Bought 4 tickets on the euros last night and didn't win the £33million jackpot (what a disgrace, I want a refund😂)

What's the most you, or someone you know, has ever won?

I remember at junior school (1990s), the parents of a girl in my class won a decent 6 figure amount on the lottery. They were a really very visibly poor family, they lived in a council house and had free school meals, grubby clothes etc.
They spent it all within a couple of months of course, including big holidays to Jamaica amongst others.
I can still remember the mums at the school gates discussing it so judgementally, obviously believing that the family should have been able to drag themselves out of poverty with their winnings instead of wasting it so ostentatiously.
I guess theoretically, they probably could have made their lives easier longer term, they could have bought a really decent house, made some investments, but realistically, when you have never had money to spend, who can blame them.

I won £50 on set for life once. It was a lovely surprise but I couldn’t help wishing there were a few more 000’s on the end!

My sisters MIL won 2 million. Shared 1 million between her 3 kids. Sister gave nothing to anyone.
She still a miserable cow despite her windfall

Wasn’t it your sisters partner that got the money? Hardly your sisters to dole out to others, unless I’ve read it wrongly.

PIL's friend won £4 million a few years ago. They bought a lovely house and are still very down to earth. I bumped into him recently and he shook my hand, I'm still hoping he rubbed some luck onto me 😄

My late favourite uncle , father's younger brother , won 6 no's in the lottery. I only found out years and years later.
Don't think his 3 siblings , all brought up by single
war widow mother and still living close by , were given any share in the lucky turn of fortune. Might explain in hindsight why relations weren't as close as before.
My parents are comfortably off but my dad still spends £100 weekly on lottery. Mad.
Guess knowing someone actually winning the big lottery prize makes it more relateable in " it could be you " way.

That is madness. It's £5,200 a year.

Can you persuade him to put it into Premium Bonds instead?

@BonnyBugbear that’s when the lottery started in the UK. There are many other lotteries / mn posters from all around the world

I won a few million a couple of years ago ...spent it on booze, gambling and wild parties ...the rest I just wasted 🤣🤣🤣

When I was young I worked in my uncle’s shop (which was bought years before when his mum & dad won the pools!) a customer won £5 million.

When he was picking his number he asked me to pick two numbers randomly. He came back in after he won and brought my uncle a bottle of champagne and me £500, which was huge as I was still at school. Very kindly he asked my uncle to let him know when I was turning 21 and when I did he made a big show of giving me another £500, but very quietly gave me a new savings account (Isa’s were quite new then) with 5k in and told me if I was sensible it would grow and build. Which it did :)
We kept in touch over the years - his birthday, mine and Christmas - and he left me £2114 when he died a few years ago. Which some people would think was nothing given he was very very wealthy (he was very clever with his win), but I was very touched as 21 and 14 were the numbers I picked.

Zoomo · 25/03/2026 20:38

@JustAnotherWhingerwhat a great story. He sounds like a nice chap. And well done you for picking the winning numbers!

TheHouse · 25/03/2026 20:44

I haven’t won the lottery or anything in my life BUT I did win a game of bingo at a holiday park in haven this year.

First ever game of bingo in my life and was very reluctant to spend 20 quid on the book. Well, it was a full house and I won a cheeky 4k 🙌.

XenoBitch · 25/03/2026 20:47

A lady who worked in the local shop near my parents won £250k on the lottery.

I also used to work with someone who won £100k (or thereabouts) on Premium bonds, and a few years later he won a substantial amount (also a couple of hundred K) on the lottery. Some people are just lucky. Still worked though, and lived in his high rise council flat. He was the first person I knew to get a flatscreen TV 😅

FrothyCothy · 25/03/2026 21:00

I just want 120k. Is that too much to ask?!

My Mum was good friends with Dave Long, the guy who won the Euromillions twice.

Was that the guy from the Mallard?

CleanSkin · 25/03/2026 23:30

Acquaintances won £250k on PCL a couple of years ago. Enabled them to buy their family home instead of renting, plus they got a new car. Life transforming.

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 26/03/2026 21:25

Around £27 for three numbers several years ago. I thought I’d get more for that so have rarely done it since.

DamnBuster · 26/03/2026 21:36

Ive never known anyone win the lottery, apart from a lucky dip here or there.

caringcarer · 26/03/2026 21:50

My sisters bil won £58k about 2-3 months ago. He wishes he didn't his wife died of a heart attack 3 days later, thought to be brought on by excitement.

caringcarer · 26/03/2026 21:51

It was on postcode lottery.

This is so sad. I’m so sorry.

joyava · 26/03/2026 23:31

The most I’ve won is 2k on euromillions.
A friend’s sister won the Irish lottery as part of a syndicate about 30 years ago. There were so many members they each got a little over 1k.
I also know a lady whose sister & BIL won euromillions (10 million minimum). It was definitely shared among the family as the lady I know cleared her mortgage, renovated her home, goes on once in a lifetime holidays every year, and new cars for her & her DH every 2 years too.

TheKittenswithMittens · 27/03/2026 00:04

I got 4 numbers once and got 45 quid. My Mum got 5 numbers once and got 3k.

KitTea3 · 27/03/2026 00:07

I didn't know him personally but a shop owner of the local shop I called in at one the way to school did win 1/4 of a million...though actually I think that was on who wants to be a millionaire 😱 he quite obviously sold the shop 🤣

WearyAuldWumman · 27/03/2026 01:15

My dad's pal won the football pools many years ago. Enough to buy a nice new house, a wee shop for his wife and a good holiday every year.

Snugglemonkey · 27/03/2026 01:30

£1000000
