Just seen on the news a baby is in hospital after being bitten by an xl bully. And two people have been arrested. Baby is in a serious condition. Why haven't these killer dogs been banned.

An eight-month-old girl is in a serious condition after being attacked by a dog and airlifted to hospital.

The animal has been seized and destroyed and is believed to be a registered XL bully type.

So a "legit" one. Of which there are 40,000. Surely not that many?!? 😮

Sky news here

UtterlyOtterly · 12/12/2024 14:33

They won't be banned because they are such ickle darling fur babies. It's the owner, not the breed. They won't hurt a fly, the inbreeding is irrelevant......

And other such nonsense. Poor baby, I hope she or he is ok.

Viviennemary · 12/12/2024 14:42

So registering the dog didn't save that baby from being attacked and seriously injured. Complete ban is called for.

The baby and the dog were 'peas in a pod' according to a family member who spoke to BBC. Whatever the fuck that means.

It means these folk aren't fit to be in charge of a baby or a dog. This has really made me angry.

Probably be in a rough area, dog bought from somewhere dodgy, parents clueless .
Always is
I hope the baby is Ok

They looked indentical?
I really hope not

I think it's about time that families who allow their children to be with dangerous animals were prosecuted.

caramac04 · 12/12/2024 14:50

XL’s are just too unpredictable and cause terrible injuries or death on a regular basis.
I met a young mum last week with 2 primary aged children and 1 child in a pushchair.
She told me that they have an XL bully and people cross the street to avoid them. Well I would too as I’d be concerned it might attack and kill my big German Shepherd.
I can’t stop intermittently thinking about 3 young children living with an XL male Bully and worrying what could happen. I don’t suffer with anxiety and am a committed dog lover but I don’t think these dogs should be around children. As has often been said, they are big softies and gentle. Until they’re not and then they are killers. I doubt I could fend one off but innocent children stand no chance.

Bagpuss2022 · 12/12/2024 14:51

I have seen a photo of the beautiful little baby I hope they pull through, also a registered one so angry that poor baby and reckless parents I presume are the two arrested

Bagpuss2022 · 12/12/2024 14:52

and to add my sis has one of these dogs (we are no contact) she has 3 primary school children. It’s her partner he’s a bully and has full control over her. so I guess she doesn’t have a say in this new dog.

Tracystubbs · 12/12/2024 14:59

God,these things scare the hell out of me-I'm a massive dog lover but not this breed

Their eyes have no soul to them-anyone who puts one in the same house as a child needs ss to step in and take the child

Someone I know said that if this breed was human, they'd be a psychopath-i fully agree

I know someone with 3 dc under ten-she also has 3 of these dogs

'Wouldn't hurt a fly','lovely dogs' and 'the laws are a joke' (she's not wrong but not in the way she means)

She leaves them to 'babysit' while she fucks off to the loo and cook dinner

She also thinks we are all over reacting when she takes them for a walk without a muzzle and parents are over cautious when they refuse to walk in the local park with their young kids as its full of these dogs and their braindead owners

It's only a matter of time before she's in the papers herself, sobbing about her 'much loved xl dog,who loves her kids, killed one' (or more)

If you want to own one by yourself,go ahead (some people dont want to be in the gene pool) but dont drag one into living with young children

Startinganew32 · 12/12/2024 15:13

I love animals but every single one of these animals should be humanely euthanised. It’s sickening that they are allowed to exist.

No don’t go ahead because you would be likely to know and interact with children at some point plus would be taking it for walks in parks and the like.

Perfectlystill · 12/12/2024 15:25

I absolutely adore dogs and have two of my own but I cannot abide these monsters. I think they should all be put down and no more allowed.

Revolting animals. And their humans are always rough as well.

biscuitsandbooks · 12/12/2024 15:30

I work with dogs and XL Bullies scare the shit out of me. I won't walk them even though I'm technically insured to do so. I know a lot of people who walk them and care for them though - God knows why.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 12/12/2024 15:32

We've effectively been uninvited from Christmas because a massive rehomed dog is staying at ILs. Much as my eyebrows are raised, I'm relieved I don't have to fend off pressure about bringing my one year old anywhere near something that could easily eat him.

@Bagpuss2022 if they've got the dog since the ban came in that's illegal so you could report them

The baby and the dog were 'peas in a pod' according to a family member who spoke to BBC. Whatever the fuck that means.

It means they left the dog and baby together unsupervised and allowed the baby to crawl over and get up in the dogs space.
Not an excuse for the dog, just a judgement on parents who let their kids treat animals like toys and then are surprised when a bite happens.

BreatheAndFocus · 12/12/2024 15:37

Poor baby - very upsetting 😢 These dogs should be banned, along with Canó Corsos and all the other suspects. There should be a list of approved pet breeds.

The saying “XL Bully, teeny weeny willy” always springs to mind. Why the AF can’t they buy a nice, normal dog?

SingingSands · 12/12/2024 15:42

This is so tragic and so sadly preventable.

My parents took on a large breed puppy when my mum was pregnant with me. The pup was about six months when I was born. Despite being a good family breed (red setter) my mum told me that she never, ever, left me alone with the dog. She took me upstairs if she needed the loo. If we were downstairs together we were separated by a baby gate. I remember her telling me this as a teenager and I scoffed, thinking she was silly. "Dogs are still animals" she said "no matter how you treat them, they are still animals and they can turn on you in a split second. You must never trust them 100%". I always think of her words when I read these tragic stories. Dogs are not "fur babies" they are beasts.

If you know she's walking them without muzzles fucking report the twat. If someone, especially a child was attacked and you knew she did this then I hope you can live with that. Not being horrible but I've watched a man killed by one so I've seen the damage they do

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 12/12/2024 15:46

Unfortunately, there is a particular type of person who gets a particular type of dog. With XL Bullies it's the 'hard man' with less brain cells than the average panda.

Tbh, I think if you choose to have a banned breed then your children should immediately go into the care system. If your moral compass is so screwed you'd put your penis extension over a child, then you're not fit to be a parent.

JetskiSkyJumper · 12/12/2024 15:47

A 76 yo woman and 18yo man arrested so the dog might not actually belong to the parents.
