Bought 4 tickets on the euros last night and didn't win the £33million jackpot (what a disgrace, I want a refund😂)

What's the most you, or someone you know, has ever won?

I googled him, he won £1million in 2013 and then another £1million in 2015 - very cool!

Amazing!

silverbirches · 28/12/2024 23:36

I won £160 with four numbers on the lottery a couple of years ago.

There was one time I got £10 with three numbers... and the other three numbers were all one digit out. So near and yet so far.

YourGladSquid · 28/12/2024 23:36

Two people from my hometown have won the euromillions but I only know one because he’s friends with my father.

Other than that, my DP won 7k once on those pub box/key things (I’m not sure what they’re called).

Back in 2009, we won £2,106 for matching 5 numbers. It was the year we got married. Had to claim at the post office, got the cheque then walked to a different counter to pay into the wedding savings. Had it in our hands for about 20 seconds, £2k into the wedding fund and spent the £106 on treating everyone when we went out for my mums 60th the same month. She's now 75 so we must be due another win 🤣

TheFlis · 28/12/2024 23:44

A school friend won the lottery when we were about 20. He tried to keep it quiet and lied about where his money came from (claimed inheritance) so I never found out exactly how much but I think around £3m.

A distant relation of mine won over 1 million in the early 80s as a 20 something newlywed. She bought a nice house and lived her life mortgage free raising a family in comfort . She renovated her mother's house too, that's all I know.

A family friend won a large amount as part of a restaurant syndicate a few years ago. Around 300k each, there were about 10 of them in it. One woman was in early 60s, and I knew her kids, they never had much and she was working all hours as a waitress. She was able to give up and enjoy retirement, good on her!

All boring stories really!

Was that on the Premium Bonds as the lottery didn’t start until the mid 90s?

The most I’ve heard is a relative was part of a syndicate and his share was £78k. The most I’ve ever won is £30.

DaftyLass · 28/12/2024 23:46

Friends of friends won 1/4 Million, bought a new house, blew the rest in a year. Within four years they lost the house, split up and moved away.

Finallyfreenearly · 28/12/2024 23:48

My brother’s friend won £4m.

It definitely wasn’t a good thing - I don’t know the full story but friends’ and family’s reactions have had lasting negative effects.

Roselilly36 · 28/12/2024 23:57

Neighbours won £1m

Friend won just over £250,000. Bought a bigger house, new car and carried on life as normal.

BurgundyBear · 29/12/2024 00:05

£150 - whoop whoop!

Chocochick · 29/12/2024 00:07

A colleague of mine won £1 million and the next day, she gave birth to her daughter. She never came back to work and she seems to be rather enjoying her earnings since.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 29/12/2024 00:13

DH won £60 yesterday!

My uncle won £750 about 15 years ago - we were well impressed.

Angrymum22 · 29/12/2024 00:18

I won £230 on the lottery and £150 on a scratch card. I bought a top of the range food processor.

I don’t do the euromillions or lottery very often. It would be nice to win the £10k a month for life though. We are pretty comfortable and both semi retired so life is pretty good. We have decent savings and good pensions so I don’t see the need for more money. Maybe to buy property for DS who is starting out in life.

If I did win a large amount it would be nice to quietly support some local hospices and schools. I am a little cynical about charities so would give directly to projects and causes.

Blossom4538 · 29/12/2024 00:23

Won a few years ago. May not say exact amount as could possibly be outing, but it was in the tens of thousands

mmmarmalade · 29/12/2024 00:28

£99 but that was over 25 years ago. Not done it since. I don't know anyone that's won more than a tenner.

JammySlag · 29/12/2024 00:31

I worked at a cafe while I was at university. One of my coworker’s mother won about 3 million in 2002. The partner of the mother was abusive and the money enabled the whole family to up sticks and move to Australia and just disappear. I occasionally think about the family every few years and hope they’re happy.

AutoP1lot · 29/12/2024 00:32

When I was 21 a same aged friend won £250k. He was from a poor family. He purchased his mum's council house, a static caravan, a car and a share in the business he worked for. We lost touch years ago so I don't know how he's doing now but I'd imagine he bought himself some long term benefits.

MiseryIn · 29/12/2024 00:39

Friend won £25k on a scratch card about 20 years ago.

Relatively distant family member in the US won over a million. He was already minted so...

Zoflorabore · 29/12/2024 00:48

Me- £550 on Hotpicks in 2011

our next door neighbours when I lived at home won just under £2 million in 1999 just after Christmas. They tried to keep it quiet but someone blabbed to the local paper who then got her age wrong by quite a few years and she was fuming. The win caused no end of problems for their family relations wise but they set themselves up with businesses that are still doing well to this day ( I follow their son on social media still ) but they did move to arguably the poshest road in the city and they were doing pretty well for themselves before they won too!! Lots of people were very jealous locally.

CoastalCalm · 29/12/2024 00:50

My best friend won £101k the night before her wedding

Lottery didnt start until mid 1990s

Yes, lottery started in November 1994, I was 17 and won a tenner on the first draw and was thrilled 😁

Passwordsaremynemesis · 29/12/2024 01:01

My friend’s neighbour won 13 million in one of the very early draws. They were very poor and had over ten kids, they bought each child a house but kept them all in the parents names apparently. Then about ten years later my driving instructor won 5 million. I never saw him again, I heard he upped and left London straight away and took his family back to Jamaica. I’m still waiting for my third time lucky!

iggleoggle · 29/12/2024 01:13

My parents’ friends won about £3 million as they were approaching retirement in the early 2000s. Them and their 4 adult children got new houses each, they drive nicer cars and had very nice holidays until ill health stopped them travelling.
