent, paying for everything for their kids but didn't teach them anything about earning or saving so of course it all just ran out in the end.

Allmarbleslost · 28/12/2024 22:55

A colleague won 2 million a few years ago

curious79 · 28/12/2024 22:56

a client… £1mln on first ticket ever bought (out of simple curiosity). Sorted out housing issue in london. For him a life improving rather than radically changing amount

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 28/12/2024 22:58

My ex-h's brother won 3 million quid.

Dutchhouse14 · 28/12/2024 23:00

Over 15 years ago now but a mum at school won 8.9 million.
They moved away to a new area fairly soon afterwards and DC changed school.
Did cause lots of family tension as her DH wasn't keen to help their families.
That's the only big win I know of, everyone else wins the very occasional tenner.
But don't know many people who do the lottery now.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 28/12/2024 23:02

My cousin won £7m within the first year of the lottery. He bought a big house and had a car custom built. Gave a bit to his brother.

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/12/2024 23:07

Not the lottery but a colleague won £10k on the football pools in the late 1980s.

BrunchBarBandit · 28/12/2024 23:08

My friends parents won £400k (5 numbers and the bonus ball). They bought a new ford mondeo and took their family on a luxury holiday and then basically kept the same lifestyle they had previously.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 28/12/2024 23:09

Me £50 four numbers on a ticket I found!

ObieJoyful · 28/12/2024 23:12

Local lad won either 7, or 9M when the lottery was quite new. I don’t think it did him any harm. He was on the Big Breakfast once or twice, if I remember correctly.

itsallbowlsbaby · 28/12/2024 23:12

My Mum was good friends with Dave Long, the guy who won the Euromillions twice.

TotallyKerplunked · 28/12/2024 23:19

Neighbours won £85k in the early days of the lottery. They blew through the money very quickly and ended up having to sell the items/cars they bought as they'd quit working but still had bills to pay.

smooththecat · 28/12/2024 23:21

I’ve won £180 and I’m definitely in profit because I’ve hardly ever played it.

XelaM · 28/12/2024 23:23

My best friend won £50,000 a few years ago.

She spent it on amazing trips abroad.

Bloody hell, twice?! That's madness!

My DP won 12k earlier this year!! I’ve never known anyone to win anything on the lottery or… well basically anything so I could not believe it. We celebrated like it was £12m hahaaaa - then settled on upgrading the hotel we’d booked for a holiday and the rest in the house move fund.

snowsjoke · 28/12/2024 23:28

£1,275 - 25 years ago. Our car was in the garage before a European road trip so it came in handy to pay the repairs and we splashed out on nicer places to stay.

But why would you keep playing after you'd won it?! (Assuming you mean he won millions the first time.)

VivienneDelacroix · 28/12/2024 23:29

In the very early days of the lottery when I was a teenager, I had a Saturday job in a supermarket, and one weekend two of my colleagues won £70k each, completely separately. One was a 16 year old boy (age restriction was previously 16+) and the other a woman in her 50s. For a few weeks we all thought we were next.

Felimscat · 28/12/2024 23:32

I won £150 from 4 numbers.

Just need a slightly bigger win so I can quit my job.

JC03745 · 28/12/2024 23:34

Not the lottery, but my nan won a prize draw in 1990 worth about £30,000 now. Some things I recall she won:
-Various aftershaves/perfumes
-Mountain bikes
-A computer, monitor, keyboard etc
-Various bedding and towels
-Games console
-Foot spa!

I googled him, he won £1million in 2013 and then another £1million in 2015 - very cool!
