What's the first thing you'd buy if you won the lottery?

Say about £7mil?

My first purchase of luxury, that I would be able to do immediately, would be some gorgeous Chanel sunglasses. .

Then a parajumpers coat.

Then new teeth.

Then the farm house etc.

It's my favourite maladaptive daydream.

Probably a holiday.

I might even move to the Caribbean.

After that a house each for the DCs.

I would like to buy a plot of land and employ an architect to build my dream house.

Moier · 22/12/2024 22:44

I didn't win the lotto but l got a few million payout.. first thing l bought was a 3 bed bungalow in the best area of my city ( round corner from Jane Mcdonald).. then an house each for my two daughters..also a villa in The canaries...we all went to the bank together along with a financial adviser and put some money into trusts etc for Grandsons.. l paid private for all our health issues we needed sorting..
Now money is just there with no worries. Mostly spent on helping/ improving my disabilities ..
Still give to charities etc.

Pay off the mortgage.
Put the house on the market
Buy a house for just me and my kids
Hire a cleaner and some extra house help

PattyDuckface · 22/12/2024 22:45

Huge house

DoYouAlwaysHaveToSayThat · 22/12/2024 22:47

A different house.

After that -

Lovely teeth
A holiday
Money to the adult children
Trust funds for the grandchildren

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 22/12/2024 22:48

Flights to New York (I’ve wanted to go since I first saw home alone 2) , California and Florida, then a house, some driving lessons and all the Harry Potter lego I can muster 😂

bluesatin · 22/12/2024 22:48

Buy a trip into space. I always wanted to be an astronaut.

stayathomer · 22/12/2024 22:52

I’d drop a sizeable sum over to my sister and in laws, get a plumber in to fix our crappy crappy plumbing, a carpenter in for new skirting boards, a cleaner in to do a new move type clean, go ti a hairdresser and then to a spa, as you said op teeth- I’d tell the dentist to just work away (I have gaps), change our en suite

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/12/2024 22:54

I'd pay off the mortgage first and then have the house completely renovated as I'd be happy to stay here.

Buy a new car.

A summer house for my son's hobby.

Pay off my daughter's student loan and buy her a flat or house so no more renting.

Book an amazing holiday for me and the children.

I'd make sure my friends and family were assisted financially. Two close friends would have their mortgages paid off.

There are probably lots of other things but that list would be my priority.

Anabellie · 22/12/2024 22:54

All the sweets in the sweet shop and a supermarket sweep of Marks and Spencer and Waitrose, filling my trolley with anything that takes my fancy and not worrying about the cost :-)

ObieJoyful · 22/12/2024 22:54

I’d book the operation on my knee that I can’t get on the NHS.

GellerYeller · 22/12/2024 22:55

I would suddenly be ‘running my own business from home’, to disguise the truth.
I can’t imagine being in a position to be frivolous, but I’d like security and to help the people I love.

KohlaParasaurus · 22/12/2024 22:56

First thing? Flights to Spain for DH and me, and we're not coming back until after the spring solstice, by which time we'll have decided how to deal with the rest of the money.

catphone · 22/12/2024 22:57

It’d probably go on all sorts of stuff from Amazon if I’m honest

Goldenphoenix · 22/12/2024 23:00

I would quit my job as the absolute first order of business. I would love a few months peace just to potter around, bake cakes and do some gardening. Then I would decide what to do with the rest!

Like a PP I would also love a big shop of all the delicious food in M&S, hang the cost.

DustyMaiden · 22/12/2024 23:03

Only thing I can think of, I’d like an indoor pool.

bridesmaid1024 · 22/12/2024 23:06

A house for me & the kids ... then 2 flats to rent out to give to the kids when old enough
A housekeeper - I hate cleaning & struggle to keep the house tidy
New car

RampantIvy · 22/12/2024 23:08

Have the back of the house redesigned to make a bigger kitchen
New doors and windows
Have the entire house redecorated
New carpets
New furniture
Pay off DD's student loan

TubeScreamer · 22/12/2024 23:09

A new car. 3 of us share 2 cars and sometimes it limits what we can do.

ManchesterLu · 22/12/2024 23:09

A house that's big enough to swing a cat, if I should decide to swing one.

A cleaner to clean the house.

Lots of party food so I could invite friends and family round to celebrate. Or scrap that - I'll get caterers, I'm a millionaire!

Wigtopia · 22/12/2024 23:13
  • Pay off the mortgage (not that much left, but would be a huge weight off our minds)
  • pay off sibling’s mortgage
  • buy a massive antler for the dog
  • take a one year sabbatical from work to spend time improving on my hobbies
  • possibly sign up to do a course I’ve been eyeing up for a while

I’d like to think that with the mortgage paid off, we could both work part time until retirement as there isn’t any major extravagant things id like to get, just a slower calmer and more enjoyable pace of life would be perfect 👌

NunyaBeeswax · 22/12/2024 23:15

Land.
And build a small house in the centre.

No neighbours.. no traffic..

CharlotteStreetW1 · 22/12/2024 23:26
  1. The perfectly symmetrical double fronted house down the road which has off-street parking (mine doesn't). That way we could stay in our lovely friendly road and have the prettiest house on the street.
  1. The business where my husband works so he and his equally stressed boss (who's desperate to sell) can both retire. Only the two of them work there so I'd just close it down.
  1. A holiday home on Paros, knowing I could afford private jets to get there regularly (we live conveniently close to Biggin Hill).
  1. A case of Laurent-Perrier pink champagne.

Actually No. 4 would probably be No. 1.

(Appears they're all No. 1 🙄)

SexAndCakes · 22/12/2024 23:45

£7M would go a long way.

I would put the heating up, pay off my current mortgage, then convert my flat to a rental and buy a house outright to live in. Buy a better car. Invest for income and leave my job to do lovely creative things and study for pleasure while I work out what else I would like to do.

That would still leave me plenty to pay off my siblings' mortgages, create trust funds for nephew and niece, and buy some treats for various people.

SanaJardin · 22/12/2024 23:51

Gift flats to tenants.
Invest for DC.
Get gray roots dyed properly.
Fly to see DM.
Pay off sibling mortgage.
Contribute to school bursary fund.
Hire a cleaner who tidies and pay them top whack.
Find a solution to coats/shoes/sports gear clutter.
