Do you do housework on Christmas Day?

Prepared to accept that I’m a weirdo, but I’ll definitely do a washing (and hang it up to dry) and hoover. Once the day is done and the kid’s in bed, I’ll maybe do the ironing if there’s any sitting.

Am I a lunatic for doing housework that day? Do you do any?

Yeah, you're the weirdo.

ThatBastardElf · 20/12/2024 22:02

No fricking way!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/12/2024 22:03

Absolutely not except washing up

Reallycantworkitout · 20/12/2024 22:03

Bare minimum, other than clearing up after dinner, loading dishwasher and turning on the robot hoover after dinner. While I'm sitting down with wine

museumum · 20/12/2024 22:04

No way!
but hoovering and laundry are not daily tasks in our house. We hoover once a week and do laundry on maybe two days a week depending on the weather for hanging out.

teatoast8 · 20/12/2024 22:04

None

JennyWren83 · 20/12/2024 22:05

Ironing? On Christmas Day?
Haven't you got anything better to do? Genuinely.

TwinkleLights24 · 20/12/2024 22:06

I’ll be doing a deep clean this weekend so I’ll only need to make the beds, wipe around the bathroom and kitchen as we use it and make sure any dishes are done and rubbish is all tidied.

Fireworknight · 20/12/2024 22:06

No, it’s a day off! Apart from cooking and clearing up from meals.

Hskatkat · 20/12/2024 22:06

AppleKatie · 20/12/2024 22:01

Why would you need to clean an upstairs bathroom? Perhaps you could get busy having fun?

I'm guessing that's a question to me?
Because they get cleaned every other day. Is that ok with you?

Brightredtulips · 20/12/2024 22:07

No! Just the obvious stuff like the dishes. Don't do this, you'll pass this habit onto your kids

As I mentioned, I’d consider doing that when my kid is in bed that night. I can easily do it while watching something on TV or whatever, so it’s no hassle at all.

Obviously, the kitchen is kept immaculate, dishes are done and the table cleared/sitting room kept/left tidy. But no housework will be done, but I don't do housework anyway. Smile

That’s an interesting point. Hmm, maybe you’re right.

Slightly different here as we are having Xmas day on Boxing Day here but my DD will probably spend a good hour sorting her room. She really loves a good potter finding a new home for all her new things etc. We love a super chill Xmas! I will do tidying and cleaning up after myself only from lunch time on Xmas eve until probs 27th

FunnysInLaJardin · 20/12/2024 22:09

no I wouldn't apart from clean the kitchen after food. Why would you?

Teebles007 · 20/12/2024 22:09

Food prep, clearing away after meals and tidying away gift wrappings.
That's it.
Ditto Boxing Day.
Christmas is for spending time with family, not making them feel uncomfortable by doing housework around them.

Scutterbug · 20/12/2024 22:10

Will tidy up after the meal and put the dishwasher on, keep on top of mess in the living room. But no to laundry.

lurchermummy · 20/12/2024 22:10

I'll tidy up the mess of the day but ironing on Christmas Day - is t that a bit...sad?

Mymanyellow · 20/12/2024 22:12

Make the bed. Wash up make sure kitchen is tidy ready to mess it up again Boxing Day.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 20/12/2024 22:12

The dishwasher gets loaded and unloaded, kitchen wipes down after cooking, rubbish gets taken out, robot hoover does his bit after we go to bed. Nothing more.

BondStreet · 20/12/2024 22:13

I’ll tidy up, put the recycling out, break down the boxes, clean down the kitchen and run the hoover around.

mynameiscalypso · 20/12/2024 22:13

You can make life a lot more enjoyable if you just don't iron at all.

Owly11 · 20/12/2024 22:13

Definitely no washing and ironing - why would you not just get it all done before Christmas? I personally wouldn't do any housework at all but I suppose if people make a mess and you want to whizz the hoover round, why not.

AlexaSetATimer · 20/12/2024 22:14

Fuck no! How sad is that.

Clear up after food (DH cooks the dinner) and run the dishwasher. That's it.

It's Christmas! Time to chill, watch tv, eat chocolate and spend time with loved ones.
