Bought 4 tickets on the euros last night and didn't win the £33million jackpot (what a disgrace, I want a refund😂)

What's the most you, or someone you know, has ever won?

A friend won around £10k on the postcode lottery.

CharSiu · 29/12/2024 09:57

A school friends brother won 170k, was in the late 1990’s. I remember they bought a huge house outright.

A friend of mine won 25k on the postcode lottery about 7 years ago.

Danikm151 · 29/12/2024 10:00

I won £800 on a euromillions jackpot must be won draw. Should have been £30 but as the jackpot wasn’t won the rest was split between all players. I was 6 months pregnant and bought a tumble dryer and a pushchair/cot bundle.

@BonnyBugbear @Copperoliverbear I think I've my dates wrong. It was late 80s not early 80s. She is in Ireland where it started in 87 (just googled!) She was one of the first ever millionaires. I was a kid and didn't really know her just remember all the fuss.

FranticFrankie · 29/12/2024 10:43

Cousin had a big win and stopped talking to me 😂
His loss 😂

A colleague of mine won £1 million and the next day, she gave birth to her daughter. She never came back to work and she seems to be rather enjoying her earnings since.

Absolutely love that! Win the lottery then have a baby, what perfect timing!

I had a friend who used to bet on the outcome of the Irish lottery at the bookies before the National Lottery started, early 90s. Never won millions though.
We’ve had two sets of neighbours win enough to retire on(late 50s/early 60s), and another two who shared jackpots in syndicates so got £60kish.
Friends of my PILs won £2m in the 2000s. Carried on working though.

Illinoise · 29/12/2024 16:57

My auntie won £250k about 20 year ago, but enough to sort out the mortgage and pay for her kids to go to private school.

Peony15 · 29/12/2024 17:10

My late favourite uncle , father's younger brother , won 6 no's in the lottery. I only found out years and years later.
Don't think his 3 siblings , all brought up by single
war widow mother and still living close by , were given any share in the lucky turn of fortune. Might explain in hindsight why relations weren't as close as before.
My parents are comfortably off but my dad still spends £100 weekly on lottery. Mad.
Guess knowing someone actually winning the big lottery prize makes it more relateable in " it could be you " way.

Incakewetrust · 29/12/2024 17:20

In my younger days, my friend and I wanted pizza but couldn't afford it so I told her I'd win the lottery and get us a pizza.
Got a scratch card and won £30 on it and got us pizza 😂

SallyWD · 29/12/2024 17:25

I knew a young woman of 20 who won £150,000. It was 25 years ago and it was enough money for her to buy a nice house.

LeaveALittleNote · 29/12/2024 17:25

I know someone who won about 200k a decade or so ago. She was able to move into a much nicer house. She’s died now. She didn’t get many years to enjoy her improved lifestyle, which is a shame.

Changed username as will be outing if seen by anyone who knows him. My brothers friend and his immediate family - parents and sibling, did a euro millions syndicate and won just under 58 million in 2020. He's turned in to a huge arse hole. Though he has treated all his friends to multiple holidays abroad alot. Including Vegas, Thailand, Dubai. He has flown them private jet to sporting events. Takes alot of drugs and done nothing of any worth.

£58million is a crazy amount of money!! I think a lot of people who wins amounts that big often do go down the drugs and drink route, because how else do you spend that amount?!

I'd buy loads of property and invest in business' 😅

I won 11 grand 24 years ago

BlackChunkyBoots · 29/12/2024 19:30

In the 1960s the parents of my mum's friend won the pools, a million I think. They could afford a massive house close to the town centre, at the posh end. 🤑👍🏻

I think my parents won big on the Premium Bonds but they won't tell me how much. They go on holiday, A LOT.

I won a £50 voucher from Mn for filling out a survey once, and £250 on the lotto.

in the '90s, a great-uncle died. A building society book was found and 3 of us were delegated to visit the local branch to check whether there was enough money to bury Uncle.

The manager leafed through the book and asked us to wait while he phoned Head Office.

"Yes...just as I thought. Regular payments have gone out of this account..."

["Oh, there's nothing left, then..."]

"He had another account in Edinburgh at our main branch. There's over £200,000 in it."

Apparently, Uncle once asked my mum whether she had any premium bonds. We reckon he'd had a win.

Allnewtometoo · 29/12/2024 19:49

9 million. A woman who worked in the local woolworths.

Goforyourguns · 29/12/2024 19:51

Aunt won over 2 million canadian dollars and cousin won 3 million australian dollers.Mum won 10 thousand at the bingo.😁

Willyoushutthefrontdoor · 29/12/2024 19:53

A neighbour about 10 streets away won the postcode lottery. A man in my husbands street (before we met) won a few hundred thousand about 20 years ago and moved away to a posher estate. A local lady also won a couple of million. We've had 5 numbers twice...In 5 weeks. Won 1100 quid both times about 30 years ago lol

MadMaxHasSandInHisCrack · 29/12/2024 19:55

You don't won much nowadays. Friend won less than 2k from 5 matched numbers

OhMehGoddess · 29/12/2024 19:58

Someone local won over 13mil a few years ago and a guy at DH's work over 2mil.

AnneElliott · 29/12/2024 20:00

Some colleagues at the Gov Dept I work at won the top prize but as they were in a syndicate I think they got £60k each I believe.

Lonelycrab · 29/12/2024 20:01

I got 2 numbers and two stars on the euro millions. Got £8.60 😑

Just another 3 numbers and I’d have had the jackpot, I told myself

I did get a tenner way back in whenever it was the lottery started, first day (1992?) so that’s my biggest win. Thought it was easy from there…
